So this afternoon, a friend texted me to ask if my husband and I wanted tix to the Def Leppard concert tonight. We had no other plans, and the venue is only 8 miles from our house so we went. First of all, I much prefer onstage musicians wear clothes, an unbuttoned sleeveless vest doesn't count - and one of the guitarists didn't wear a shirt at all. I'm really not a prude, but for Godl's sake, wear some clothes. Secondly, it's my favorite concert venue and the last time I was there was July 19, one of the best night's of my life :) The concert was fine, they did a good job, but I'm just not a big fan of 80s metal/hair bands (unless Jon Bon Jovi is there). I just couldn't stop reliving the magic of Coldplay that night last month...sigh...

You make a good point that ,in matters of modesty, Coldplay is a good contrast to Def Leppard's proclivity to show skin. Coldplay is a class act in many ways, the least of which is clothing. It has been very hot lately. Have you been affected at all by the smoke of the fires? It was very hot Friday and Saturday here in San Fran, the cooling fog finally returning on Sunday.

I always think of Chris sitting naked in a lonely room, writing this about Gwyneth. I picture her still upset about her Dad, and not knowing what she wants, and Chris desparatly trying to sing that he is nothing on his own, and he loves her and to please come home... I know silly, some of the things I imagine, when he sings certain songs.:embarassed:

It's been so freaking hot here - 103 over the weekend, and we spent most of it outside. My daughter had a 3 day soccer tournament (they made it to the championship game, which went to double overtime, then they lost 2-0 on penalty kicks :( ) And we had a neighborhood block party, which was all outside. And then Def Leppard was outside last night. I'm afraid of my next electric bill because we've been running the air conditioners for days.

 

The fires in Los Angeles are horrible, but fortunately for us, we are way south, about 80 miles. Last night, though, there was an orange tint to the moon. Last year, we were very close to several Southern California fires - they pretty much had us surrouned on 3 sides, no danger to us, but schools were closed for 3 days due to the smoke and poor air quality. I hate this time of year, we haven't had measurable rain, it seems, in years, and it's so dry.

There's no wind, so no smoke is blowing this way, which is good for everyone. When the winds kick up, it's awful for the firefighters. What's burning now are canyons in the foothills, hard to contain, on the ground. So they're pretty much attacking it from the air, but having to evacuate thousands of people, which has to be done by the roads and foot. Last week, there was a fire not too far from my dad's house (they were in no danger), that is now 100% contained, but we could see the orange glow from 25 miles away. (Reggie, it was in Palos Verdes - I don't know if you went to that side of the hill when you were down here, it was near the Trump Golf Course). It made for gorgeous sunset that night. :(

Apparently, Chris was able to fix her completely, giving here a new life, with 2 kids in London. Their story seems to be the stuff that fairy tales are made of.

I heard the minimum price of a house in P.V. is $2.5 million, and that there are almost never any available. My guess is that area is a priority for fire fighting and protection for obvious reasons.

There are a lot of older homes there, too, and in this market, they start in the high $800s but go up to the mega-million range. My dad's house was on the market for over a year, before they finally got someone on long term lease. Its a tough market everywhere now.

There is a good description of how Yellow came to be written. It might have been in a Wiki article. Yellow was inspired one night by the band's going out of the studio, which was outside of London, away from the City lights, in a place where they could see the stars shining brightly. Writing the song was a collaborative effort, with each band member contributing a few lines. That is why it seems a bit incoherent and disjointed. It all has meaning, though. I think Chris avoids repeating the meanings of songs because he doesn't want them to become commonplace. If one researches and listens to enough Coldplay's interviews, the meanings can usually be found.

 

I would like to know the meaning of 42, for which I have not found any explanation of yet. It seems to be written after the experience of someone's dying, but I don't know how "42" fits in.

It is so sad to see all that forest burning up :cry: But I remember I took an Environmental class a few years ago and I remember learning that fire is necessary to mantain healthy ecosystems.

I hope nobody else get hurt fighting the fire.

 

It is very hot in Florida too. My last month electrical bill was $320. I keep my AC running day and night 8 to 9 months a year, I guess it is the cost to live in Sunny Florida. I can't wait for the winter. I love it.

It's 6pm here and it's "cooled" down to 92. Tomorrow will be another 103 day. My poor son, doing 2 a days for football in full pads on a turf field - it's at least 15 degrees hotter on the field. :\

I think I am ruined for other concerts after seeing Coldplay. I had thought about seeing Green Day.... I then read that one of the band members drinks beer on stage, and the lead singer drops the F-bomb throughout the concert. Not a pretty picture... Coldplay is all about their music and their fans...

I feel that Coldplay strikes such a great balance in their shows of combining the spectacle with the intimate. Def Lepprd did a good jobof connecting with their fans who were in front with a ramp in the middle and some singalongs and handslaps. But truly nothing compares to what Coldplay gives their fans. The side ramps. B and C stages, the videography is outstanding. I too feel like I'm "ruined" for other concerts now. I'm not sure if Im going to ac/dc with my husband and sons next week but I'm definitely going to Miley Cyrus in mid September. Lucky me.
