Never really listened to Gaga outside of whatever I hear when I'm out and about, and I don't really intend to either :P

Really the highlights of the year in terms of musical acts... well, they've been pretty much continuous! We've had SO many amazing acts out here this year. For me, I've had Muse/Kasabian/The Killers in the Jan/Feb festival period, then all those amazing acts at Splendour, followed up nicely by a very super December.

I hope I'm wrong in saying this but I can't see myself ever having another year like this in terms of the sheer magnitude of bands I've seen live!

Haha, as for the arias... I agree with Alex that ABC should take over, maybe if that happens the awards might be taken somewhat seriously. Surely they wouldn't be so stupid as to allow the same thing to happen again. Then again, looking at those charts...

Also Alex, I like your top 10 gigs thing... I've seen a lot of the same bands as you this year and if I were to do the same thing it would probably be pretty similar!

One more thing...

I heard Ke$ha (I feel dirty writing that) is doing sideshows whenever it is she comes out next year.

I think I might find an excuse not to work that night.

Edit: LOL at post above. It's ok, grouchiness is required in such situations as these.

I decided to give The XX and Tame Impala a random try this year. The XX are nice, TI I am finding them hard to get into.

i know this has been said many times but what an awesome year in aussie music! and i think that is reflected in how active this thread has been.

heres to an even better 2011!

I've come in a bit late but I agree with everything that has been said above.

As for 2011, what Australia records shall we be anticipating most, beside Cut Copy?

Who will be the next Powderfinger?

We'll see how long Jet lasts. Although they're cracking America - something Powderfinger never did.

not quite with you there. i would say Jet "cracked" america back in 2004 with are you gonna be my girl. they've have limited to no success over there since. same deal with wolfmother.

my pick would be The Temper Trap.

whatever happened to Silverchair's international fame. they were massive up until neon ballroom then Dioramma which is arguably their best effort did incredible things in aus but flopped else where. and then Young Modern which was also amazing didnt do much. where did it all go wrong? theyre making far better music now than they did when they were world famous.

I would pick Temper Trap as well, only because I don't like Jet very much and Wolfmother don't have a very stable lineup.

so who will headline groovin the moo 2011? official line up is announced a month from now.

im really struggling to come up names. aussie headliners possibly The Living End or JBT? international headliners could be anyone but most seem to be taken already by BDO, Laneway, Falls , Future and Good Vibes. Vampire Weekend were the headliners last year so it will probably be a band of similar stature to them. maybe Fleet Foxes? but i just cant envisage them "headlining" a festival.

^I am thinking of going, lots of my friends went last year so it's a possibility. The line-up was rather good last year.

if even half of them release good albums this year i will be very very happy.

For the record, the Angus & Julia Stone B-sides album is decent, even though most will have already heard the songs it the first I've ever heard them.

  • Author

yeah i left them out cos i already have all their B-sides. but good on em for cashing in on their success. they've worked very hard for a number years to get to where they are at the moment so they deserve to add a few digits to their bank accounts.

I cant believe Cut Copy is like a month away, probably less because of leak. I hope its mindblowing.

  • Author

cant wait to see them at laneway. speaking of which. would they release the fucking set times already!!! some of us need to plan their day you know!

Apparently the organisation is shocking at this festival, so you've been warned!

what do you mean? the festival has grown exponentially in the last couple of years which is quite the achievement considering the saturated festival scene we have here in aus. and they managed to get a more than decent line up in 2010. if soundwave is anything to go by, a poorly organised festival doesnt matter much if you can get a good line up.

Black Keys cancel every bdo appearance/sideshow in Australia and NZ :(

Luckily I'm not going to any. BDO is R15 and I am in Melbourne for the Wellington sideshow. Sucks for anyone who was planning on going though.

here is an article that appeared on the NZ news website just a few hours before the band pulled out

Patrick Carney is tired. He doesn't just sound it, he says it. More than once.

The Black Keys drummer is counting down the days until the band's current tour around the States winds down.

"It's going good, but it's been going on too long now," Carney yawns down the phone from California.

Carney might have a reason to feel exhausted. The band was on the road for the majority of 2010 - not exactly what he signed up for, he says.

"When we first started the band I thought we could make thousands of dollars and all you'd have to do is play on stage for 90 minutes, what a breeze.

"But I think I added it up and this year it's 166 days I've been not at home. And then the days I have been home I think I've spent 50 of them in the studio or doing TV shows or rehearsing. I basically am always working."

Fans might fear none of this bodes well for the blues-rock duo's trip Down Under for this week's Big Day Out.

But Carney insists he and band mate Dan Auerbach like New Zealand, very much - they've been here almost every year since 2003 and say they love it every time.

"We've had good shows there. I think every time we've played in New Zealand it's always been at the end of an Australian run and we are so wiped out, but I guess this time will be different."
