What's the point in the overwrite feature?

Featured Replies

i hate overwrite... and i go to 'tools' and then 'options' to turn it off... didn't know that the insert key was the one to blame!

So has anybody come up with any useful function of overwrite?

I used to get so fucking mad until I figured out how to turn it off.

The point is... to make people think about the point?

Off topic, but since I have got this new keyboard, I'm finding the lack of a windows key on the right hand side of the keyboard annoying, as I'm used to doing the quick lock (windows and L), and this keyboard needs both hands as i can't hit both at the same time :(

Idiots, alt+f4 automatically brings you to your most visited website, which is probably coldplaying. Try it.

i can totally picture a bunch of people pushing the alf-f4 button now^.

hahahaha

I totally did that. XD

We never did work out a purpose of the overwrite feature apart from causing annoyance.

The insert key doesnt do anything on my laptop, and I dont even understand this thread. Never had this problem

And all the Alt+F4 crap does is bring up the euro symbol: €

Pretty nifty though eh?

Lucky you

No typing away at some work only to discover that you have accidentally hit the insert button meaning what your just typed has just overwritten what you meant to leave.

Yeah, I still dont know what you mean as I havent ever experienced that, but clearly from this thread thats quite a common thing.

But how do you manage to accidentally hit that key anyway? Im on a laptop keyboard now which is a bit different, but from what I remember the Ins key on a normal keyboard was about an inch from the relevant keys in typing.

I don't know how anyone would ever hit it by accident, it's not near anything relevant on mine...

Exactly.

Besides Im trying to put it into action now and its simply not doing anything.

Meh.

Awww, I remember that thread :cheesy:

It's next to my "delete" key which I use a lot :)
You know the story, you are typing something, only to go back to add something else, but to your horror you have accidentally hit the insert key on your keyboard to turn on "overwrite", which overwrites your work which you didn't want it to do.

I have never been able to find a proper reason for having the overwrite feature on the computers, so maybe hopefully someone will be able to tell me.

If anyone knows a way to disable the INS button without physically destroying the keyboard, please let me have it.

Buy a keyboard without it on ;)
