U2 singer Bono apologises after foul-mouthed insult of Coldplay's Chris Martin

Featured Replies

Wait, I'm confused. He was joking surely

How can he have decided Chris is a wanker and a cretin after only a week ago he appeared with him on stage and called him a gifted songwriter...I don't get it.

My thoughts exactly.

It was MTV I think. All Around The World with BSB. They went to all the continents in like two weeks.

They were trying to beat NSYNC's first week record sales :D

noooo it was in 100 hours!!!

it was the 100 hours world tour... it was something like

new york-stockholm-tokyo-sydney-cape town-Rio de janeiro-new york

I have a great memory

we are so offtopic

YES! It was! Ha. And they totally failed at beating NSYNC too

I remember that now.... i think i even recorded it at the time :wacky:

ohhhh I hate nsync so much... they were like Justin Timberlake and friends.. it's so funny

I used to hate them too. Only cos they kept beating BSB  All BSB fans hated NSYNC and vice versa

yeah!!

my best friend loves Justin

OMG it's like a boyband virus spreading over the forum :stunned:

I'm pretty sure Bono is not jealous haha.

You guys do realize that U2 have been around since the 80s and have a very successful career. There's nothing of them to be jealous of.

I don't think Bono kicks himself at night wishing they wrote Viva instead of the Joshua Tree hahaha

honestly speaking, Coldplay is much better than U2 because U2 are more of a NAME now , at least that's how I see it... I mean U2 might be good, but i really don't see anything special 'bout 'em...

U2 is not just a name, they have many awesome records. Compared to U2, coldplay are babies, maybe coldplay will be as big as U2 in the future, or even bigger.... but now they aren't

yeah well that is my opinion of course... I just personally never found anything that special about them, sure they have some good songs, but I found so many good bands tragically underrated... my opinion again :)

Well I still think it's out of order, as you never hear Chris slagging off anyone like that, joke or not.;)

I can't recall him ever using foul language in interviews, either.;)

But they have a character in their latest video swearing.

Are you honestly suggesting that Chris Martin is Mr. Goody Good and doesn't swear or slag people?

Mister Squared, once again, your argument sucks.

He never called anyone a cunt! Oh, the boy is innocent! He doesn't even know how to make CHILDREN

oh wait

Mister Squared, once again, your argument sucks.

ahmen sista!

(not brotha haha)

I tried to get into U2, but it turns out, they are rubbish.

Couldn't agree with you more.

Chris Martin thinks they're rubbish too.

In fact every band that has influenced Coldplay are rubbish.

R.E.M. are rubbish.

Radiohead are rubbish.

Travis are rubbish.

Swear to god guys... read! :D

"After apologising, Bono jokingly labelled Chris 'a completely dysfunctional character and a cretin'".

I think everyone's blowing this out of proportion. I haven't heard it, but considering Bono, that doesn't seem like something he would do. Sounds like a joke that may or may not have come out they way he wanted. Happens sometimes. If it had worked everyone would have laughed and gone "Ah that Bono! Haha!" :D

ahaa, can't believe this is going on for 12 pages!!

chill out people....

Bono puts on a bit of a farcical "Were the Best Band Ever; Bar None!" on occasion, half-jokingly, so this comes as no surprise either. I suppose, he's acknowledging Coldplay's growing success, and it's just a humorous jab at one-another; nothing more.

Anyhow, they've worked together quite a bit in the past.

Maybe it's like watching the apprentice become the master, and finding that a bit uncomfortable? Sounds not too serious, yeah.:P

Don't "get" modern humour

I'm at a complete loss to understand modern "humour".

I don't get what's funny about insulting someone as a "joke" and then saying sorry afterwards

Just like the Sachsgate affair - what was funny about Brand telling an old man he'd slept with his granddaughter and as a result Sachs no longer has a relationship with her. Absolutely hilarious, as is this attack on Chris.

What funny times we live in, where a lack of respect for everyone and everything passes for wit.
