July 26, 200817 yr Ok, having researched it before (Tim Rice-Oxley himself even posted about it on the Keene boards before when the story was first going around) as I understand it Chris Martin and the Coldplay guys went to college with both Tim Crompton and Tim Rice-Oxley, and Chris was friends with both of them. Both Tims had their own bands: Coldplay and Cherry Keane (later just Keane) respectively. When Coldplay decided their name (from a book of poetry) was too depressing Chris asked TC if he could use it for his band. At some point in time Chris had also asked TR-O to come play keyboards with him, but that Tim said he preferred to stick with his current band (wise choice it turned out). Because they are both named Tim, lazy journalists frequently assume that the two Tims are the same person, even though they aren't. It makes for a better story, but just proves the journalists are lazy. Clear as mud? :P It's absolutely clear, thanks! :)
