Can you give us an idea of the length of each of the songs relative to Violet hill and Viva La Vida? which is the longest song? which is the shortest etc...

And also if the double songs are two full songs or just one song divided in 2 (i.e. 2 3-4min songs or one 4min song divided in 2)

Thanks a lot, it sounds great!

Did you overhear anyone else talking about it? Could you garner a reaction?

Good call on the 7 rum and cokes btw :P

A good bunch of people seemed surprised that is what the new record sounded like. There seemed to be some impressed faces.

^just a guess, LIT shortest, 42 longest

Length of songs all seemed around that 3-4 range. It was pretty hard to gather just how long as I was so distracted by the melodies and the music itself.

Life in technicolour is the shortest, The Escapist wasn't that long either.

42, may have been the longest but not by much. Songs like Cemetaries, and Strawberry Swing were close in length for the longer songs. Everything else felt about as long as Vva and Violet. The album was about 45 minutes long; give or take.

I think the remarks of 42 being coldplay's opus are exaggerated. The talk of it being 3 songs turned into 1 didn't seem right to me during the listen. It more so felt like One song with a medium level part into a giant epic part into a calmer part.

The best news anyone will hear though is the Songs that are two song or have a hidden track are just that; more than one song for some reason in the same track. Not like those Green Day songs that had 4 or 5 parts. More like how Til Kingdom Come was a "hidden track"

No song felt too long or too short. They are perfect in length you will not get sick of it half way through or decided it was too short and should have been longer.

Man, that is awesome.

Thanks a heap for sharing, everybodystilllovesandrew! Great review; they truly are better from a fan. :)

I was wondering if you could comment on Chris' singing in a lower register? -- and I can't for the life of me remember which track it was supposed to be on... :embarassed:

Is it as 'orgasmic', lol, as previously described? :)

Thanks for sticking around and answering our questions!

No worries. I'm always on when I have time actually. Have been since the mania before X&Y when the original Talk was floating around.

It's Chinese Sleep Chant. That was one of the things I was looking out for I'll admit. It's sounds amazing it's very very low and kind of muffled actually. It worked out perfectly. Added another element to the song it self; almost as if his voice was an instrument that formed words.

Andrew, what is the name of this song? It says Lovers In Japan but apparently it's not. Can you shed some light if you remember?

Pay no attention to what some have been saying then. That is Lovers In Japan.

Wow! I thought my Coldplay karma was good...I've NEVER paid for a ticket (including my front-row centre T.O. seats), and only once paid for a CD (X&Y). But you take the cake. Congrats and keep the karma going strong.:D

Good things happen to good coldplay people I guess :)

Sounds like we both have had that good coldplay karma going.

Well, let's see. I've sen them 6 times (3 at the ACC, 2 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, 1 at the Cor4ell Centre in Ottawa, and 1 in Boston) without paying...I won three pair of tix and got the others from a friend of a friend (I couldn't get the Koolhause tix though, and it was an amazing show!!), and I got Parachutes from the label and AROBTTH from a local radio station, so I'm pretty happy with my Coldplay karma.:) OK, bragging over, lol. How did you get into the listening session?

Ooh thanks for the review! Good stuff to hear. Relieving and exciting. :D

That so awesome! I can't say I've had as much luck with free shows. Only one of mine was free.

Molson Amphitheater, ACC 3 Times, Koolhaus , and Edge 102 Acoustic session. Soon ACC for the 4th time once they go on sale next month. The Koolhaus day was my favourite in line at 9 am doors were 8 pm haha. Chris and Jonny came and said hello to those of us around noon. Right up front come show time. That were my picture is from took that one and a few more that night.

The full story is my friend who I work with has a sister who works for Virgin mobile (who I'm at least a very good acquaintance with) and was saying how she was invited to the listening party but was going to skip it when she dropped in to say hey at our mall. So my impulsive thought was "how the hell can I get in insted of her?" After about 10 minutes of trying to figure this out she called her boss and got them to put my name instead of hers on the list. Weird how the hostess introduced me to some EMI people as Andrew from Virgin Mobile. So I had to pretend to work for them until I ran into a few people I knew from MTV Canada and didn't have to pretend to mingle with people. It was literally the luckiest and most coincidental thing. Especially since she came in just as I had finished showing off the Violet Hill video to my co-worker on my ipod.

wow lucky you!!

thanks a lot for sharing :)

Awesome story! Thank you for bringing some solid info to Coldplaying on this long and hard day of deceit, haha.

Ohhh.... YAY! Now I am really pumped to listen to it! Thanks so much. :D You wouldn't have happened to remember any lyrics would you? Even if it's something small that stuck out...? :)

very lucky man... though i'm sorry to hear from a number of sources now that 42 is overrated.

andrew, do you know what they mean by 42 nods at Lennon's 'imagine'? does the piano riff resemble that of imagine at all?

also, does the clip of LIJ from grey's give an accurate impression of what the song is actually like, by which i mean (i) are there any major parts missing from it (e.g. whole verses) and (ii) it seems to cut to different parts very abruptly - is that how the song is or is that just amateurish editing?

Thanks so much Andrew! :D

When you were talking about song lengths and most of them being 4 minutes or less, what about the combined songs? Take for example Yes/Chinese Sleep Chant (though not specifically that one), would Yes be around 3 and a half minutes and Chinese Sleep Chant around the same (leading to a total song length of 7 minutes or so) or are they both short songs about 2 or so minutes each bringing the total lengh of the song to around 4 minutes? Same goes for Lovers in Japan/Reign Of Love as well.

And do the combined songs blend into eachother in any way? I know you said they're not both part of the one song and they're seperate, but does something like the last chord of one song ring into the beginning of the next or is there a gap of silence in between?

This in awesome. Thanks for the information!

Question: Was Viva la Vida noticeably extended on the album? The single we've heard is called a "new edit" on itunes, so just wondering.

Also, are there a lot of places where Chris stops singing and the band just plays around for awhile? We've certainly heard this on Lovers in Japan and Life in Technicolor, so is it common throughout the album?

Ahhh so awesome! Thanks for posting! :D

I wonder, do you have any favorite "lyrical" moments from what you remember hearing? What did most of the lyrics sound like compared to what we've already heard from the released/leaked tracks?

What's the deal about The Escapist beeing a longer version of LiT, when som other review said that LiT would be the best song on the album if it was full lenght and had lyrics?

Much better review than The Sun's... cheers!

EDIT: I have a question. Did you notice any of the songs in the middle being a hidden track?

fantastic review!! Thanks for taking the time to fill us all in!! This is really encouraging and I can't wait to hear it myself!

i was thinking the same thing.

it would be awesome.

everybodystilllovesandrew, can you confirm that "the escapist" is a longer version with lyrics of LiT?

So your are saying that it's even better then A Night At The Opera, Ok Computer, Grace, Dark Side of The Moon etc .. ? :-o

I have a question - Life In Technicolour version you heard is the same version that we already have (Video Rough Cut)

cheers!!!
