oh lore, you're so smart, you put it in the first post!

Dear Guy, Jonny, Will, and Chris,

As multilingual, multinational members of the fansite coldplaying.com, several of us got together one night to think of how we could express our thanks to you for giving us the best music we have ever heard and for making 2008 the best year to date in Coldplay history. Of course, there is no way we could thank you enough for all that you have given us throughout the years: the music, the concerts, your innate senses of humor, your constant attention to your fans, the international causes to care for, and upstanding people to look up to and emulate. Each person’s reason for being a Coldplay fan is unique and personal and cannot be covered with broad, blanket statements in a letter such as this one. This is why we’ve decided to organize ourselves into a mass-movement of postcard-sending: for each coldplaying.com member to personally say thank you for everything you have done and the lives you have touched and changed throughout the years. Thus, the Postcards From Far Away Project was born.

Many of us live very far away from your home base of England, while others of us live practically in your backyard. Wherever Coldplay fans live and whatever languages they speak, something every one of us could do was drop a postcard in the post with a short message in any language expressing our thanks for everything you have given us and your undying attention and generosity in 2008 in particular. We assume that you get bagfuls of mail every day, but we hoped that under the umbrella of a united project, our short messages of thanks from every corner of the globe would take on a greater meaning and express how much your music and your actions have meant to us throughout the years in a bigger way. At the least, we hope you’re aware of a tidal wave of increase in your fan mail, and at the most, we hope you’re able to read some of them and take their notes to heart.

Our Project is a small effort to give back in a small way for all that you have given us, especially this year. No matter how many thousands of postcards we could send in, you have given us the greater gift of your music and by spoiling us rotten in 2008 with practically two albums of new material, a regularly and personally updated website, touring the world over, and still having the time to sign autographs and take photo after photo with the fans who wait for you outside hotels and concert venues. We’d also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to your crew and management, in particular Roadie #42, the Oracle, Prospekt, Anchorman, and Debs. We are all very glad that we were rabid Coldplay fans in 2008, because no other band could have given us the amount of attention and information that you gave, and no other band would have kept us in such anticipation.

still needs a bit of an ending, though. i can work on it, but i really suck at endings :P

That's a great letter!!!! You have a great way of expressing yourself, concisely and eloquently. I suck, you wanna write my postcard for me??:laugh3:

(Just writing the previous sentence took me a minute to think about! And it's not that I don't know the words, but it's a skill/talent to be able to put them together well hehehe) So YEAY for you lol

I just wanna take a sec here to say that you guys who have put this together from beginning, and now supporting the project in various ways--organizing, designing, suggesting various ideas about how to get postcards to Coldplay, how to contact/thank Debs, how to advertise the project, etc etc etc...

YOU ARE AWESOME!!!:flutterby::heart::flutterby:

This is such wonderful idea, directed at such a wonderful band...all the good vibes around here are so great&infectious. This will keep the Coldplay Karma going for everyone :D:dance:!!

For someone like me who's a huge fan, but not so creative or anything, this is a great way to show our appreciation to the guys; without this project I'd probably never do anything like this..

So BIG THANKS AND GOOD JOB!!!!:clap:

Chelsea, I love the letter. You need to tell Debs to expect the letter and to make sure the guys read that first, then start wading through the postcards.

As for an ending - how about a Coldplay quote?

We live in a beautiful world

you are so awesome :bigcry:

and thanks, alison and noelia! :D. i've been trying to write a good ending for the letter in my head, but i'm trying to make it not so sappy and not so repetitive. i'm trying

I would help you but writing in english is not my thing :P

haha, lore, you're so much better than you think you are. and no worries, i'll figure it out. i'm open to suggestions, though, like alison's one about using a lyric quote :D

The banners are great. I saw the flash banner too. Fantastic!

EDIT: Just added the banner to my sig

maybe we should add all the lovely roadies to the list of people that we're saying thanks to

in the letter, you mean? if it's not already in there, i'm a :dunce: for not putting it in! especially after they were so nice to me personally in NJ!

i can't wait to see that banner at the top of the site :D. i figure ian won't put it up until we have an address, though. should be what, 5 days now? :cheesy:

  • Author

the address is coming

probably we should end the letter saying that we hope that they'll have a great 2009 in all the possible aspects or something like that...

and then sign it and the lyric

good idea!

i was thinking about encorporating the lyric IN the letter, though, saying something like "your music reminds us that we live in a beautiful world, and we hope our postcards remind you of the same" but hopefully not too cheesy.

Ahh I really like this! :cheesy: I wonder if you could fit it in somewhere, I think its great :D

you think? i think it's a bit...violently cheesy . i've fit it in, though. i'll post the updated letter with ending in a minute, and people can tell me what they think. lore and i are planning to send one copy addressed to debs and one copy addressed to the band basically the second we get the address :D

  • Author

it's a bit chessy but it might look good if we use the lyric in a good phrase

ooh nice, I think they'll both be touched by your letter, its fab :D

Ahh I love how far this project has come, and its nearly ready to be finally unleashed!

Semy, I just stole a banner :P

i think any phrase using a lyric will be somewhat cheesy, at least if i write it. for now i have that one in there because this letter needs to be done and ready to go even sooner than the postcards. if anyone else has a specific suggestion, i'm all ears :ears:

i just hope to god that debs gives us the address on the 21st. if she waits too much longer, we're screwed.

Semy your artwork for this is beautiful! :D

Aww Lore I love your new avi! :D

the banners, the wallpaper and the flash are really great!

still needs a bit of an ending, though. i can work on it, but i really suck at endings :P
