Prince Myshkin
Been away for a while but RE Parker: I hate certain sections of the media. They put on this front claiming to love the underdog and the smaller teams, then as soon as anything out of the ordinary happens they don't like it. It's a London team, I would have thought they'd have been chuffed. It's so annoying that they just have to make everything controversial then there is a talking point. Talksport is the worst for that. It's like when Stoke came up they loved them. The long throw was interesting and many described it as 'an extra dimension'. Then after half a season or so, until this season when they actually started using wingers a little more they got no praise whatsoever. Blackpool were loved when they came up, but the media are turning on them a little now the points have dried up and Holloway is annoying them. It's like how they started to turn on Burnley last season towards the end, and like they did with Hull the season before. They were loving them at first when Giovanni was banging them in, then they wanted them down after the first half of the season. They didn't want them to perhaps stop up, improve in the Summer and then reproduce some of the early season form, they just got bored of their flavour of the month. So reactionary. Parker deserves player of the year in my eyes, it certainly isn't a talking point to this extent. The clue is in the title, 'player of the season'. This sin't about what team you play for, it's about individual performance and his contribution. If he'd been putting them performances in for a top club then it would be fine, but because those around him aren't mirroring his achievements meaning they stay towards the bottom, doesn't take away from his individual merit. These pieces should be more about congratulating him followed by some congratulations for those who missed out and who people thought those people were. Not just a straight up, 'Why the fuck has this guy won it?'.
mc_squared
^OK - keep your hair on!:stunned: Anyway, it's true that people shouldn't make a big deal of it when the promoted teams start like a house on fire, as everyone knows it's a long season and they almost always run out of steam in the end. It's more or less inevitable.

mc_squared
BBC's Munich air crash film is 'insulting rubbish': Matt Busby's son says £2m football drama portrays his father as a gangster By Bob Graham Last updated at 12:22 AM on 23rd April 2011 Comments (16) Add to My Stories The makers of a BBC film about the Munich air crash have been accused of insulting and exploiting the memory of those killed and injured. Sandy Busby, son of the legendary Manchester United manager Sir Matt, described the £2million production as a ‘piece of rubbish’ which made his father look like a gangster. Former United goalkeeper Harry Gregg, who became known as the hero of Munich after pulling injured victims from the blazing wreckage, said the film was an ‘embarrassment’ and added that he had asked for his name to be removed from the credits. Former United goalkeeper Harry Gregg, who pulled injured victims from the blazing wreckage, said that scenes including one where a player is shown smoking a pipe in the tunnel before the game were an 'affront' to the dead The wife of surviving defender Bill Foulkes said it was a 'shocking insult' that he was not even mentioned in the 90-minute production, starring former Doctor Who actor David Tennant (pictured) He said that scenes including one where a player is shown smoking a pipe in the tunnel before the game were an ‘affront’ to the dead. And the wife of surviving defender Bill Foulkes, who led the team out at Wembley four months after the crash which claimed 23 lives, said it was a ‘shocking insult’ that he was not even mentioned in the film. The 90-minute production, starring former Doctor Who actor David Tennant, is to be screened tomorrow night. It focuses on the roles of Bobby Charlton, who was 20 at the time of the crash, and assistant manager Jimmy Murphy. Part of the film portrays how Murphy helped rebuild the team as Busby recovered from life-threatening injuries. Sandy Busby, left, son of Sir Matt, described the £2million production as a 'piece of rubbish' which made his father look like a gangster In previewing and promoting the film, Tennant, who plays Murphy, claimed: ‘I dare say the film will go out and people will find reason to quibble with certain details but the research was fastidious. It is as close to the truth as we can find.’ One survivor responded: ‘This may have been the sort of “fastidious” research they have for Doctor Who, but not for a deeply emotional and painful episode such as happened at Munich.’ The film, United, is loosely based on the events of February 1958, when the brilliant young team known as the Busby Babes were returning from Belgrade after playing a European Cup match against the Red Star team. After the team’s chartered aircraft refuelled at Munich, British European Airways flight 609 crashed on its third attempt to take off from the slush-covered runway. Twenty of the 44 on board were killed in the crash and another three died of their injuries in hospital in the days that followed. Eight players were among the dead, including 21-year-old Duncan Edwards, who was already regarded as one of the greatest British players of all time. Harry Gregg, now 78 and living in his native Northern Ireland, said: ‘The film portrays the team – one of the finest in the world at the time – as a pub team. ‘It gives a false picture of football at that time and the way in which Matt Busby created his visionary team. ‘There are a number of scenes where Mark Jones (a defender who died in the crash) is seen smoking a pipe, including in the changing room and in the tunnel before the game. I know there’s poetic licence but that’s ridiculous, insulting and an affront to the players and their memories.’ The wreckage of the plane carrying the brilliant young team known as the Busby Babes, which crashed on its third attempt to take off from the slush-covered runway in Munich in February 1958, killing 20 of the 44 on board The Busby Babes in 1957, the year before the devastating air crash. From left (standing): Eddie Colman (killed), Billy Foulkes, Ray Wood, Roger Byrne (killed), Mark Jones (killed), Duncan Edwards (killed); front: Dennis Viollet, Johnny Berry, Tommy Taylor (killed), Billy Whelan (killed) and David Pegg (killed) The film ignores the deaths of a senior member of the United management team, Walter Crickmer, coaches Bert Whalley and Tom Curry, and eight journalists, including the Daily Mail’s Eric Thompson. It also overlooks the dedication of the pilot Captain James Thain, who helped pull survivors from the wreckage. Dougray Scott’s portrayal of Matt Busby is criticised as being ‘sadly distorted and misleading’. Sandy Busby, who still has links with United, added: ‘They’ve put my dad in a long overcoat and a trilby hat and in doing so have made him more like a gangster. ‘In the film he never once appears in a tracksuit, despite the fact he was one of the first post-war managers known for putting on a tracksuit and getting out on the training pitch. ‘I was never consulted about the film and now having seen it, I’m glad I had nothing to do with it.’ Bill Foulkes, one of the eight survivors still alive, was unable to participate in the making of the film because of a long-term medical condition. His wife Teresa said: ‘How can they not mention Bill in the film? He’s erased from the story as if he never existed.’ A BBC spokesman said: ‘The film is a drama not a documentary. It was a dramatic choice to focus on the stories of Jimmy Murphy and Bobby Charlton but the same story could have been told in many ways as all are equally important. ‘The film was researched using biographies, testimonies, documentaries, personal accounts, first-hand interviews and Manchester United FC Museum. ‘The story of the Busby Babes is of huge social and cultural significance in this country and this film is a respectful and fitting portrayal of the spirit of the club and community as they fought to overcome this tragedy. ‘As soon as the film was finished, a private screening was arranged in Manchester for the survivors of the film and the relatives of those who lost their lives. No one came forward to object.’ Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1379752/BBCs-Munich-air-crash-film-insulting-rubbish-says-Sandy-Busby.html#ixzz1KLgqRGMq

I very much doubt that Hodgson would have done the same. Even Benitez. Benitez was always cautious with the youngsters but with Dalglish it's if you're good enough you're old enough! It's certainly paying off and you wonder if he can set a precedent here with the other managers of the clubs which can only be good for the national game. If you give the youth players the confidence that they can break into the first team rather than toil away believing they'll never get noticed then that could make a whole lot of difference. The youth team at Liverpool now know that if they can play well then there is a great chance they can get picked. I'd say the next two to break into the Liverpool first team will be Conor Coady and one of Jesus Fernando Suso or Raheem Sterling

Playing for a living club legend must be so inspirational. Even Joe Cole looked up for it when he came on! It can't be a coincidence that going back "in house" in terms of management is paying dividends again. That's how it always used to work at Anfield. Kenny himself seems to have been rejuvenated too. Let's hope Liverpool will finally be up there seriously challenging for honours again. It will be great for the Premiership. the first 10 pounds of the 50 million chelsea invested in torres has paid off. To be fair, he played well when he came on, and was finally looking more like his old self. It had to happen eventually.;)
mc_squared
Inter Milan in for £40m Tevez as Argentinian looks for Eastlands exit By Alex Montgomery Last updated at 10:24 PM on 23rd April 2011 Comments (0) Add to My Stories Carlos Tevez, Manchester City's Argentina striker, could be on his way to outgoing Italian champions Inter Milan for £40million. And the Milan club will try to offset the cost of that deal by selling Holland midfielder Wesley Sneijder for around £30m, with Manchester United a possible destination. Inter failed to prise Tevez, 27, out of City in January but owner Massimo Moratti has maintained his interest in the striker he believes could re-establish his club at the top in Italy, where deadly rivals AC Milan are on the point of becoming champions. Inter calling?: Carlos Tevez may be on his way to Italy Tevez arrived at City from United on a five-year deal two years ago but has been expected to leave this summer since a fall-out with the club before Christmas. He raised eyebrows by heading to Italy for treatment on his hamstring rather than supporting City in their 1-0 FA Cup semi-final victory over United. And he may yet miss their Wembley final against Stoke City on May 14.
