I've not heard anything yet, but to be fair the deadline was 31st July, so I've not really got any grounds for complaining!

1. Is this Supergrass. I don’t really know them very well and I’ve been meaning to listen to them for ages. I was ok on first listen, maybe I’ll need to listen a few times to really get into it.

2. I really like this a lot. Reminded me a bit of Tegan and Sara. Good, short 3 minute pop-song, catchy, nice music. The singer has a cool voice too. I’ll have to check this band out some more for sure.

3. Nice melody, but might be a bit of a grower. It didn’t really grab me, but it was a pleasant song, nice voice and nice instrumentation. Reminded me of The Feeling.

4. This is Yael Naim! I’ve heard bits of this song a few times, and on a car advert too I think, but never heard it all the way through. I really love this. I can’t really compare it to anything else. Her voice is really lovely and interesting, it’s a good quirky song. I’ll definitely be checking out some more of her music! The wind instruments give it a nice feel towards the end too, and the piano sounds really nice too.

5. Pleasant song, but didn’t really get me excited.

6. Nice bass-line and guitar intro. I quite liked this, the singer’s voice was calm and understated and smooth. I really liked the simple drum pattern too. I’d really like to know who this band is so I can check them out some more.

7. The guitar reminded me a bit of Coldplay actually; anthemic, chiming sound and then edgy at the chorus. Cool voice too. I’d like to hear some more of this.

8. Didn’t really do anything for me.

9. I really like the beat/handclaps and the strings. I don’t know what language she is singing in, but I like it, very sexy! Who is she? Really catchy, has a motown vibe to it, which is very cool. Makes me think of sun, summer and dancing. I love this!

10. This was an instrumental track. It was a bit ‘heavier’ than what I usually listen to. Went along at a hectic pace with loads of distorted guitars.

11. I don’t know what language this was in. It kind of passed me by. He rools his ‘R’s very nicely though!

12. This is Muse by the sound of it. I don’t recognise this track. I’m only familiar with Black Holes & Revelations but they are on my list of bands to listen to more. Again this was a bit heavier than what I’m used to and I’m yet to really dig that kind of music, but I quite liked it all the same.

13. The guitar riffs were nice, but I couldn’t really get into it.

14. This was some band singing All My Loving by The Beatles. It was a pleasant enough version, but it just doesn’t touch the original at all. It could be any band singing it, there was no emotion in the singers voice and they didn’t seem to add any of their own style to it.

15. “You’re such an asshole when you’re drunk” – I can relate to those lyrics :P I liked the references to Jesus too. I liked the strings and the synths and the vintage piano sounds. Really good song. I’d like to hear some more of this band’s music.

Great!

Crazyduckette, Your mixtape-maker(lol) received a message that the deadline is close to send it in.

I hope he/she will send it in fast! ;)

I will post a review of mine sometime within the next few days. I've just been on vacation/busy for a few weeks.

My review....... :)

1. ELO, Mr.Blue Sky.... I recognised it! It's a great song, really uplifting and just makes me think of good times for some reason. A great song to start with. :)

2. Guillemots....Made Up Love Song number something-or-other... I LOVE this song...I play it really loud. It was a slightly different version to the one I own....

.3. I don't know this one! I really like the melody though... quirky lyrics too, male voice contrasting with female voice... and the end is cool! Think this is my favourite new song from this mixtape. I love the guitar melodies, a lot! Look forward to finding out this one.

4. A great catchy, summery sounding song. I like it a lot on first impression. I feel like i recognise the chorus' lyrics from somewhere. It's quite punchy.

5. Soft.....lyrics a bit soppy...lol. I would have to be in the right mood to listen to this song the whole way through. On first listen, I thought perhaps it was Snow Patrol....then realised it wasn't their singer.... hmmmmm...I wonder who it is! Maybe it's Elbow or someone, they always have that joining together sing-along part at the end, haha! It's a bit too slow for me though.

6. I like the driving guitars on this one.. and the way the singer sings is interesting. Sounds quite angry, but I like it a lot! It made me think of 'The Enemy' a bit...hmmmm. Yeah...I like the singer's voice.

7. The voice is a bit whiney and emo, but I don't mind it so much as the song goes on. The voice sounds a tiny bit like Brian Molko of Placebo, although I know it's not him or that band. Not a bad song!

8.Sounds quite old....like 60's or 70's or something! Maybe just influenced by those decades? A bit too chirpy and happy for me...haha! I don't like the beat that much.

9. This is pleasant listening, but gets a bit boring for me after a while.

10. I like the piano a lot....sounds like an Australian female singing? I like it. The bridge/end bit is nice. It's pretty easy-going.

11. I recognise this one straight off, but can't remember the name!! and the band. I know Ive heard it recently....this is really annoying! This is a really classic song though, I seem to remember this being a big song. Its so catchy. The humorous lyrics are really funny!

12. I found this song annoying..... I happened to see it on tv....I guess the lyrics were kinda funny, but I think it's trying too hard....sorry! I like the bass though!

13.This sounds like music from a phone advert.... haha. not my thing really. It's nice enough to listen to.....but I don't like the clapping that much. the lyrics are a bit too lovey-dovey for me.

14. A cute little song to end the mixtape.....very raw sounding. I wonder who it is? Sounds kinda home made!

Overall, I liked most of the stuff on the mixtape! The guitar-driven music was right up my street, I really liked some of the songs near the beginning... Some of the music was a bit too acoustic / folk-y for me.

thanks for making it...I look forward to hearing which track is by who now! :nice:

Ha, so it was you who got my mixtape

Anyway, here's the list of the songs

1. Supergrass - Diamond Hoo Ha Man

I wanted to add this song simply because my favourite radio channel has played it a lot since the new album got released. I also love how energetic it is!

2. The Sounds - Seven Days a Week

The band is swedish and i,again, love how energetic the song is. Saw them live a month ago and i admire the singer :nice:

3. Stars - Reunion

This song was on one of Briggins' mixtapes and i find it nice and easy to listen to.

4. Yael Naim - New Soul

You were right, it indeed is Yael Naim. I really like her unique voice and the unordinary use of instruments too

5. Foo Fighters - Cold Day In The Sun

This songs sounds so much better live but i decided to add it anyway just 'cause this mixtape was supposed to go to a dude from the us and i wanted to see if he could recognise the band haha.

6. Mew - Special

Mew has been one of my favourite bands for a few years now. They're from Denmark and this is one of their biggest hits. I also like the guitars and the bass-line

7. Stars of Track and Field - Say Hello

I randomly downloaded their album 'cause someone had posted the link in the "other bands" thread and this song caught my attention right away.

8. Carpark North - Transparent

Another Danish band. I like the guitar intro and the singing too. This song makes me always sing along + i like the melancholic touch.

9. Veronica Maggio - Måndagsbarn

Again, heard this on radio and totally fell in love with her voice and the melody & the drumming. It's in Swedish by the way.

10. Placebo - Bullet Proof Cupid

I'm not insanely into Placebo's other songs but this song just KICKS ASS! I love this kind of istrumentals ah. I also wanted to show that placebo can sound a LOT different than what their "normal" songs sound like

11. Kent - Revolt III

I was actually a bit worried that the person who gets this mixtape might get totally annoyed by all these songs in swedish.. :P

So, a swedish band. They're quite big in scandinavia and i just simply like their sound.

12. Muse - Dead Star

I wanted to add a muse song on the mixtape and decided it should be a song that's not so widely known. I totally love the drumming here, especially in the beginning. I just always have to do some airdrumming when i'm listening to this song hah

13. Kashmir - Rocket Brothers

I had really hard time trying to decide which Kashmir song i should add.. Maybe another one would've been better after all.

But anyway, Kashmir is one of Denmark's most popular bands

14. This song is by Jim Sturgess and it was on "Across The Universe" soundtrack. I totally love him but i admit that it might be a bit hard to get into the song if you haven't seen the movie. It's surely not as good as the version by the beatles anyway! And to be honest, i actually was going to leave this song out but the mixtape would've been too short so it's kind of an extra song.

15. Bell X1 - Rocky Took A Lover

I actually downloaded their album because of an irish coldplayer recommended them a lot. I wanted the final song to be cheery and this surely is! Glad you liked it!

edit: oops, forgot to add the link. So here it is: http://sharebee.com/451d39b5

Ok so here we go, I’m about to press play… and GO!

1. Bongos…, piano chords, please let me try to introduce myself… it’s undoubtedly The Rolling Stones and Pleased to Meet You. Ha ha I love it. Great way to start a mix tape I think, plus it’s also a great song from a great band. Top marks!

2. Ooh it’s a ghostly reverbed version of our beloved Coldplay and Don’t Panic. Not heard this version before, but I like it. Kinda feels like it’s the same song in the background either being played backwards or faded in and out. Nice!

3. Guitar merges nicely with the last track; I always thought this song was very similar! Anyway it’s Snow Patrol and Shut Your Eyes from their last album. Very nice indeed. So with the clever intro song aside, are we now looking at a guitar driven themed mix tape??

4. Well so far it looks like we are, the unmistakable sound of the first few notes of R.E.M.s Everybody Hurts. Not a favourite of my fiancée’s but it’s lyrically beautiful I think. We can’t always be happy it’s ok to fall now and again. Stipes voice is crystal clear as well.

5. Ok now the tempo is back a bit more and the guitar sound of the mighty Foo Fighters! Love this song turn it up!! There goes my hero watch him as he goes, there goes my hero, he’s ordinary… Great song, great band – saw them live ( I think) last year, and this is always a great live favourite.

6. Ha ha and if the foos are that good live let’s have another one from them on the mix tape eh! Best of You – live! (Could be from the recent Wembley Gig perhaps?!) Still great song.

7. Again the beginning starts and sounds familiar and very similar to a foo fighters song.. But then the voice starts singing and I have no idea what it is. Sorry! Still it’s an Ok song I spose.

8. Rockier guitar sound and its Blink 182 and the classic All the small things. I always think of the videos for this lot. She left me roses by the stairs, surprises let me know she cares! Ha ha love that line!

9. Ooh! Piano and its only bloomin Cat Stephens singing Morning Has Broken! Lol Well I did not expect that after Blink! Still I actually like it, probably cos of all the twiddly piano bits in it to be fair.

10. Another Coldplay song (let’s face it as coldplay fans we couldn’t really complain about that could we! It’s 1.36 though, so any casual CP fan may not have heard this before. Strange that it’s showing as lasting 2m 07 secs tho eh! Lol

11. Hmm now another turn in direction – the muffled sound of the start of Daft Punks Around the World.. I like variety, and i'm intrigued what’s next!

12. And what we get is Lenny Kravitz and it ain’t over till it’s over! Interesting indeed! This mixtaper has got a nice wide range of music and it seems isn’t afraid to delve a bit for a good song!

13. Lmao! I love it now we’re going back to the eighdeeeees! I wanted to stick an 80’s song on my mix tape – anyway this is the sounds of Level 42! And Something about you I believe! Lol brilliant! As a child of the 80s this is no bad thing for me!

14. Hmm now it’s a guitar pop song that starts a bit like Van Morrison but I’m not sure at all what this is! Sounds a bit cheesy, radio friendly, ok I guess, but fairly forgettable.

15. Now I loved this version when they released it a couple of years ago – this is U2 and Mary J Blige. Fiancée hates it (and isn’t a U2 fan either funnily enough!) but I really like it – anyway it’s called One.

16. Another classic from the late 80s early 90s – simply red and stars! I remember dancing to this at a junior school disco! Bless! One song left what’s it going to be….

17. White Stripes and 7 Nation Army – a recent indie rock classic to finish of a very mixed mix tape!

Overall I really enjoyed that. Even though I knew a lot of the tracks it was varied and had a mix of many genres of music. I would say that the compiler has a similar age to mine (30ish) and is more than likely from the UK. Or i could be completely wrong!

Thanks very much!

Haha :D Thanx, and I'm not 30ish.. I am 20ish :P

Here is the song list:

1: Rolling Stones - Sympathy For The Devil

2: Coldplay - Don't Panic(Blue Room EP)

3: Snow Patrol - Shut Your Eyes

4: R.E.M - Everybody Hurts

5: Foo Fighters - My Hero

6: Foo Fighters - Best of You

7: AFI - Morning Star

8: Blink 182 - All The Small Things

9: Cat Stevens - Morning Has Broken

10: Coldplay - 1.36

11: Daft Punk - Around The World

12: Lenny Kravitz - It Aint Over Till It's Over

13: Level 42 - Something About You

14: Live - The River

15: U2 & Mary J Blige

16: Simply Red - Stars

17: The White Stripes - Seven Nation Army

Alright! Review time. Windows Media Player is ready and waiting. Here we go!

1. This is Supertramp, I'm sure of it. I think the song is called "Breakfast in America"? Good song though. The tuba and clarinets and such give this song a whole new level.

2. "Speed of Sound". Nice. :) People criticize this song for being too similar to "Clocks", but I love this song. Good choice!

3. Okay...interesting choice. An atmospheric organ intro that goes on for almost two minutes. Then it transitions into a neat section of bass, organ, and vocals. A neat song for sure, but goes on for too long, in my opinion (7:23). Sounds like Genesis, perhaps?

4. Softer. Acoustic guitar and vocals. I know this sounds weird, but I get the feeling that I read the lyrics for this song online somewhere and just couldn't put it with a song. Weird extended silence in the middle, then piano and organ continue the guitar melody. Cool song though.

5. Sharp synth intro. Sounds like the same band as Track 3. Neat mixing of time signatures; I'm a sucker for wacky time signature changes. If Muse or Coldplay ever release a song in 5/4, I'd probably melt. Six and a half minutes long.

6. Extended harmonica intro. Singer sounds kind of like the guy from Supertramp, but not identical. I can't really make heads or tails of who sings this song.

7. Ooh. Interesting. No idea what this song is called, or who sings it, but I recognize it as being the theme song for the TV show "House". Neat guitar distortion. The whole song sounds like it's being played off a wax record. It sounds really cool. I like it. :)

8. I recognized it at literally the first chord as being "Cemeteries of London" :). I LOVE this song, one of my favorites from Viva La Vida. Another fine choice, sir or madam!

9. Oh WOW! What a cool song!! (That's all I have to say about it. This is awesome; who is this?)

10. "Square One". Another one of my favorites from X&Y. Who made this tape? You know me too well. So far, there's only been like two or three songs I don't like that much.

11. "The Logical Song" by Supertramp. One I heard the first Supertramp song on this tape, I was really hoping that this song would make an appearance. Thanks for not letting me down. This is great! :) Awesome saxophone solo at the end.

12. Another Supertramp song, "Dreamer", I think it's called. Honestly would have never realized it was a Supertramp song if the other Supertramp songs weren't on here.

13. "Violet Hill". Another great Coldplay song. I have to listen to this song in moderation, though. I really overplayed it when it first came out. :P

14. "X&Y". ANOTHER great Coldplay song. What a completely underrated song.

15. Sounds like another song from the same person/people who did Track 9. This is fantastic! The opening chord progression is perfect! I really need to know who does these songs. They're great.

16. Interesting guitar part. Sounds kind of similar to Track 4, or possibly Track 6. Doesn't do a whole lot for me, but I do like it. It is, however, VERY LONG. Nearly eight minutes in length.

Overall, a great mixtape. There's only like 3 songs that I didn't like. Thank you very much!

My review....... :)

1. ELO, Mr.Blue Sky.... I recognised it! It's a great song, really uplifting and just makes me think of good times for some reason. A great song to start with. :)

thanks for making it...I look forward to hearing which track is by who now! :nice:

Ok so i'm pleased you mostly liked it crazyduckette. If you get outside and it's sunny i think it works quite well! Anyway that's what i was going for!

Here's the tracklisting and a quick explanation of why i chose the song.

1. ELO - Mr Blue Sky

A real classic, one of my all time favourite songs, just so up and summer-y.

2. Guillemots - Made Up Love Song #43

A personal favourite of mine and my now fiancees - we kinda fell in love around the time of this song so it's got lots of nice memories.

3. Black Kids - Partie Traumatic

Great new band, love this album - bags of energy, great tunes - buy the album (called the same btw!)

4. Mystery Jets (ft Laura Marling) - Young Love

Heard this on the radio loads a few months back, again a really summery sounding song.

5. Vega 4 - Life Is Beautiful

Sorry about this! I'm a sucker for a sort of ballad-esque anthem - reminded me a lot of snow patrol when i first heard it, and i really like Snow Patrol!

6. Sunshine Underground - Commercial Breakdown

Something from a few years back, bought the album off the back of hearing this song when it was played by Zane Lowe and it was a pretty good purchase! Good bass and drums - very catchy!

7. Tokyo Police Club - Tessellate

You're right about the Placebo or Brian Molko -esque sound. Heard it on Colin Murray's show couple of months back and i really liked it a lot.

8. The Weepies - All This Beauty

Not sure why i picked this, cute summer soung i guess. I have a big secret - i'm a closet O.C fan and this song reminded me of the show.. plus it fitted with my summer mixtape theme.

9. Death Cab For Cutie - Your Heart Is An Empty Room

Another band that reminded me of the O.C plus its a nice song - well i like it! ha ha

10. Missy Higgins - The River

Love this song, i really love the fact that Missy was told to drop her ozzie accent by the record label - and instead of that she made it even more pronounced on the songs. Also love any piano sounding song really.

11. Ben Folds - Rockin' The Suburbs

And if you mention piano, you have to mention Ben Folds in the same sentence. Even though this is a Ben Folds with a twist, not much (if any) piano and it's a guitar driven rock out! Love it! Brilliant lyrics as well, as crazyduckette pointed out! Oh and i can't wait for the new album either!

12. Ida Maria - I Like You So Much Better When You're Naked

I know its a bit cheesy and played way too much at the moment, but its a cute 3 minute song, that when i hear it will always remind me of summer 08!

13. Noah & The Whale - 5 Years Time

You can hear the sunshine in this song, which is ironic considering they're from London! Could be the UK version of Vampire Weekend! ooh now why didn't i put that in.. maybe next time!! lol

14. Michael Cera & Ellen Page - Anyone Else But You

I thought that when you used to do mixtapes for someone they were notoriously for people you faniced. This song is from Juno - incredible film if you haven't seen it. And is from the very last scene right before the credits roll, and is actually sung by the actors, which is why it has a rawness about it.

The End!

I'll remember to get a bit more guitar rockier songs in the next one, and also some surprises! as well!

Anyone who wants to download it here's the link.....

Sorry it was delayed - as i explained to Stephanbass i have been in for a op recently and haven't been able to do much. Still got it submitted by the skin of my teeth (just!)

Cheers! ;)

Haha :D Thanx, and I'm not 30ish.. I am 20ish :P

oops! Well i'm just 31! so hopefully that wasn't too offensive! lol

Oh! Don't worry about it being late.... hope the op went okay!

and thanks for the tape. I really enjoyed tracks 3 and 4 in particular, will be looking into those bands more in depth... and a lot of the others too.

The summery vibe definitely came across, and I liked the fact it had a kind of 'theme'.......

so......thanks! :nice:

Okay now, seeing that everybody's posted their review and sent their mixtapes, I'm closing this mixtape exchange. I'll post the list of mixtape makers and links to their mixes so everyone can download them. :)

I'll re-post my review in a bit.
