Viva la vida is half Amazing half crappy

some songs on the album are amazing like lovers, strawberry, viva, death

but some are so terrible they seem overdone ! songs like COL,42,LOST i love the acoustic but the album version has this stupid hiphop hand clapp that is anoying! 42 is the worst CP song i have ever heard it is terrible and who ever likes it please tell me why

i rated viva la vida and death 5/10

how long did that take you? :P

i'm surprised you don't see it surpassing either arobtth or parachutes. i see it surpassing parachutes by mabye not arobtth. but it was a nice review. very very very intense

It never ceases to amaze me how F***ing Brilliant this album is. This seriously my favorite album ever! The variety is great! Each song is not like the other (except beginning and end)! Sometime on this thread ill make my own review of each song track by track

haha, well it took me maybe an hour, maybe a little more to type all that out. when i get in the groove i can go pretty fast :P

yeah, i just don't see much surpassing AROBTTH or parachutes, but those are the two hardest albums in the world to beat for me, so i don't think the fact that this is coldplay's third best album in my opinion makes it flawed or bad. AROBTTH and parachutes are in a different league for me :D

haha, intense is definitely the right word.

Your review is perfect, Chelsea! :cheesy: And it's also very thorough. Good job.

Ok. I'm going to rate each song, and make one comment on it, because I can't sit here all day. (And I call myself a Coldplay fanatic. :P)

Life in Technicolor- 8/10: Not a big fan of instrumentals, but this is beautiful! Chris' voice would have made it too pop.

Cemeteries of London- 9/10: Like Chelsea, I didn't get it at first either, but after the 5th listen I was hooked! Also, there was a terrible thunderstorm here the other night and I was listening to it, and I actually got scared. :uhoh: Powerful song.

Lost!- 8/10: It has a hip hop vibe to it and I like it. The guitar in it is gorgeous, I didn't think the acoustic version (7/10) did this song enough justice.

42- 7/10: I don't like the first part, but once it gets going, it's gets going!! I love the part "you thought you might be a ghost! You didn't get to heaven but you made it close!" But I do like how it comes full circle at the end.

Lovers in Japan- 9/10 (acoustic: 10/10): It is so hard to choose between the two versions, but the acoustic has a little more "umph." :P But this a GOORRRRGEOUS song, this and strawberry swing makes me feel in love, and i have no one. :P

Reign of Love- 6/10: Very bland for me.

Yes- 8/10: Coldplay suprised me with this one, especially the lyrics ("turns you on??!" :freak:) But it's sexy and fiesty and exactly what I expected. Not my favorite though.

Chinese Sleep Chant- 8/10: Would get a higher score if I could hear what Chris was saying. It's still pretty.

Viva La Vida- 10/10: BEAUTIFUL. The end.

Violet Hill- 9/10: Definitely a grower. The first time I heard it, I was getting ready for school, and I was thinking 'when is Coldplay's new song going to come on?!' and this was it. I thought they were joking about the whole 'new direction' business.

Strawberry Swing- 10/10: POTENTIAL WEDDING SONG! :cheesy: Oh my God, the guitar riffs are beautiful. The whole song is just perfect. This and LiJ make me want to find the love of my life and get married right this second, :nice: and I'm only 17.

Death and All His Friends-9/10: Love, love, LOVE the Coldplay chorus towards the end. Love the lyrics. Love everything.

The Escapist- 10/10: Album seems to end on a somber note, but I'm glad this is the last song. The lyrics are haunting and touching. Just lovely.

Overall I am very pleased with the album. Worth the three year wait. I am very impressed with Will's drumming and how Chris seems to be testing his vocal boundaries. :nice: Guy and Will put a lot of rhythm into this record and Jonny! Oh, Jonny. :nice: The guitar riffs are euphoric.

handclap for strawberry=good

handclap for lost = bad?

win....

i don't agree with you at all. tell me how cemeteries is overdone at ALL?! i agree Lost! is a tiny bit overdone. and 42 isn't the worst song theyve ever done! it's fucking amazing!!!!!! from the lyrics to the complete shifts in the sound throughtou the song it's fucking incredible. seriously i could see if you just didnt like it but to say its their worst is incredulous.

whats wrong with the handclapping?

and whats wrong with incorporating more interesting beats into songs.

cemeteries of london and lost! are my favorite tracks on the album.

even though lost! sounds a bit hip-hop-y... it's still one of more emotional tracks on the album.

ahh, jenika, i love the new avi and sig!! that's my favorite songggggg :nice:

Thanks! Hehe, I can gush about that song for hours. :P

I don't understand how the stereogum review called the last half of the song dull?!

The Official Qwerty Review of Viva La vida

will be posted soon!!!!!!!

OMG! I LOVE the clapping in Cemeteries...that's part of the Spanish influence on the album.:D

I don't agree with you at all...42 is a very good song, because it combines the old Coldplay with the new Coldplay - the first part is very sad but it rises up to the middle part when we can hear the band jamming like they have never done before...And that uplifting part leads to the chorus (you thought you might be ghost...) which turns the songs in an anthem! Be careful, 42 might be a grower if you like more the old Coldplay..And remember, after all, it is the song everybody has to hear before they die!!!

Regarding Lost!, I think it was a mistake to hear Lost? before - because the acoustic version is very Coldplay-ish, so when you are presented the clap thing and the hip-hop rhythm you might get a little bit shocked...However, don't tell me that you won't clap when they sing it live!

cheers!

To each his own, I guess.

exactly

And 42 is one of my fav tracks..so is Lost!

I completely agree with you in Lost!, but I completely disagree with you about 42.

In Lost! I dislike so much the hand clapping, and that african rhythm, in fact I haven't thought of it as a hip-hop rhythm... that can make me dislike it even more  I think this song is going to be my “A Whisper” for this album, and I really liked Lost? I think that if they would have used their usual instruments and played it like in an AROBTTH way, Lost! would have been one of my favorite songs of this album. But maybe all of you are right they needed to try new instruments and rhythms and I’m very close-minded person. :dozey:

In the contrary, 42 is one my favorite songs of the album, and in fact I think is one of the best songs that Coldplay has ever done, the three parts of the songs are awesome in their own way, and really I can’t stop listening to it. :P

I couldn't disagree with you more, there isn't a bad track on the new album. Yes, the acoustic version of Lost is much better, but the studio version is still pretty damn good, and 42 is an amazing song. Maybe the best song they've ever done.

To each his/her own, though, I guess. :|

I'm very lazy to do a review I can only say it's awesome, but one thing that I want to mention is that for some reason I change of favorite track everyday:

June 4: 42

June 5: Chinese Sleep Chant

June 6: Lovers in Japan

What song would be tomorrow? No idea, and in a month? Don't know probably Lost! which is the only song that I dislike of the album... VLVODAAHF can be very unpredictable :laugh3:

review after some hearings:

Life in Technicolor: 4/5 very good instrumental but not revolutionary

Cementaries of London: 4/5 nice but not top

Lost ! : 5/5 Great, did not expect it could beat the acoustic one but the guitar solo is amazing

42: 5/5 the first half just perfect maybe 6/5 but the second part make it not better

Lovers in Japan: 3/5 not yet grown on me

Reign of Love: 4/5 i like it very much....it's different with great atmosphere

Yes: 4/5 a little bit dissapointing for me

Chinese Sleep Chant: 5/5 awesome....maybe an insider tip

Viva La Vida: 5/5 maybe the song that gets most popular of this album

Violet Hill: 3/5 to heavy in some parts...an experiment which coldplay should discard

Strawberry Swing: 4/5 Good but not good enough for a hit

Death and all his friends: 4/5 great in some parts 5/5

The Escapist: 4/5 good close....reminds me of Pink FLoyds Albums "Animals"/"WIsh you were here" i a sense that the same song open and close the album
