Viva la Vida - love that title.

Worst Album exclusive ever

I just got back from Circuit City to pick up a physical copy of Viva La Vida (my itunes pre-order is having issues). I must say that if anyone is going out of their way to get to Circuit city for their exclusive T-Shirt with purchase of cd, don't bother. It's litteraly just a white (size L) t-shirt with the word "coldplay" in black letters across it. I saw the t-shirt in the weekend add, but I thought it was just a placeholder picture. I think it's actually pretty funny how bad the t-shirt is, but at least it was free. The Newberry comics glass looks a lot nicer, but they charge too much (almost $20 after shipping) so I had to pass on that.

Well.....they had a picture of the shirt in the ad didn't they? I kinda figured it would just be a white shirt with black lettering. I got one too. Should make a nice beach shirt or undershirt though lol. I'm sure I'll wear it around. Not too bad IMO. I've seen worse.

lol...thats all I can say!

oops too late! i already bought my CD and wearing the oversized tshirt ,at least its wearable

i am loving the CD by the way.

LOL, I went to Circuit City just to get my shirt. When I got there they told me they did not have any more shirts. The lady at the checkout told me that the store only had 4 shirts to give away. Oh well, at least I finally got my CD.

So I was first in line and got my cd and was first to pay, but some bitch lady took all the shirts from my cashier and gave it to her costumers. I was like WTF! I was first! then I just said eh fine keep your 3 dollar shirt. So i get home and im ready to listen to the cd when i noticed that it was scratched all over. as if someone threw it on the floor and was stomping on it. Circuit city is shit, and i told them that when i went back. Bought my new one at bestbuy instead. Fucking pricks.

My thoughts on the new album (go easy)

Now this is just my opinion, so don't shoot me or anything...

To put this VERY brief, I'll just say these things:

- I wish Chris would get back to playing his guitar and definitely his piano (like in the "old days") and quit with all the gay-ish dancing. And it's not even really dancing. It's just a bunch of random crap.

- I'm ready for Guy to get back to REALLY playing his bass............just like in the "old days."

- I'm ready for Jonny to get back to guitar parts that consist of more than 3 notes.........played at only tiny selected parts of their songs....gah.

- I'm ready for Coldplay to quit trying to be so "artsy" and get back to rockin......just like in the old days.

I just think there new music isn't very good. Just too "artsy" which in reality, is really very shallow (at least to me). Don't get me wrong, I bought the new album, and am enjoying it...but NOTHING like I did the other three.

ok i agree with wishing chris to go back to playing his piano and quit with the moronic dancing but what is it about your wanting Guy to REALLY play his bass??

i think the problem is they should stop rockin and go back to being artsy just like in the really old EP days. you think the latest coldplay is "artsy"? have you not heard artsy music?? this is way too glossed over and commercialized (x&y) but now they added some experimenting to it (VLV).

i don't LOVE vlv but it's definitely better than x&y though!!!

so basically you think they've gone from artsy...to rockin....(opposite of what I said). I don't understand that though. Stuff in their old days is MUCH more "rock."

Example:

No More Keeping my Feet on the Ground vs Viva La Vida

Shiver vs Lovers in Japan

Bigger Stronger vs 42

Stuff in their old days is much more rock. You could take a guitar, bass, drums, maybe a piano, and play them! Now it's all a bunch of prerecorded tracks and crap...

no i just think they've gone from awesome to tiresome

sounds like they are trying so hard, but not sure if it's working. obviously it's working for most people because look at the rate at which this record is selling, but honestly, what a let down.

Ah ok, I see what you're saying. And yes, this album is a HUGE let down to me. And it doesn't matter how many albums are sold or how popular music gets. Most of the world has trashy taste in music anyway. If you make crappy music and get in the top ten.....have fun with that :P ....but if you make good music and sell a couple albums or play a few shows, or even just play for your friends.......now that's awesome:cool:

hmmm. I have to disagree with both of you. Parachutes and AROBTTH were both very chill albums full of great, simple beats and excellent vocals by Chris. They were awesome in their simplicity. X&Y tried to go for a more mainstream rock type and it was far too polished. Compared to the first two albums, it was a huge let down for me. VLVODAAHF is a major departure from both the simplistic coldplay and the polished. It sounds so different for me because of all the new instruments they decided to throw in as well as letting the music take priority over Chris' singing. I wouldn't call this experimentation artsy at all. If you enjoy the simplistic coldplay, then I can understand your disappointment; however, they guys have created an amazing fourth album by trying something different. We had two great albums of their old stuff and they realized that people were getting tired of it with X&Y. I think trying something new was the right decision and it payed off.

What qualifies you to say that the world has trashy taste in music? So you're the only one on the planet with good taste in music?

In regards to selling a couple albums and playing only a few shows..its their profession..how about I tell you to work without expecting any payoff/promotions etc? You'd be happier if they were living with their parents and living paycheck by paycheck from small gigs and close to 0 record sales? Be a lil realistic before you open your mouth..or type.

No, I just look at the list of top songs in the nation, and see artists like Jonas Broters, Rihanna, Pussycat Dolls, Miley Cyrus, etc. That's what I was talking about when I said "MOST of the world has trashy taste in music."

And as for the second comment, all I was saying is that I'm not gonna judge music as good or bad dependent on whether it's popular or not.

I've been having mood swings about the new album...first "it's okay." then "It's incredible, best thing they've ever done!", then "oh no! it's really not that good." and now "it's not bad, better than the last album with some nice improvements". Seriously, if you want an honest, lasting opinion, ask me in a month. worst part is when you just get the album, it takes several days to get over the shellshock and a couple weeks to put it in clear perspective.

The most of the world has trashy taste in music part is where you made me want to stop listening to you. You may have some valid points in your first post. I think all of us miss some of coldplay's raw-er stuff. But to say the album is rubbish is as ignorant as saying the rest of the world has trashy taste in music. Coldplay's new stuff may not be your cup or tea, other styles of popular music may not be your cup of tea, but to say other people are wrong for the music they enjoy is just dumb. Step down off of your pedestal. Music is about how it makes you feel, and if people find that in a music you don't like then that doesn't mean it's trash. Narcissistic much?

yeah, for me it went like :

1 hhmm, much better than X+Y=0

2 well, no song really stands out, guess it means the album is good, homogenous

3 actually it just means the songs are poor, average at best

4 (second week after leak) viva la vida ? ah yeah, i did dled it, completely forgot about it

5 viva la what ?

F**king hell, another "gay dancing" comment. I stopped reading after that bit.

I never said the new album was "rubbish." In my first post I clearly state: "Don't get me wrong, I bought the new album, and am enjoying it...but NOTHING like I did the other three."

I still enjoy the new album, just not like their previous three.

this is the best work coldplay ever done
