I think if we leave, the fighting isn't going to just stay in the Middle East. That's the reason why we're still there.

What gives you that idea? Any empirical evidence?

Oil is why we are there, and they're a pawn against Russia and China.

Oh, he got this prize so that Norway could show off with that the President of USA was here!

Jealous of Denmark, we are, yes.

Oil is why we are there, and they're a pawn against Russia and China.

True.

This is ridiculous, Obama has done nothing to earn it. :/

I think he deserves it as well. No other man made the world sit up and actually want to discuss peaefully with the guy when he was elected last year. Yeah it might be a bit too early but I have no doubt he would get it sometime.

yeah I was a bit surprised by this as well... yes his advocacy for peace is a wonderful gesture. He's the only president since God knows when who has taken the "lets talk about it" approach... peacefully. But, I don't know..... this was a little fishy.. and I'm an Obama fan.. but, yeah, this is all a little suspect.

This was his consolation prize for not winning his bid for the Chicago Olympics. :laugh3:

:laugh3:^ good one! It just may be! ;)

Why then?

Yes, why?

Liberty and freedom? Well we supported the dictator who overthrew a democratically elected government in Pakistan.....the Shah of Iran was our bitch until he was overthrown by his people. We have a long track record of protecting or installing dictators to Middle Eastern nations, then only claim we want to help them when we need a reason to attack.

A short list of the people Obama beat to win the Nobel Peace Prize:

Sima Samar, women’s rights activist in Afghanistan: “With dogged persistence and at great personal risk, she kept her schools and clinics open in Afghanistan even during the most repressive days of the Taliban regime, whose laws prohibited the education of girls past the age of eight. When the Taliban fell, Samar returned to Kabul and accepted the post of Minister for Women’s Affairs.”

Ingrid Betancourt: French-Colombian ex-hostage held for six years.

Dr. Denis Mukwege: Doctor, founder and head of Panzi Hospital in Bukavu, Democratic Republic of Congo. He has dedicated his life to helping Congolese women and girls who are victims of gang rape and brutal sexual violence.

Handicap International and Cluster Munition Coalition: “These organizations are recognized for their consistently serious efforts to clean up cluster bombs, also known as land mines. Innocent civilians are regularly killed worldwide because the unseen bombs explode when stepped upon.”

Hu Jia, a human rights activist and an outspoken critic of the Chinese government, who was sentenced last year to a three-and-a-half-year prison term for ‘inciting subversion of state power.’

Wei Jingsheng, who spent 17 years in Chinese prisons for urging reforms of China’s communist system. He now lives in the United States.

Barack himself said he didn't deserve it, so you can't blame him for this.;)

I don't blame Obama, just the dummies who picked him.

I don't blame Obama, just the dummies who picked him.

Agreed. They are obsequiousness personified.:dozey:

wow, choosing Obama over these people is the comparative equivalent of picking Chuck Norris.

I like Obama. But seriously no. This is not fair. I'm being objective

Not fair.

I also want to point out that the noble prizes are given out on my birthday. If anyone here wins one I expect that person to invite me to the ceremony, as a birthday present.

And he deserves it because...?

this

Yeah it might be a bit too early but I have no doubt he would get it sometime.

Can I have the Nobel Prize in Physics then?

Of course nobody's sure that I'll get it one day, but why not?

Oil is not why we're there.

...

Then, why?

Not fair.

Sure.

First of all, I think Obama is one of the better presidents America has had in recent history.

Second, WTF was the Nobel Committee smoking when they decided this was a good idea? He has accomplished nothing to deserve this so far. I can only imagine they are trying to help him to achieve his goals with this, but if anything, this is counterproductive. Fox News and their ilk are gonna have a field day with this.

Why then?

The reason we ever went there was to fight terrorism.

The reason we ever went there was to fight terrorism.

You're a fucking idiot, seriously.

I knew that would happen. :dozey:

Anyone who thinks we went there for oil is an idiot.
