ok, updated letter, complete with shite ending :P

the last line, "we hope you enjoy our postcards," is especially crap. the entire thing is written in borderline elevated diction, and then there's that :P.

i also fixed some minor grammar things. tell me if you see any others :D

Dear Guy, Jonny, Will, and Chris,

As multilingual, multinational members of the fansite Coldplaying.com, several of us got together one night to think of how we could express our thanks to you for giving us the best music we have ever heard and for making 2008 the best year to date in Coldplay history. Of course, there is no way we could thank you enough for all that you have given us throughout the years: the music, the concerts, your innate senses of humor, your constant attention to your fans, the international causes to care for, and upstanding people to look up to and emulate. Each person’s reason for being a Coldplay fan is unique and personal and cannot be covered with broad, blanket statements in a letter such as this one. This is why we’ve decided to organize ourselves into a mass-movement of postcard-sending: for each coldplaying.com member to personally say thank you for everything you have done and the lives you have touched and changed throughout the years. Thus, the Postcards From Far Away Project was born.

Many of us live very far away from your home base of England, while others of us live practically in your backyard. Wherever Coldplay fans live and whatever languages they speak, something every one of us could do was drop a postcard in the post with a short message in any language sharing a personal Coldplay experience. We assume that you get bagfuls of mail every day, but we hoped that under the umbrella of a united project, our short messages of thanks from every corner of the globe would take on a greater meaning and express how much your music and your actions have meant to us throughout the years in a bigger way. At the least, we hope you’re aware of a tidal wave of increase in your fan mail, and at the most, we hope you’re able to read them and take their notes to heart.

Our Project is a small effort to give back in a small way for all that you have given us, especially this year. No matter how many thousands of postcards we could send in, you have given us the greater gift of your music and by spoiling us rotten in 2008 with practically two albums of new material, a regularly and personally updated website, a worldwide tour, and the time to sign autographs and take photo after photo with the fans who wait for you outside hotels and concert venues. We’d also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to your crew and management, in particular Roadie #42, the Oracle, Prospekt, Anchorman, all of your roadies and crewmembers, and Debs Wild. We are all very glad that we were rabid Coldplay fans in 2008, because no other band could have given us the amount of attention and information that you did, and no other band would have kept us in such eager anticipation. Your music reminds us that we live in a beautiful world, and we hope our postcards remind you of the same.

We all wish you a happy holiday season with your families and a wonderful 2009. We can’t wait to see you in even more cities around the world in the coming months, and we hope you enjoy our postcards.

if no one says anything more soon, i'm just going to have to print the thing and send it without consultation :P.

i just formatted it out all nice in MSword, with semy's logo as a header and his credit as a footer. it looks pretty awesome, if i may say so myself. i can't wait to print it and send it to debs :D

It sounds fine to me. You could add a joke at the end like "you better beat this incredicble year in 2009" or something like that.

hi if i want to send 2postcards..is it possible to put them both in an envelope and send it?

or is it better to send one by one?

thanks :)

I love the letter! So well expressed. :)

Coldplay will probably hire you people for something because of your great organizing on this project. ;)

They'll have to wait... Chelsea will be running for office I think! America will have had it's first black president, next up, a woman!

Semy, your Flash-banner is f*cking awesome, I love it! :stunned: :drunk:

Once it's paragraphed, the letter is perfect :)

The letter is beautiful, I really love the way you wrote it Chelsea :nice:

ooh that sounds really great! :nice: I bet they're going to be really impressed

Oh and Ian very kindly added the option to embed flash files using tags* (this no longer works). Although it appears with white bars at the top and bottom, and ideally we would want to display it without these, its certainly better than nothing :D

EDIT: Fixed! Here's how it looks embeded now:

[postcards]http://www.2and2.net/files/491f4ae3c7ba3.swf[/postcards]

*Just to make it clear, using tags will no longer work. The above banner can be embeded by wrapping [postcards] tags around the following link:

http://www.2and2.net/files/491f4ae3c7ba3.swf

Thanks Ian :D

Zemy, I just added the animation to my sig. You are beyond incredible. Thank you so much Ian as well for fixing up the problem. Yay for me, first one to use the awesome banner.

I love the letter! So well expressed. :)

Coldplay will probably hire you people for something because of your great organizing on this project. ;)

aww, thanks! my unrealistic dream is to be like debs wild jr. or something and start and run the official coldplay fan club :P, but that's pretty ridiculous . seriously, though, i'd kill to work for them :dead:

They'll have to wait... Chelsea will be running for office I think! America will have had it's first black president, next up, a woman!

haha, alison, you crack me up! i used to want to be a senator for a long time, but now i say HELL no :P

Once it's paragraphed, the letter is perfect :)

thanks :D. and it's kinda hard to get paragraphs in here with the formatting and all, but i promise it's all properly formatted in MSword. i'm a nazi with that kind of thing :P

YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!

adding to sig now

and i LOVE how the tags are [postcards]!!

yes, one by one please :D. i'm adding "NO ENVELOPES" to the rules right now. also adding semy's AWESOME artwork to the first post for people to use for advertising :D

oh Chelseas the letter is beautifull! how are you coming with the ending? cause I have a suggestion if you don't mind how bout:

Just sit back and let us shine for you for once.....

Love the Coldplaying Family

edit also: i notice in the rules that the template is not final yet... shouldn't somebody just choose the template before we get the adress. otherwise people may start mailing whitout it...

it's the viva butterfly right?

Carla, the templates were never really finalised, but you can find the butterfly-themed templates in the Guidelines and Rules thread here.

They're in the first post :D

Blergh, I think the site I hosted the banner on doesn't like sharing too much bandwidth, so its not showing the image there anymore

Sites that host flash files are very rare but I managed to upoload it to a new place:

[postcards]http://www.fhqhosting.com/ui/banner%20butterfly.swf[/postcards ]

Make sure if you want to embed it, copy and paste the text in green, and delete the space before the last bracket

Sorry about the technical hiccup everyone.

Ohh sorry!! :D

well them maybe someone should change it in this thread so nobody gets confused... like ME :P

I love your banners Zemy! very nice

I can't see the banners
I know, as I mentioned in my previous post, the site I hosted it on isn't letting it work for one reason or another.

Just for clarification, people need to update their sigs with THIS code:

[postcards]http://www.fhqhosting.com/ui/banner%20butterfly.swf[/postcards ]

without the spaces.

The direct link to the banner is in the spoilers below:

I thought I'd come check in here, and now I'm excited all over again! :wacky: I can't believe how much this has evolved since that night when Lore suggested it (was it on the Prospekt's March thread? I can't even remember)...

And all of the banners, etc., are awesome :)

if there are any problems with the tags and stuff at my end please PM me just in case I don't get chance to read all the pages of this thread :)

lore, semy was wondering if you could update the first post of this thread with his CURRENT postcard templates, since the ones there now are really outdated. the ones to change them to are in the first post of the rules thread. thanks :D

i'm off to fix the flash problem in my sig and the rules thread.
