I hope Grizzly Bear is in there too.

So every year I do a countdown on my blog as well as on here. For this poll I'll obviously have to number my list. But I'm considering not doing a numbered list on my blog but instead doing a letter tier system. For example my favourite three albums of the year are by Grizzly Bear, Metric, and Joel Plaskett. Instead of trying to decide which of my children I like more, I'm just going to stick them all with an A+. Then the next batch of albums I like I'll give them an A...then my list of B albums, C albums, etc. And of course I might throw in a few F's.

I just find sometimes having numbers turns it into too much of a competition instead of actually recognizing why you like certain albums, etc.

i like this way of rating albums, there have been many times i hate to put albums in an order because i like two different albums equally or like one more at one moment and another at another time

Thanks and added, but..erm...it does eventually need an order before the final deadline or one will be assigned to it. The countdown doesn't work otherwise... Sorry if you just meant that was an initial sketch list.

:uhoh: i´ve update my list, i did not read properly, so i did not know it has to be some order on it :drunk: i thought you were going to count votes or something lol .. anyway :) is updated!

Metric - Fantasies

Regina Spektor - Far

Arctic Monkeys - Humbug

K'naan - Troubadour

The Temper Trap - Conditions

Timber Timbre - Timber Timbre

Pheonix - Wolfgang Amadeus Pheonix

Various - The New Moon Soundtrack (lol probably not really its name... I can vote for it, can't I?)

Bat For Lashes - Two Suns

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - It's Blitz!

Haha thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I've been listening to it quite regularly since I bought it.

No Line On The Horizon - Magnificent, Unknown Caller, I'll Go Crazy..., Fez Being Born and of course Breathe - all top top songs!

Whens the countdown going to be Mo?
Ask Briggins- it depends on when he's available for a webcast to announce the countdown. I'm hoping for Saturday the 13th- it will give me time to get everything compiled and sorted before hand and more people should be available to watch and interact then.

Thank-you. :D You know I could do a popularity list like that too... it wouldn't be any extra work. But the points system seems to work quite well for weighing both popularity and esteem.

Indeed, you can.

And for the record, you've just submitted list # 50! :shocked2::D

Two more lists and we'll tie last year. Eight more lists and we'll tie the record. :D

spent most of my day listening to albums 16-25 on my list. trying to decide where to put them. its starting to take shape now.

what kind of music is it?

You like Coldplay and Snow Patrol, right?

Well, they have a similar ear for melody, although electronics permeate their sound. There's more Radiohead in there than Coldplay or SP.

Recent single 'You Are Here'

The album is an 'album' in the proper sense, rather than a collection of songs. It's thirteen tracks longer, and all joined up via clever segues and transitions.

Finally, no less than SEVEN tracks occupied my 'song of the year' spot throughout the year.

If it's available on Aussie iTunes, please do buy it if you like what you hear. :)

i'm gunna have to update mine but i still ahve a lot to listen too!!!

Ok here's my list:

10. White Lies - To Lose My Life

9. Franz Ferdinand - Tonight: Franz Ferdinand

8. Porcupine Tree - The Incident

7. Julian Casablancas - Phrazes for the Young

6. Passion Pit - Manners

5. Alberta Cross - Broken Side of Time

4. Metric - Fantasies

3. Muse - The Resistance

2. Avett Brothers - I and Love and You

1. Phoenix - Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix

Here we go, the first 3 are definitely my top 3 and ranked accordingly so.

The remaining 7 are the albums I felt have reached me emotionally and have been the ones i find easy to listen to and played the most. I cannot rank the remaining 7,

1 - U2: No Line On The Horizon

2 - Editors: In This Light And On This Evening

3 - Muse: The Resistance

Eskimo Joe: Inshalla

Metric: Fantasies

Michael Buble: Crazy Love

White Lies: To Lose My Life...

Arctic Monkeys: Humbug

Phoenix: Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix

Robbie Williams: Reality Killed The Video Star

Lol I gave my top 5 or so, but I haven't even finished my *difinitive* list... I'm planning to do a proper job of it, too. Plus, I have listened to about 90 albums this year it is kind of overwhelming. So I will be doing my own top 50 eventually.

^^

just out of curiousity. out of all those albums you did listen to. how many did you genuinely enjoy. i listened to about the same number as you but only 20-25 really grabbed my attention enough to make me listen to them over and over again. and only 10 i thought were truly impressive. thats down from about 30 last year.

Me? If so... I have listened to about 90 albums this year in their entirety. I give them enough listens to work out whether they are decent enough. There are a few lately released that I am still listening to more to work out if they are growing on me or not, that's why my official list is taking forever to make.

And genuinely enjoy? Not all of them, of course, thats why I have a "top #" and some will miss out! Hence, the ones that miss out were less enjoyable. Isn't that how it works?
