I think it is extremely cool that they really officially consider Phil a fifth member and even really want the world to know it! From now on it's Chris, Jonny, Guy, Will and Phil!

And I always thought that it really was Keanes drummer who came up with the name Coldplay! Who is this Tim Crompton guy?

Interesting message from this Anchorman.

The band name came from one of their room mates...Will's room mate I think.

I thought tim-rice oxley was keane's pianist? not their drummer. :inquisitive:

if they'd just give us some more news from official coldplay sources we wouldn't make these fuck-ups.....

Incidentally, I'm scottish, incase that wasn't obvious. Goat ma Irn Bru n' deep fried marsbar oan the go...

goat's are brewing deep fried mars bars?

who the hell is Tim Crompton?

He may be the guy who Chris mentions on the Rolling Stone interview (The Jesus of uncool):

On the first single, "Violet Hill," you sing about a fox becoming a god and a "carnival of idiots on show." Was the song inspired by Fox News?

No one's got that before, no one in the band, no one. The first line in that song is the first line of any song we ever wrote. Years ago, when Guy [berryman, bassist] heard that first line and that first little melody — "It was a long and dark December" — he said, "OK, I'll join the band." But we just didn't have the other 49 lines until last year. And then one day I was watching Bill O'Reilly, and I was like, "I know how to finish that song."

My best friend, Tim, he's a musician in a band called the High Wire, but he also has to work in a bar. He was having trouble with his boss, and it made me think that so many people spend their lives being told what to do by people that they just don't like. So it was that idea, and watching Bill O'Reilly, and all these words just came out.

They spies of us! :-)

Anyway, maybe they want to fix the mistakes in order to give you the most correct infos via Wikipedia...but...they could talk with someone who probably would have had the opportunity to write all these info by himself...

Yeah, Tim is the keyboardist. Richard (I never remember his surname) is the drummer. And I actually thought it was that Tim who came out with the name "Coldplay"; I even remember that someone on TV talking about that story and Tim could've become Coldplay member as well Oo'

Ok, having researched it before (Tim Rice-Oxley himself even posted about it on the Keene boards before when the story was first going around) as I understand it Chris Martin and the Coldplay guys went to college with both Tim Crompton and Tim Rice-Oxley, and Chris was friends with both of them. Both Tims had their own bands: Coldplay and Cherry Keane (later just Keane) respectively. When Coldplay decided their name (from a book of poetry) was too depressing Chris asked TC if he could use it for his band. At some point in time Chris had also asked TR-O to come play keyboards with him, but that Tim said he preferred to stick with his current band (wise choice it turned out).

Because they are both named Tim, lazy journalists frequently assume that the two Tims are the same person, even though they aren't. It makes for a better story, but just proves the journalists are lazy.

Clear as mud? :P

Isn't that an oxymoron??
