Ask the Oracle on Coldplay.com (Now in session!)

Featured Replies

I think ALL Coldplay fans are called Coldplayers not just the forum people. Others examples are:

--The Victims (fans of the Killers)

-- Little Monsters (gaga)

-- Beliebers, Katy cats etc...

If you're not a Coldplay fan, I highly doubt that you know who or what The Oracle is.

I think saying that the song is poorly written is even worse than having an issue with the new sound.

  • I can't give you the reasonings on why things changed, but I can give you an update from what I observed. The Oracle was run by Debs Wild. Debs is still with the band and helps out fans, for exam

I'd also complain about the Oracle, who is actually completely avoiding the question this time.

first of all,the OP never said that he didnt like the song.He just said that he thought Coldplay had help writing the song and is this a new thing they will be doing..

And the Oracle answered the question..And who do you want to complain to,about the Oracle

I agree. I'm getting really tired of people berating the band over one 4-minute release that they don't like.

But your britches back on (or change them if they've been soiled) and wait for the next release/LP5. Then judge away.

Coldplay, like a normal human being, will grow and evolve. Viva was a pretty big step, and when I heard "Violet Hill," I was disappointed. But I heard the rest of the album and loved it.

Bottom line: If you hate the new Coldplay (and judged them this early in the post-Viva era), cool! But I don't. And constantly berating them (via the internet, a poor medium) isn't going to change my mind.

I wouldn't complaint about the Oracle.

Its a forum for people to ask all sorts of random questions and we get some cool answers. Ok so sometimes the answers are evasive but I imagine there are a lot of legal minefields that need to be avoided as well as not ruining suprises etc.

The Oracle can't win - answer questions evasively and you're not being fair. Don't answer any questions on a particualr subject and you're covering it up.

If we complain too much, then we might find that the Coldplay Family decide to withdraw the Oracle service. They don't have to interact with the fans in this way.

^Yeah, it's kind of weird to start blaming the oracle for being evasive, because the Oracle is here for us because the band thought it would be awesome if we could interact with them in such a way. It's a really nice thing, and the Oracle gets loads and loads and loads of questions so it's a lot of work too, let's just be thankful for what they do.

You know what I dislike about your points? You seem to be one of the people who would like a Coldplay song even if it was 5 minutes of farting. I can't understand why some of you people cannot understand that some fans do NOT like ETIAW - it is a fact, just like a fact is that the song is not original. And the argument about being limited with instruments and notes - I am sorry, but it is plain stupid. Cause if that it is the case, you wouldn't have any of the brilliant music in the world today, counting Coldplay's music. And for God's sake - don't be so extreme as to say that you are not a true Coldplayer if you don't like this song. As for your Parachutes argument - I agree. But the rest...sorry,but no.

THIS

JEEEZZZ That Daniel guy must been drinking when he wrote that! I feel way better now!:laugh3:

There are few Coldplay songs that I don't like but I will say that I love 90% of their songs.

I respect that someone might not like ETIAW but seeing people judging them so early in the album promo made me sick.

There are lots of songs from others artists that I don't like but I don't dismiss them. I get it people like different stuffs, it's Nature.

fixed it for you

^^^^^^ I 00% AGREE WITH UUUUUUUUU :smug:

Ditto.:smug:

I'm so tired of people fighting about ETIAW. Come on, just accept that some people like it, and some don't. It's just a song.

I wouldn't complaint about the Oracle.

I agree. It's the same as when a minority were whinging about what happened on the boat trip. It's a pity that some people are never satisfied.:(

I guess you're all right. I hereby swallow my complaint.

Anything that reminds me of Every Teardrop seems to activate a zone in my brain that makes me fill this forum with complaints and rants. I usually regret later. Just hit me when you see me doing that again.

I wouldn't do that, because I'm a pacifist.:smug:

I could give a big bad blow to someone

Yossarian I'll look in the lounge

That thread was a bit harsh o_o

As for the song I dont see anything wrong with it. Sure Coldplay had to borrow the chord progression for the song but Coldplay was trying something new. They wanted to venture out. Now if you hate ETIAW but dont have the new songs, well focus on whats coming up o_o

Q. Hello, Oracle!

At their more recent festival shows, Coldplay has what it seems to be improvised Gene Kelly's Singing in the Rain. Even though it's only played for hardly a minute, it is so absolutely beautiful! Do you think that there's any chance that one day they'll record it?

Have a lovely day!

Sara

The Oracle replies:

Nah, that all started as an impromptu response to the weather and so now whenever it rains, they do a short rendition of it.

Q. Dear Oracle,

I've noticed that Coldplay have not performed what in my opinion is one of their best live songs, Lovers in Japan, for their past few gigs (eg. Rock am Ring, Pinkpop), so I was just wondering, is it coz there can no longer be the massive rain of paper butterflies onto the audience anymore since they're playing open-air festivals now, so they decided to cut the song from their set list? Please bring the song back Coldplay, I absolutely love it!

The Oracle replies:

I'm assuming that you watched clips online because there IS confetti on the festival tour. I won't say which song in case it spoils it for others who are going to see them.

Also, just to point out that Lovers in Japan obviously isn't dependant on a confetti drop; I mean it could still be played without confetti!

If my memory serves me correctly, during the first Viva dates there was no confetti during the song but Viva la Vida had red, white and blue confetti.
