Georgian army moves to retake South Ossetia

Featured Replies

I said supposedly. We do not know exactely who starded the fire.. Separatis are the option as well

i live in Tbilisi and have been to Gori and seen what's happening there. besides my friends were in conflic zone, fighting but not in the front line.

The patience of Russia had finished go and invade Ukraine now.. it might be the next target.

I don't support it either. We Russians and Georgians , common ppl always had good and friendly relationship, but sadly Russian politics've been agressive in the past and left deep scars.

As for Mr Saakashvili....Russia has no right to order him to go. It's our job. Peronally i voted against him.

I hope i won't have to fight....but if it'll be for the independence of my country....then i'll fight till the last drop of my blood.

oooyes and i have a sattelite and all the Russian programs are availlabe. Do you have RTVI?

Russia felt the same way about most of europe as they do south ossetia, a part of their empire. Remember what happened to the nations in their last empire? THey all suffered horribly, and wanted out.

Russia likes to control every nation it can, kinda like America. Russia and America are very similar but at least we treat our nations around us better.

An American mercenary has been captured by Russian forces along with a number of Georgian soldiers according to a report from the Russian news website Izvestia, providing more evidence that the U.S. and NATO are covertly supporting the Georgian army in a proxy war with Russia.

No doubt about that. American troops help train Georgian troops. American presidents and elected officials like Barack and McCain have no right to speak out on this because of what our nations does to other countries. We've done the same thing Russia is doing now. I however for the sake of Western Europe will say they're in huge trouble when the soviet moster rises again and they've burned every bridge and fall under control of Russia.

In Europe's hatred for America, they're willing to fall into the arms of the next version of the soviet Union, at least America treats its citizens better and other nations better then the soviets did. All I can say in the next 50 years Europe will be wishing it made a better decision and not one based on childish hatred for one nation.

A good time to move away from fossil fuels if ever there was one! Looking at the dangers of control in the hands of a few, it's clear that to be so resource dependent on a limited number of resources is very risky, and there is no better time than the present to make the change. Countries like Russia have a cyclic tendency in "leadership" - and unless the cycle is broken, this is the result. And concentrated power, be it in the hands of one empire or another, is dangerous to those living on the fringes of empire, for they're treated as pawns in some larger geo-political struggle. So often the modern way is to use the military as an offensive weapon, rather than a defense against invasion by belligerents - Georgians should be free from outside influences as much as is possible, but from the given situation, Georgia needs alliances against the old-thinking Russian oligarchs.

But I wouldn't say Europe hates the US, just dislikes a certain attitude of aggressive war without first using diplomacy and/or containment - which I'm appalled at as well. We lost the moral high-ground with this aggressive behavior, and so Europeans have a legitimate gripe with US Foreign policy. But to repair the damage takes time, and trouble in Georgia is one example where we must all work together to block something even worse - namely, power brokers that want to use extortion to extract control, money, and influence.

And, no more policy of appeasement either. When extortion is allowed to go on, it creates the sort of encouragement that can lead to more of the same bad behavior; so finding the answer requires both diplomacy and blocking the advances of a bully. Europe needs to be more active in this endeavor..

I think most of Europe hates the U.S. more then any other nation and its quite clear that they do from their leaders to the actions of their citizens. Most Eastern European nations who suffered and are still suffering because of Russia, they love America because they've tasted Russian power and know its the bigger evil when compared to America. Western Europe has forgeten we've been quite kind to them, something Russia never is. When they fall in line with Russia out of hatred for America they'll get what they deserve.

Now I'm not saying we didn't play a part in their hatred, our horrible foreign policy is a big part of the world hating us but not the only.

No I havent got RTVI

Whats new from Georgia?

Too bad, cause RTVI is probably the only objective russian programme.

Good news is that the bombing has stopeed, at least for now

Bad news Russian army is still in Gori. Separatist are robbing ppl in Gori and villages close to it, several ma are killed and there was a report about several hostages, but i do not have more informtiona about the latter.

This seems totally like a revenge for Kosovo's independence supported by "everybody" in the western world.

:(

Hope this gets solved soon... global stability looks so weak sometimes...

I don't think that you can have a non-biased opinion on this...

You are just saying "I live here - I am right - Russian media is lying" but you don't know exactly how this started.

And if I was you I think I might hold the same position. This is the desired split and you are a part of it.

I agree... this is just another result of the fragile stability the world has experienced since the cold war. Power struggle between Russia and the western world is another sign of arrogance... Georgia is just an excuse to this.

Both sides are responsible for this, like the German cancellor stated lately... BUT many people is dying, losing their homes, the Russian army has been using cluster bombs banned by the international community, wtf?

Can't they just start TALKING??

No, war is a very bad thing. Which is why more states need nukes - it prevents bigger states from invading smaller states. Russia wouldn't invade Georgia if they feared a nuclear retaliation.

that's fuck'ng terrible, how come some ppl think like this  ... no one should have freaking nukes, and if every country had nuclear power, the biggest countries would still be developing more powerful and dangerous weapons... (biological for eaxmple) all coming closer to a global terrible conflict and getting closer to the end of the mankind.

BUT many people is dying, losing their homes, the Russian army has been using cluster bombs banned by the international community, wtf?

This was said by the Georgian president in a public meeting with Mss Rice, I just saw it on tv.

He can say everything what Bush wants to hear:angry:

:laugh3:

I know this isn't supposed to be a funny thread, but that just goes to show how clueless some people are over here. Oprah did a show last week on USA's education system and not one of the American kids could name 5 American presidents, whereas the non-American kids did. And we're the greatest country in the world? Maybe not in the future.

[/end off topic]

Russia keeps amazing me. Just now they destroyed railway bridge, that connects east and west Georgia.

Also forest in kaspi is on fire.

They dont allow anyone, including journalists in Gori, beacuse according to them they have an order from press administration of Medvedev.

In Samachablo, and that's the real name of Osseti, also live georgians , and thet are beeing kicked out.

Now if we forget all this who started topic, what kind of peacemaking is that? not to mention that the document about ceasefire has been signed days ago.

BBC Video Proves Georgia to Blame for Hostilities

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X1f0_hGSUwk

The BBC video here was aired two days before Russia intervened to stop Georgia’s ethnic cleansing operation in South Ossetia. It needs to be viewed by Bush, Condi, Robert Kagan, Charles Krauthammer, little Billy Kristol and all the neocons and their associated slavering bloggers and newspaper columnists calling for war against Russia, a nation bristling with thermonuclear weapons and an increasing desire to use the tactical variety of nukes against the United States, or rather its servile little clients such as Poland that are installing U.S. missile “defense systems” on Russia’s borders.

Forget neocon platitudes about the poor Georgians and their supposedly besieged “democracy” (i.e., their NED and CIA installed tinhorn dictatorship). As the video here demonstrates, the neocons support ethnic cleansers, butchers, snipers, child killers, and assorted psychopaths.

It really is quite amazing the BBC ran this report as it later put in extra duty to turn the entire event on its head and blame the Russians. So obvious are the outright lies and twisting of facts, the neocon propaganda outfit Sky News — owned by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation, sort of a UK version of Faux News — “used the footage of Tskhinvali, which was literally ruined as a result of Georgia’s attacks, to make reports about the situation in the town of Gori, which the Russian aviation supposedly bombed,” according to Pravda. “The footage aired by the British TV channel was preceded with a picture of a road sign displaying the name of the town – Gori – written in Georgian and English languages. The report also said that a Sky News correspondent was reporting from the Georgian town.” Disgusting, although we can of course expect no less, as the point is to demonize Russia no matter the cost or the affront to reality.

All of this brings to mind the Trnopolje concentration camp hoax used to demonize the Serbs and pave the way to later bomb them with depleted uranium and laser guided munitions. Recall this hoax consisted of a photograph shot by Penny Marshall of ITN of a Bosnian Muslim “prisoner” interned behind barbed wire. As it turns out, the so-called prisoner was outside the supposed internment camp. “What became the picture that Mike Jeremy of ITN pegged ‘one of the key images of the war in the former Yugoslavia,’ (qtd. in Deichmann, p. 170) was, in fact, presented as to the Western world as something it was not, a concentration camp. The focus was on Fikret Alic, who’s protruding rib cage behind a fence conjured up images of Nazi death camps. This ‘death camp’ was a crude, sick lie and Fikret Alic, who survived the war, was disturbed about the use of his image” (see the Balkan Repository Project, The Criminal Race: The Demonization, Dehumanization and Criminalization of the Serbian People, Erin S. LaPorte, December 22, 1999).

time-serb.jpg

Time Magazine, an integral part of the CIA’s Operation Mockingbird, attempted to portray the Serbs as Nazi monsters. As it turns out, the man pictured with protruding ribs, Bosnian Fikret Alic, was “disturbed about the use of his image” to sell the U.S. and NATO mass murder campaign against Serbia.

The corporate media tried to perpetuated a Trnopolje trick in regard to South Ossetia and Gori, but this crude effort has fallen flat on its face, thanks to the Russian media, far more sophisticated then its Serb equivalent (not that the Serbs had a chance — NATO sent a cruise missile into Belgrade’s main TV station on 23 April 1999, killing 16 civilians and shutting down any possibility of media coverage able to counter the corporate propaganda onslaught).

It would seem a large number of people, at least Russians on the internet, no longer accept unquestioningly the corporate media’s spin and increasingly transparent fabrications. In regard to a poll posted on CNN’s website, the Media Channel writes:

"Surprisingly, 92% of readers thought that the Russians were justified. Taking into account CNN’s boneheaded and overwhelmingly pro-Georgian coverage, the poll didn’t make any sense. Were sheepish CNN viewers actually using their brain? It didn’t seem likely. Well, the poll no longer appears on the site. It was taken down after charges of manipulation started surfacing. Apparently, Russian bloggers circulated the poll and called on Russians to let their voice be heard. And if there’s one thing CNN doesn’t like doing, it’s hearing what those damn Russkies have to say. CNN had no idea that this seemingly innocuous poll would demonstrate the huge rift in opinion between the West and Russia and underline the importance that information warfare has played in this conflict, not to mention show whom CNN was really rooting for."

Thanks to alternative news websites and bloggers, the corporate media no longer enjoys a monopoly in the information war. It is particularly sweet that the BBC’s own video may be posted on the internet, revealing that indeed the ethnic cleansers and thugs of the brutal little CIA created client state are responsible for the current situation, not Russia as the corporate media insists contrary to the facts.

i'm sorry but this video proofs nothing. I've heard and seen enought! From my friends who fought and soldiers in hospitals. Have you?

I'm sick of this and i think i won't be posting here anymore. I'm depressed and at the moment i'm completely broken.

Accusing Georgia in genocide is ridiculous cos 40,000 ossetian refugges ,plus other ossetans in different regions live peacefully in Georgia.

I aknowledge that both sides made mistake. Saakashvili is an idiot, yes i think so as well. But i know the history of my country better and the situation we are in now as well.

Anyway ... peace to everyone. Hope you'll never have to see what i saw
