So after having just watched that match, I can safely call your reaction dick-esque, or at the very least artificial.

Yes artificial is spot on.

I don't get how you can hate a 'local rival team' when you are not a local of the team you support, the idea there is you come into close contact with other supporter of the other rival local team on a daily basis and to an extent, friendly banter ensues, along with a bit of genuine hatred.

For example I support Newcastle, but I didn't grow up there, I never understood and grew up alongside rival fans and never had a reason to dislike them, to me Sunderland's just like Everton or Fulham, I'm neutral. Now the derby games are important because you can see how much it means to the players and fans, but for me I never relish beating Sunderland, as long we get a fair enough result and what we deserve, just like any other game.

So it would certainly be artificial of me to start rooting against Sunderland, as I really couldn't give a shit, in fact I was quite happy to see them improve under O'Neill this season, because it wouldn't make sense for me to start laughing when they lose. I didn't grow up around the rivalry and I don't truely understand it, so I don't hate a team for the purpose of supporting another, that's just silly.

hmm, didn't really get that first part from "LETS ALL LAUGH AT ARSENAL"

Just because I'm mocking them, doesn't mean I'm unable to acknowledge they played a great match. But they are out. And I'm a Tottenham fan FFS, and as such, my role is to mock Arsenal.

Wwhich would have been the appropriate time to: *

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA WHAT THE- AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Well, that is how it works for you. For me, it's different. On the Internet, you can see Arsenal fans laughing at Tottenham when they lose, and vice-versa.

I know a few brazilian Arsenal fans on the Internet, and a former classmate of mine is an Arsenal fan. It's great to wake up in the morning and think "great, we won the derby! I'm going to wear my Bale shirt and laugh at my gooner friend", and it sucks when you wake up and thinks "damn, we lost the derby, that stupid gooner friend is going to mock me. Aw, screw him, I'm going to wear my Bale shirt anyway, just so he knows how proud I am to be a Tottenham fan".

I meant jersey (yes, I own a Bale shirt [or jersey, whatever]).

I know, for some reason that paragraph gave me the giggles.

Messi = incredible.

THE BEST PLAYER EVER. We should be privileged to witness sometone like that in our lifetime.

In case anyone doesn't know, Messi scored 5 goals in Barcelona's 7-1 win over Leverkusen, new Champions League record, nobodies scored 5 before.

Messi played well tonight in a stadium made up of toruists...

God. Damn.

I was watching til his gorgeous 27th minute (first) goal, and then left to see a movie (A Separation, strongly recommended), and then to record store to get a free Andrew Bird poster (random self-gratifying detail). Now I'm thinking I should've stayed. I'm sure Fox Soccer will have reruns going all week.

Haha, LA is playing Toronto in CONCACAF Champions League, and every single corner Beckham gets pelted by about five streamers thrown from the canadian crowd behind him. Ref's haven't done anything about it all game.

Toronto's goalkeeper is called Stefan Frei

On a more highbrow note, last season they had a midfielder named Mikael Yourassowsky.

Just a slight understatement there... :laugh3:

Mario said he likes going to the pub.

Wow! Well just when I thought you couldn't enlighten us any further!

Mario Balotelli likes going to the pub!

Wow!

Bilbao have been brilliant. They have dominated MU for the whole of the first half. They deserve more than 1-1!:veryangry2:

this is another crap home performance for Utd, Bilbao deserve more than this scoreline

Haha, I can only laugh at Man Utd. They havent been playing well recently and they have finally been found out!

You might be laughing at Utd but most Liverpool fans would probably give their right arm to be watching their team play on a Thursday again.
