The BRITs 2009 Thread

Featured Replies

So.... at least they were beaten by Elbow which is better than Kaiser Chiefs last time.

I think the Brits are weird. They have no problem with voting Coldplay Best Band and Album the first two times they were nominated but then they must think "hang on, we're getting predictable" so give someone else a look in. The next time they give Kaiser Chiefs the Band but Coldplay the album.... but shouldn't the best group have made the best album? Unless as in this year they think that in fact a group didn't make best album, but a solo artist....

Again, Duffy Best Female, no problem with that as she did have the best selling album in UK last year but.... if she's already won breakthrough award isn't that a waste of a category?

It's almost like they want to be fair but can't be... there was no way Radiohead could win after changing the whole way records are sold, it would reflect badly on the BPI but they had to give them the nod at least.

I hadn't noticed until after it was over but Keane must have released to late for eligibility as that would have made for an interesting competition!

I would rather Coldplay won Best Group and Elbow Best Album but of course if I'd have had my way, they'd have won all their 4!

By the way, I have 4 Music on and have had to listen to Duffy warble vibratto THREE songs in last 15 minutes. She needs her adenoids out, sounds like she has a permanent cold.

My only big shock is that Speed of Sound won Best Single voted for by public at their last Brits and Viva didn't and in my opinion is a way better single, so I wonder how Girls Aloud managed to get more votes? Wow.... hopefully we came second!

Totally agree...as the years go by the more weird the Brits getting.

It's like they think, oh yes, we should give this to Coldplay but no everybody thinks Coldplay will get so give it to somebody else, just to give out the impression that we (the brits) are cool!!!

Viva is much better then Speed of Sound...but then I am sure the fanbase of Girls Aloud did much more voting then the Coldplay fan base.

I find it just really really weird that Coldplay can win 3 Grammys....but not one Brit Award!!!

Off Topic...love TT, and they can sing live ....so why on earth were they miming last night!!!!

Q. Why oh why didnt the band win a Brit award! Was gutted!

The Oracle replies:

Well that's the way it goes sometimes. Iron Maiden have been around for over 25 years and have a hardcore fan base that were voting for the Best Live Act category. Let's be honest, they don't get a lot of opportunity to win at the Brits so it was always gonna be tough. Plus we weren't just competing with the band, but also Eddie!

Coldplay have always done so well at the Brits but this year it was someone else's turn. To see a band such as Elbow finally get some recognition was great! Duffy had an amazing year too. The Girls Aloud's single was stiff competition.

As you may guess by the fact they have all been invited to perform with Coldplay on tour, they have the band's support and congratulations.

It's always fantastic to win but performing, being nominated and taking part are great too.

They have 6 Brit awards 2 for each album and this GREAT AMAZING grammy winining album had none

Hahaha, you made me laugh out loud about the "Duffy havin' a permanent cold" thing

Of course if we had it our way they would've won all four, but somehow this feels like Coldplay doesn't get any recognition at all and that makes me sad.

Did you talk to the boys afterwards? How did they feel about it?

I didn't, no. I knew they'd have the War Child gig on their mind. I know they'll have been disappointed but also happy for the particular winners. It's hard not to win but I think they had a feeling from the press reports beforehand so I guess it wasn't a total surprise!

Is it:

A) Because they danced around in their underwear last night?

B) Because they performed right before the phone numbers were announced?

C) Because Cheryl is an ITV employee?

D) All of the above?

Or E) It's a great single and they have good support.....

I go for E. Cheryl may be ITV payrolled but the BPI and phone voters are not....

The Brits have always been an absolute joke. Just Google Mick Fleetwood and Samantha Fox!!

Funny you should say that cos I am always saying how Gary Barlow is in my top 3 of the most faultless voices live I've ever seen. (Tom Chaplin & George Michael being t'other 2).

It was only at the end I noticed as I spent the first few minutes shouting at the television about how stupid they looked - I mean those tops, glasses and hairdo's... awful! - asking if it was taking the mick out Of Robbie's alleged interest in aliens, or whether he was about to jump out of the spaceship and the cost of that set... etc etc I think you get the idea!

I'm just a cynic, I guess!

But seriously, it's not fair that they have a live vote on the night and not all the songs get played. Girls Aloud did have the perfect slot to showcase their nominated song - I said the same thing two years ago when Take That won for Patience, and I'm a huge Take That fan.

If you're going to have a live vote for the song, either all of the acts should perform or none should.

I'm gutted, I thought they'd get two, maybe three, but none, i couldn't believe it. Well such is life. I was a little scared after that article the other day, but i didn't really believe it would actually come true:\

LOL, was thinking the same...heard Gary on Capital FM yesterday morning and there he actually wouldn't it be fun if a spaceship would come into the stadium and Rob would come out...so, guess some to look out for in the summer...LOL

Iron Maiden's, erm, mascot. He's very scary and he featured heavily in their acceptance speech - as he does in everything they do!

Thanks for the pictures, they are great!

Especially this one, it's like art!

Talking about the performance....I found it really good, and so glad Chris kept his running around to a min. :)

Those are amazing photos, THANKS for posting!!

@ Coldplay12 I think this question was meant for you ^^ :)

It says more about the crappy music taste of the British public (who would rather vote for a group who don't write their own songs and a girl who loves herself than a rock group who write beautiful, intricate, emotionally driven music) than the quality of the music.

Well they voted for Girls Aloud ahead of Coldplay, but they didn't vote for Duffy... that was decided by "the experts"
