I never said the new album was "rubbish." In my first post I clearly state: "Don't get me wrong, I bought the new album, and am enjoying it...but NOTHING like I did the other three."

I still enjoy the new album, just not like their previous three.

Well, you said, "And yes, this album is a HUGE let down to me". Pretty close. Anyways I liked how you latched on to that part since it wasn't my main point. My main point is you are one of those idiots who thinks only the music they like is "good".

Also, the usage of "Gay" as a derogatory term?

Grow the hell up.

dude, chill.

i cant believe we have another thread with this gay dancing thing :dozey:

That's what I was thinking.

Can we use another word for his dancing, please?

Stupid?

over-the-top?

and I don't think VLVODAAHF is artsy or commercial, like some were saying on the first page. I think it's nearly perfect and Coldplay have never sounded better, it's definately a step up from X&Y [which I thought was awesome anyway]. But I tend to be biased and that's just my two cents.

i actually love the new songs except the singing could have been better at some points (Stawberry, 42 slow part, Death slow part, Escapist)

it's not so u2ish as i read here and here, no ripp-off tentatives that i noticed

other than Chinese Sleep Chant witch sounds like some My Bloody Valentine tune , and i like its noisy rock feels

my favorites are Lost!, Yes and Lovers in Japan, the production gets a bit cheesy on the slow parts of the 'double tunes' (witch was a bad idea as the songs doesn't match)

but i really like the big wide Enoesque sound of the album

dude, chill.

Yeah, a lot of you need to chill. I just tried to state my opinions in a very kind manner to start a discussion......I DO realize that they are simply my opinions, and not the way things are ;)

Dude, saying something is gay (and i know you added 'ish' to soften it) is not exactly kind. I've let stuff like that slip from time to time, but its never something im proud of (definitely not something id include in a post too), and its certainly not kind.

In regards to your opinions though:

I don't understand how they have gotten artsy. I think they have progressed in their musical style, and in doing so they've broken out of that college type band. I think that, more than anything, is what people have to realize. Have you ever heard a band, especially one that started at such a young age, not change their sound. I mean seriously, no band is going to be the same when they're twenty to when they're thirty. They've changed and moved on personally and musically, and its fine if someone's musical taste doesn't change with the band, but don't think they should live in the past. There's only so many of the old tunes you can make. And even if they found a way to make new ones, they'd be old very fast.

You also make very little sense. Artsy music in the most basic sense should be the least shallow. The music you referenced in others posts like miley cyrus, rihana, etc is probably the most shallow there is. Regardless, thats my opinion, and should certainly not hinder anyone elses ablility to enjoy it.

I firmly believe music a window to the soul, and you listen to music that speaks to you. Taste has everything to do with it. I like this. You like that. I don't think its right for anyone to question what music means to them. Sure, I may hate the Pussycat Dolls...but maybe (somewhere...anywhere) someone finds it good?:\ I may be skeptical about the merits of their music, but surely someone enjoys it.

Evidently Coldplay's old music was better for you. Well if you aren't digging the new Coldplay sound, listen to the old stuff, and find a new band that sounds the same.

no i just think they've gone from awesome to tiresome

Honestly, what a let down.

I respect that you have an opinion, but lets examine your credibility here. I'm a new member and shouldn't be the one calling this out, but your registered name is letdown and 95% of your posts mention something negative about the album or how great radiohead is. You also don't rank Coldplay in your top five bands. My question to you is, why are you even a member of this forum if all you do is bash?

i respect your opinion but i dont think the same as you do (i love the album :))

yep i think the same maybe is a troll.( i dont like radiohead sorry)

now that's what i call a post! ;)

Your opinions are fine, we're just picking on how you state them. You don't like the way he dances, thats fine. Find a way to say that without offending people. You don't like other popular music, thats fine, but it doesn't mean its shit because you don't like it.

VIVA LA VIDA ALBUM REVIEW (DATED 6/16/08)

dl_artwork.jpg

*Dated 6/16/08

" The ability to evoke emotions such as, triumph, and pain, throughout a song, is a difficult process. Since their formation in 1996 and, their first release in the Fall of 2000, Coldplay, has solidified their stature in the music mantra that is, Rock music (Alternative for those technical geeks). They have become a household name among all races, demographics, and, all countries all over the world with only 3 albums under their belt. 3 years after the successful release of their critically acclaimed third LP "X&Y", the British boys have come back with their musical version of the Latin phrase "Carpe Diem" (seize the day). "Viva La Vida Or Death and all of his Friends" (Viva La Vida for short), is the foundation of the bands new roots in the genre of music they have relative in producing. "Viva La Viva" (meaning "Live The Life"), tells the story that couldn't have been expressed without a heavy guitar, convicting piano, a humble set of percussion instruments, and a very artistically driven album cover (I mean, look at that LOL). Within listening to the whole album (45:53 in length), you can notice the change occurring in your mind and your "ear- buds", due to the "new found niche", you will call "Coldplay".

The album begins with a triumphant ode to rock-electronica, "Life in Technicolor". With a very futuristic sound, it seems the group may have made an instrumental answer to U2's "City of Blinding Lights". A very great way to set the mood for an epic story that begins in track 2. "Cemeteries of London" set's Chris Martin's voice in a narrative tone, telling the story of journeys that soldiers faced. He croons over the first verse "At night they'd go walking, till the breaking of the day/ the morning is for sleeping/ through the dark streets/ they go searching to see God in their on way/ save the night-time for your weeping ...", laced with a heavy chanting chorus that can almost be perceived as a "Stadium Anthem", it is clear to notice that aside from the melodic arrangements that were greatly produced by Brian Eno, It's evident to see that the lyricism is at a great altitude in this album. Taking the common advice of the "Less- is-more" approach, The subtle approach of few words spoken, is a hit for the band. "Lost" can be the great cross-over track for most Hip-Hop fans who aren't familiar with Coldplay's previous works, and just have chimed in based on the feature that linked Kanye West and Chris Martin together, for the song "Homecoming" off of Kanye's 2007 classic "Graduation". This song serves a lot of notoriety, as well as a nice drum led beat on the album. "42" is the most optimistic record I have heard since i first gave ear to John Lennon's "Imagine". Funny that I say this because, if you listen closely to the beginning of the song, it almost seems as if the piano elements from "Imagine" were borrowed to create a totally newer version. While a spell binding, subtle yet intricate choices of words to create a chorus, "Those who are dead/ are not dead/ they're just living in my head ..." it is clear to see the groups aim. Although most may find it tacky, or controversial, I believe the band excelled greatly in their task and have made an uplifting toast for our generation. This 10 track album (plus 2 bonus tracks) have some songs that last for about 6 minutes long, having hidden tracks seconds after the first song has ended. One notably exceptional song on the album, is the track "Yes". It will have you saying "Yes, this song is a hit", especially after hearing the guitar high speed driven "Chinese Sleep Chant" (placed right after "Yes"). Even the two leading single's for this LP, have proven sharp edge and heavy anticipation for this album. The title track "Viva La Vida" portrays Chris' voice is a very beautiful, story -telling octave, as he professes his life as a once lived king - turned peasant, over a somewhat monumental, london-bell orchestration. "Violet Hill" capture's Chris once again, in his downtime as he reminisces over the lost love of his life. The album ends with the second half of the title track. "Death and All of His Friends", is such a beautiful track, as it embarks on a questionable conclusion of the album's adventurous sound, and lyricism, with a subtle aspect of instrumentation in the first minute. Building momentum on a heavy chopped, chord driven, piano laden kick, the melody warps listener's in to make its final impression. As the songs fades out, the only thing you hear is an echo on synth's [synthesizer's], leading to the way the album first began only this time called "The Escapist", while we now hear Chris' voice chiming, over the song. Signifying their journey has became complete in another way of living "Life in Technicolor".

It is rare to find a rock band in this generation that can defy their own boundaries and rip an old page out, to write a new one efficiently as Coldplay has done with this album. The only thing that reminds me of this is, Pink Floyd's transition from their 1973, "Dark Side of the Moon", to their 1979, "The Wall" and that album was a 2 disc (or vinyl); "Viva La Vida" is only 1. The key component to a classic is to have an "effortless error" which Coldplay possessed in some of the tracks. It leaves a great mystery that stimulates your imagination; you'll find yourself thinking, "I wonder how the song would've been if they would've did this ..." Another plus, is the story-line that excentuates progresses throughout the 46 minutes of this album. The Joy and pain is almost relatively felt and each song almost portrays a new scene of act, as if you were at a Shakespearean play. The band ended the way they started and also did not add any fluff [extra unnecessary songs] to the album. It was straight, and to the point, the MUSIC. I will say it now, I believe this album will be an "Album of the Year" nominee for the 2009 Grammy's. Anything short of the Glory, would be shameful. 5 star classic. The Glory. "

" "

*Also, for those curious minds * ...,

*The album did not get the high rating it did, because it is something outside of Hip-Hop that I'm just trying to be "Down" with, it got the rating it deserves! NUFF SAID*

VLV or DAAHF my favorite album...ever

Okay, so I am usually a song by song type of guy. I don't usually "appreciate" albums, but rather a few songs within each one. There are definitely albums I look at as amazing. Some that really have no holes. But I have now reached the stage where I have left Coldplay to listen to other music for a time (:o i know sacrelige), and I cannot shake the feeling that Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends is the best album I have ever listened to. I'd say A Rush of Blood to the Head is pretty damn close, but the connection I feel towards this album is almost uncanny. The thoughts, themes and feelings emenating from this album just continue to hit me and blow my mind. Lets just say I'm pretty happy Coldplay made this.

that's really nicely said ! :nice: Glad to know you're back at listening to Coldpay !

Glad to hear about your enthusiasm for VLVODAAHF! I totally agree with you though; it is nice to explore the unique and vibrant songs of other bands every now and then. Even though I am a huge Coldplay fan, like most of us here ;), I still enjoy many other genres of music, including R&B, Classical, and Jazz. It makes you appreciate Coldplay more when you can listen to the music that has inspired their own, original sound and style...

I gotta say that Im feeling that same connection. Its not every day an album comes out that has so little filler. I know there are fans that go crazy and that it annoys people to no end. However, this album is has got so many contrasting songs and many different emotions are evoked on every listen. There have been few albums in my 37 years that have been as instantly likeable as VLVorDAAHF. As to being my favorite...? Time is the best judge. I just cant see it not making my all time top 10 or so. Comparing it to any of the favorites I already have seems pointless because I love it for what it is to me. A great album!

I am very pleased with the results after waiting so long to hear it. It was worth every minute.

I feel the same way! I wasn't expecting for them to release another album that I loved as much as AROBTTH or X&Y [Yes, I liked X&Y :P] but they did! I try to be objective when listening to this album, I don't want the fact that it's new material after three years to cloud my judgement, but I think I can say that this is my favorite Coldplay album. :smug: It's very diverse and has a song for every mood I'm in, and I looove the lyrics. VLV has like the best Coldplay lyrics, I think. Chris really outdid himself! I can really relate to them, and when I feel down this album makes me feel better.

Overall, very good. I'm so proud of them! :nice:

yeah im still building up a catolog of favorites, but this is at the top. i mean, its got everything you could really want - different emotions really. im really objective no matter who it is. i mean, i know when im telling myself to like a song and when i actually like it. im not telling myself to like any of these songs. see the best part is that without coldplay maybe i dont listen to yes or 42 (if i hear the middle clip lol), but i did.

my musical palette is broadening with time, or maybe rather its focusing in depending on perspectives, but this album has made me redefine what i listen to.

i dont want to seem like im conflicting in my views. what im saying is i wouldn't dislike 42 or yes if i heard them not knowing they were coldplay, i just wouldn't listen because "oh i don't usually listen to music like that". coldplay (and a host of other bands ive been listening to recently) are changing what i consider good music.

Viva "Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends"

The more I listen to VLVODAAHF I appreciate X&Y, Parachutes and AROBTHH. I really love how they can change the music type from one album to another and still remain the same. How songs like Yes/Chinese Sleep Chant and Lovers In Japan and Strawberry Swing can be on the same CD and be so different, but flow so well. It really shows the bands abilities to produce music that is not the 'hip' type, but yet so many people from so many backrounds can relate and enjoy it. Its a beautiful thing.

Yes it's pretty much perfect in my book - I may not get to Heaven, but at least I've heard this album!! :)

Wiki update: We've been adding all the reviews as they've been published, and I have finally had the time to compile them into a handy index
