Rooney apparently going to Arsenal?! Tevez going to Liverpool?!

Why do I read this shit. I mean crazier things have happened and these things may well happen (It'd be a coincidence though) but there's never, never a source in sight, it's always just written as if it's a work of fiction and everything's a fact.

I went to Manchester for the weekend, took advantage of the fire sale of the last remaining 2012-13 kits... and got this printed on it for my friends in Barcelona

edit: and new Barca kits. Away is slightly less ridiculous than before. Barcelona-New-Kit-2013-14.jpg

A very woeful away kit for the second season in a row. Don't know what Warrior are playing at. A lot of unhappy Liverpool fans needless to say!

Btw anyone catching the U21 action?

So Pellegrini has finally become Man City manager. Like the man a lot. Talented manager with a great football mind - Man City will be a much more credible force in Europe I'm sure. Had a lovely Villareal side a few years back. Remember they gave Arsenal a real scrap in the semis of the CL back in 2006. Was unfortunate to get shafted from Real after just one season. Good addition to the Premier League. Hope Man City give him the respect and time he deserves. Not sure if he'll get it though.

Jose Mourinho 'would have turned down Manchester United'

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho claims he knew months ago of Sir Alex Ferguson's plans to stand down as Manchester United boss, but says he was always intent on returning to Stamford Bridge.

Ferguson, 71, left Old Trafford last month after 26 years in charge and has since been replaced by David Moyes.

Mourinho said: "I knew that Ferguson was retiring many months ago.

"I would have turned down every job in the world - the Manchester United job, everyone - for Chelsea."

The Portuguese, who won the Premier League twice during his first spell in charge at Chelsea, has signed a four-year deal at Stamford Bridge after leaving Real Madrid.

Mourinho, 50, had long been linked with replacing Ferguson at United but insists that he was only interested in a return to Chelsea - despite being told of Ferguson's plans.

"I am so happy with his [Ferguson's] trust because it was big news for the world - I can imagine that just a very small circle around him knew that, and it was a big responsibility for me to know that," he said.

"Why do I know that? Because we are friends, so if I am his friend to know that he is going to retire, he is also my friend to know that the club I want to coach in England is Chelsea.

"Of course I told him I want to come to Chelsea. I would turn down every job in the world for Chelsea."

Mourinho has also warned his players that they will have to work hard to fit in once they start pre-season training at the start of July. Mourinho has confirmed that John Terry will stay as club captain but also said that players remaining from his first spell will not get special treatment.

He said: "There is something I say whenever I go to a new club and I am going to say it again when I meet the players on 8 July - and some of the boys will have heard it before from me.

"It is a sentence I always say on the first day: 'If you are a top professional, if you are not a selfish person, if you put the club in front of yourself and if you are here to work 100% for me, for your fellow players and for the club, then we will have a wonderful relationship.

"If you are selfish, if you think about yourself and you don't care about the club, don't care about the image, if you don't care about the fans then we are in big trouble, so it depends on you if the relationship is fantastic or if it is not fantastic."

Can't do any worst than 0-3-3 ;)

Just saw Italy vs Mexico in the Confederations Cup, Balotelli was like a new man, I've only seen clips of him in Serie A this season but watching this game he was always eager to get ahead/behind of the defender and win possession or look for a pass.

Maybe it's because he's no longer surrounded by greedy even more self-absorbed ****s who take no pride in their profession.

Watching confederations cup game Tahiti vs Nigeria right now....

It´s 1-6 after 80 minutes. My dog is a better defender than the whole Tahiti defence together...

Tahiti play Spain next, let's see if it hits double figures.

Oddly the commentators on TV here were talking about Tahiti possibly coming back when they were 3-1 down, they talked about it consistently until it became 4-1, like are they insane? I'm amazed Tahiti got a goal.

Betting odds for a Tahiti win were 40/1 here, and a bit generous I thought. It's too easy to beat up on an country with less than 200,000 people in tournaments like these. Truth is this is one of the most exciting event of most their lives, and 4-1 is not a terrible result. All credit for a perfectly decent goal. It would have been awful to go all 3 matches without something to celebrate.

Uh it ended 6-1 spieler you nubbin.

It really could've been over 10. I mean I know obviously it's a tiny island with a small population, but most of that team should be ashamed, the amount of times a ball was slipped through and the defenders just stood there looking at the linesman, literally not even moving for it.

There's a difference between a lack of talent and having absolutely no motivation to even try, and not only are they awful but mostly didn't even try, and this competition should be a big thing to them, not great to see.

whoopsiedooodles. I only watched the first half tbh.

Messi summons over Spain tax fraud

A Spanish judge has summoned Barcelona footballer Lionel Messi to appear in court on 17 September over tax fraud allegations.

The 25-year-old Argentine, who has four times been named World Player of the Year, and his father are accused of defrauding the Spanish authorities of more than 4m euros (£3.4m). They are suspected of using companies abroad - in Belize and Uruguay - to sell the rights to use Messi's image. They both deny the allegations.

Messi's net salary from Barcelona is said to be about 16m euros a year, making him one of the world's most highly-paid sportspeople. He has also signed multi-million-dollar endorsements with commercial sponsors around the world.

The player and his father, Jorge, are accused of three times defrauding the Spanish state of taxes. The income related to his image rights included contracts with Banco Sabadell, Danone, Adidas, Pepsi-Cola, Proctor and Gamble and the Kuwait Food Company.

If he is convicted, Messi could face up to six years in prison and a big fine, according to Spain's Efe news agency. He wrote on his Facebook page, after the allegations became known last week: "We have never committed any infringement. We have always fulfilled all our tax obligations."

Messi's achievements on the field have made him one of the most marketable in the business. He came from a modest background and has overcome a serious health issue, joining Barcelona as a 13-year-old in 2000 and making his first-team debut only three years later.

He was ranked 10th among Forbes' list of sports stars' incomes this month. The president of Barcelona FC, Sandro Rosell, has said the club has no doubt that the superstar is innocent of tax avoidance.

Messi is due to play a prominent role in the Adidas World Cup marketing campaign. Adidas CEO Herbert Hainer told reporters that the company "will continue to work with Lionel. He's the best football player in the world and we are happy that we have him".

But the allegations are a big blow to the prestige of Messi, who has long been seen as a more humble figure than most top-class footballers.

If this was Ronaldo I would care and hate him for it and presume his guilt.

As it is Messi I await for him to be cleared and have no ill feeling towards him.

If Ronaldo didn't exist then I don't think I'd like Messi as much as a person. It's all in the contrast of character.

Basically I blame Ronaldo for highlighting my own hypocrisy. A terrible person he is.

Gary Lineker: Premier League disregards England best interests

Former England captain Gary Lineker has accused the Premier League of having a "disregard for the best interests" of the national team.

The Match of the Day presenter believes the top-flight schedule does not help England manager Roy Hodgson. Liverpool host Manchester United and Arsenal play Spurs on the weekend of 31 August-1 September, just days before England face Moldova and Ukraine.

Lineker, 52, wrote on Twitter: "Never help ourselves!"

In response to some fans indicating they do not care about the national team, he added: "I guess this justifies the Premier League's disregard for the best interests of England."

The games at Anfield and the Emirates could be played on Sunday, 1 September for live television coverage.

But former Tottenham striker Lineker, who scored 48 goals in 80 international matches, added: "Onus now on Sky and BT Sport to do the right thing and leave the games on Saturday. Time to put the nation's interests before their own."

The Premier League declined to comment.

Despite the scheduling, England players will have five days' preparation - one more than Fifa regulations require - for the game against Moldova at Wembley on 6 September. They then face Ukraine in Kiev on 10 September.

National newspapers reported Hodgson was angry that big domestic matches have been scheduled so close to crucial World Cup qualifiers. The Football Association declined to comment, but it is understood no formal request was made regarding fixtures, although the issue was discussed at a meeting.

Hodgson could have as many as 20 members of his squad on duty at Anfield and the Emirates. The list of possible England candidates includes Liverpool's Steven Gerrard, Glen Johnson and Daniel Sturridge, while Manchester United's contingent includes Wayne Rooney, Phil Jones, Tom Cleverley, Ashley Young, Chris Smalling, Danny Welbeck and Michael Carrick.

In the north London derby, Arsenal's Jack Wilshere, Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Kieran Gibbs, plus Spurs' Kyle Walker, Scott Parker, Michael Dawson, Aaron Lennon and Jermain Defoe are all potential call-ups.

England are second in their World Cup qualifying group, two points behind leaders Montenegro, who have played a game more, while Ukraine are a point further back having played the same amount of games.

Hodgson's men conclude their campaign with home games against Montenegro on 11 October and Poland four days later.

If they finish runners-up in the group, they face a qualifying play-off that will take place on 15 and 19 November - preceded by a Premier League game between Manchester United and Arsenal.
