^once again, i am completely disappointed in the judging. nastia should have had that gold, and the tiebreaker should NOT be left up to computer software! if you refuse to give two golds, fine, but have them do a tiebreaker routine! don't make a computer round off decimal places; that's just ridiculous

beth did do remarkably well, i thought; i thought she should have come in 4th.

balance beam tomorrow; i'm rooting for shawn johnson because she still needs her gold :D

We got the silver in the Tri!! I know Simon wanted the gold, but a medal's better than no medal!! Go CANADA!!:D

Hmm... lucky you to have a big country and win a lot of medals.

My country only have one silver :( But, it's much better than Athens and Sydney, where we got nothing!!

^We've got 10, so far. And only 1 of them is gold...people had much higher expectations from our athletes here, lol. We went so long without one this time that some of us would have felt luck to get one, lol.

Yeah, that silver for Malasya was pretty cool. Congrats!:D

It comes down to budget, I think, and much as Canadian fans love and support our athletes, there's not much financial backing for them. Probably better than in your country, but not as good as the US...or China. The countries who spend the most on their athletes will usually do the best (unless it's a country who threatens the lives and families of its athletes. They'll do well too, but sadly, for VERY different reasons...probably a topic for another thread...).

^The look on Simon's face when the German passed him was like "UGH! I don't have anymore to give',lol. You guys earned the gold! Great race though!:D

Yeah, I only saw the finish too, but the German (sorry, I don't want to try spelling his name, lol) put out a HUGE burst of energy right at the end. My heart broke a little, but a good finish is a good finish.:))

they have to change the scoring process in gymnastics, its absurd:rolleyes:

gymnastics wasn't that wrong this time. Chinese started from an higher score....so it wasn't hard to defeat others...Yesterday has been a scandal.....

how did the american and chinese tie on the uneven parrallel bars and the chinese won? im confused. they had the same score, was there a higher degree of difficulty?

no, the difficulty ties in to the original score, by what I hear they rounded up a smaller decimal.

Wow I'm happy for weightlifter Steiner that he just won gold. In the award ceremony he showed a picture of his wife who sadly passed away. :(

so, seriously: Why do some people on here think this guy is hot?:uhoh:

even the weightlifter Steiner is hotter than him:wink3:

hm ok not really but he is close...:laugh4:

:P

^it's hard to explain, really . i must say that i found him more attractive back in 2004, but he's just like...geekily lovable. i don't know if i'd personally use the word hot, but i think he's just cute. he's also polite and humble and nice...not to mention a total BAMF in the pool :P

(that's also not a very good pic of him, i don't think...he looks a bit more toolish when he's smiling like that)

i think the rest of the world is asking the same question. to my knowledge, basically nastia liukin and the chinese girl got the same score, making it a tie. but because there are new scoring rules, rather than awarding two gold medals or even having some sort of tiebreaker routine, the judges plug the two scores into computer software and the computer extends the score to more and more decimal points until a difference is found. the chinese girl won by something like one ten-thousandth of a point or something crazy like that. i really hate this new judging system, and the judges are also pretty incompetent.

I totally agree with you. I don't think he's really exactly hot but he's definitely cute and that geekyness makes him even cuter!

Yeah and he totally deserved it! :nice: The interview on ARD was very emotional afterwards. He said his wife died in a car accident last year and he promised her a gold medal in Beijing. She must be very proud of him now.

I didn't get to actually see the event live until just now on nbcolympics.com...

The tie-breaker is absurd! The chinese girl wins because her lowest score is lower than nastia's lowest score, where's the sense in that? the chinese win because nastia had a 9 and not an 8.9? if they went ahead and took the two next highest numbers... Luikin would've won! It's illogical and unfair, what idiot came up with system!!!! they show it here http://www.nbcolympics.com/video/player.html?assetid=0818_hd_gaw_hl_l1721&channelcode=sportga
