For me I find this to be a solid album. I still have to listen to it a bit more and also give time to full decide the impact of this album (like x&y i thought was great at first but now it's my least favorite album by them).

 

Overall Album Rating- 8.5-9/10 (it'll probably increase with more listens)

 

My favorite song on this album would have to be "Death and all His Friends"... it's just so good melodically and I personally think that this song is one of the best songs that they have written. What i feel about this song is that he's singing about how he doesn't want to die ("i don't want to fallow death and all of his friends"), but then he does die and we see him raising from the dead with the escapist with ("and in the end we lie awake and dream of making our escape")

Cemeteries of London: 9.0 (the claps and guitar solo make this one hot)

Lost!: 10 (coolest drums/tablas/melody ever in a Coldplay song)

42: 9.5 (beginning sounds real soulful)

Lovers In Japan: 9.0

Reign Of Love: 7.5

Yes: 10 (the most unique Coldplay song ever made)

Chinese Sleep Chant: 8.0

Viva la Vida: 10 (best song on the album lyrically and instrumentally)

Violet Hill: 8.5 (after hearing the other tracks this one seems less innovative)

Strawberry Swing: 10 (took a while to get into it but everything about it is beautiful)

Death and All His Friends: 8.5

The Escapist: 9.5 (perfect way of ending the album)

 

 

so far this is my favorite Coldplay album and it is definitely their most unique and innovative album. not perfect but excels my expectations of it :D

Started off a bit disappointed, with Viva la Vida and Lost!, which I'd heard before, outshining the first few 'new songs', but 42 shows promise as do Yes and Strawberry Swing. Listening to Daahf now...

So, i know alot of people have listened to this album, i have choose not too and wait till it gets in stores to buy it and listen to it. I had realllly high hopes for this one, espically when coldplay said this was the album "people will remember us" by. The reviews have not been so great by the critics and even chris was hopeful for it.

 

So what im getting at is, is this as great as i hoped itd be, i dont expect the best album in the world but i do expect some reallly good rhythms, good beats with the level of lyrics that ive come to expect from coldplay.

Im just thinking always what he said: "We want to get better, not bigger" or something like that, so, this new material is a beginning of something better.

....Its without a doubt the best album they have ever done:stunned:. Its innovative, reminescent, creative, risky, creepy, beautiful.... :)

The album is good, don't start listening to it expecting anything, put all your expectations behind when you listen to it or risk being disappointed. For example, 42 is NOT the awesomeness it was hyped to be, it's an average song on the album.

yeah, i mean i know in these forums x&y isnt thought of as that great but personally i really enjoyed it, along with all their other work.

Agreed, completely. You know what opinions are like?

 

Whats yours? If you like it, play it all you want.

 

If you dont like it, say so and pull out the ones you do... My opinion is just that an opinion. Thats the only thing that matters to me in the end.

 

Others thoughts are of interest to me. Even the ones I dont agree with. I know its been made fun of but I printed out The Suns review and I like to think its the only one that counts from professionals so far and thats the way I like it. :)

There are lot of good things but also lyrics became too GRANDE,like viva la vida or reign of love ,there is god in every single song but,they're geting better,they are good but also should work more on sincerity lirycs on music,but it's relly good album,there IS LIFE in it, and it was goal!!!

Well Done Boys.... so proud.

 

It's been a long 2 1/2 years or so...... and as ever the pressure on you guys is stupidly high. Somehow (and it sounds like it's been a struggle at times) you have managed to concentrate on the most important thing... the music.

 

The album (after only 1 full listen) is such a change from what we've heard before. Some people may not like that (lets be honest, the biggest and best band in the world could keep producing the same old stuff - but that's the easy way, it's just not Coldplay).

 

For many it will be a difficult listen. So many sounds, songs in songs, slow songs, fast songs, slow and fast songs... even parts of the same song at the start and end!! But at the end of the day it is another fantastic record. At least 4 or 5 of the songs are up there with the bands best material.

 

The tours this year are going to be superb. I cannot wait.... even if it is another 5 months for us poor English folk!!!

 

But to finish, i am so proud. This long journey started for me as a Coldplay-hater (sorry to admit it). I went along to a concert with a friend to see the support group (outrageous when i think back!!!)......... that night changed my musical life.

 

Coldplay, guys, we are so proud of what you've done. The English boys who made it big. Even when you're losing, you know you're not lost.

yeah its like their testing me now, first with the leaks, now they got the whole ablum up, its getting ridiculous, next thing i know itll just be sitting in my itunes music library waiting for me to listen to early.

I think this record will get a reprise. Most reviewers have only heard the album once in a room with a load of other music journos.

 

Hell, if Pitchfork are changing their minds about Coldplay then CJWG must be doing something right.

I think a lot of the reviews are jumping on the bandwagon in not giving it high marks because they all raved abouy X@Y when it first came out but then there was a bit of a backlash against it . I think this time it will work the other way round because once people hear it they will wonder what the hell the critics were listening to but dont worry having failed in not listening to it i think it is simply their best album yet buy quite a way
