Also, Gorillaz on Sunday were AWESOME. Possibly the best gig of super december overall for me! :awesome:

Gorillaz is the show that i wish i hadnt missed but i guess i cant go to every show.

I did get good vibes tix because my friend and I want to see Phoenix (and Friendly Fires), and that news has made me VERY happy! I know everyone seems to love cee lo green but I personally can't stand him. I liked that "F**k you" song for about the first two times I heard it and can't stand his new one :P

feels like an eternity ago that i bought them but i guess the longer they hold onto them the less likely i am of losing them lol

 

while im here. does anyone else reckon that arcade fire will headline splendour 2011? i cant think of anyone more appropriate for the gig. cos theyre obviously not coming during our summer like they promised so its either their own headlining tour or splendour headliners. a couple of years ago i wouldve said theyre too big for splendour but with it's new found pulling power i think AF is perfect.

^I kinda hope not, because I don't think I'll really be able to affor Splendour next year but if they come out I might just have to go anyway... :P

 

But I think they definitely could.

They're going to have a hard time keeping up after this year's lineup though, I think (Splendour, that is..)

im bored tonight so i think i might continue making pointless posts

 

i dunno about the rest of you but at the start of the year i was really expecting to be talking about john butler trio has one of the aussie albums of the year but they have hardly been mentioned by anyone anywhere. i dont think they even got a J award nom and did they go home empty handed at the ARIAs?

 

speaking of disappointments can we all agree that the aria awards night was the worst moment of the aussie music year. any other suggestions? best moments would have to be that splendour period through the middle of the year. the fact that we had some of the best bands in the world down here during the northern summer is just incredible. only to be topped by "super december" lol.

I think you were right in saying Birds of Tokyo and JBT were stinkers of 2010. 'April Uprising' in particular had great sales and their singles got plenty of radio play but critically it was snubbed. I am pretty sure it went home with no awards or recognition across this year. I don't know their music that well but there were a lot of other better quality albums (Tame Impala, Cloud Control, etc.) that received and deserved the recognition. As for Birds of Tokyo thanks to Plans they've now become the new Aussie Kings of Leon. OVERPLAYED, OVERHYPED and not that great.

 

As for the ARIA awars, what a disgrace. I think it's time it was taken away from channel 9. I think ABC could do a better job, what with the musical hosts and guests they have for Spicks and Specks... surely! Jessica Mauboy summed up what a discrace the mainstream music is in Australia and how pathetically American it's trying to be. Other worthy 'shockers' include Richard Ashcroft storming off stage 2 songs into his Splendour set because his crowd was too small. What a dummy spit, but that guy has a massive ego. Hey, he made Urban Hymns. I'm not blaming him for having one.

 

I think there are three peak musical periods across the year. We have the January/Feb period with the "best" summer festivals on offer (Falls/BDO/Laneway/Soundwave) so there is plenty of talent on offer. Then there's the sideshows associated with the mid-year Splendour festival so that's always a nice treat. I think I had 6 bands in two weeks over June/July. Then of course there's super december. I don't think that will happen again for a while, we really were treated to a smorgasboard of fine overseas acts, and some of the biggest bands in the world. I have a feeling Gaga will be here next December so that could trigger something... (not saying its good or bad :P)

i dont think Gaga has enjoyed success anywhere like she has in Australia. i can already envisage her doing several nights in arenas in every major city at this point of her career so who knows how far she'll go in another years time. possibly stadiums? it wouldnt surprise me one bit.

 

personally i cant stand her "music" but compared to her competition which includes the likes of taylor swift, black eyed peas, katy perry, kesha, usher, bieber, jason derulo and adam lambert. i would say gaga is basically the next radiohead.

while we're slagging off the arias i thought i would i would take a look at the current singles charts. and i made some rather incredible observations. so here they are

 

• there are two aussie songs in the top 10, both feature american artists
  
• theres a song called who's that girl and another called who's that chick. are they in any way related? bloody well hope so.
