the Georgians asked for a ceasefire but it remains to be seen whether or not the Russians will agree to it, right now they are pushing for an unconditional withdrawal of Georgian forces and are positioning the black sea fleet to support the Abkhazian separatists who are planning to enter this fight....i imagine by tomorrow Russia will be pressured into this ceasefire by international opinion, but if they dont....this could get very interesting

Do you think Russia would take the UK seriously?, they didn't over Litvenkos killers and the diplomatic fallout there, Russia doesn't view us as a superpower and rightly so as really were not-more a bad joke really, our military are overstretched, underfunded and badly treated it's a disgrace that the current government treats the brave men and women who fight for our country with such contempt.

 

Personally I agree with Russia on the situation with Georgia, they are protecting Russian citizens and some of thier peacekeepers were killed, Georgia are pretty idiotic to pick a fight with a country like Russia in my opinion.

 

Well I meant the USA, but either state could do it. Threatening the nuclear annihilation of one of your major cities has a certain humbling effect... even on a state like Russia. Who cares how underfunded your military is? Nukes are cheap.

Georgia was backed by the US and Israel. (secret military - not the people of those countries - because some people don't get that most governments are corrupt). Israel have supplied arms for many years.
