Yeah same here.... except I still do that :|

Nah, actually, I was wondering what you guys think of Zonoscope. It's certainly not In Ghost colours but I've listened to it 3 times now and it's catching on.

i've also listened to it 3 times and its had a similar impact on me as Bright like Neon Love. but i agree its not quite in ghost colours. but then again i hated in ghost colour for the first 6 months.

Haha, I probably would too if I still had a tv... :blank:

I'm yet to listen to the whole of Zonoscope. I've tried a few times to listen to it but keep getting interupted by about the third song - and of course I already know songs 2 and 3. But Take Me Over has grown on me a lot just by hearing it played after the first song... if the rest of the album flows like that I think I'll really enjoy it.

anyone else read the heated debate richard kingsmill had on twitter with a hip hop blogger called Peak Street? would have to be the most ironic thing i've seen all week. for as long as i can remember kingsmill has been slammed for his highly successful attempt to take australian hip hop to the masses and out of the underground. and now this hip hop blogger is insulting him for not playing the "right" hip hop on triple j. hip hop fans should glad their "music" gets any attention whatsoever. 90% of it is insufferable bullshit.

Exactly. I am often surprised at the amount of Hip/hop that gets played on Triple J. I still struggle to listen to any of it except Kanye West but I actually didn't mind some of those Bliss N Eso songs that were played during the hottest hundred and Chase That Feeling from 09 was of good quality. Apart from those two Australian acts, I don't think much of it.

Yves Klein Blue have called it a day. they made some decent songs but their departure from the scene is no great loss to australian music.

Mmm. For some reason the split didn't surprise me, though the fact they waited 6 months to announce it seemed a bit strange.

Like all the other cool kids, I'm blaming Washington.

All the "cool" kids wouldn't say a thing against Washington, haha.

I agree that it's weird that they left it 6 months to announce that they'd broken up.

Not really bothered by it, though.

LANEWAY ON FRIDAY.

Laneway party!!

:P

Who are you guys looking forward to most?

Good call, they are amazing :wacky:

Probably my most anticipated as well, can't wait to see them again!

Groovin the moo lineup out on wednesday morning. i'm still completely lost as to who might be the international headliner. when were Band of Horses last here? splendour right? maybe no international headliners at all? i'm sure they could put on a really great festival with aussie only bands at the top of the bill.

Yeah, band of horses were here for Splendour.

I really can't think of anyone, either, but you're right about the possibility of having a completely Australian bill - a lot of those bands have toured pretty recently as well, though :P

Whoever it is, I hope they're good and do some sideshows :awesome:

That's awesome, Eddie!

Have fun and make sure you tell us how amazing it is! :awesome:

ok going by several sources. at the moment these are the bands i think are mostly like to be at GTM

The Wombats

The Living End

Dandy Warhols

Iron&Wine (slight possibility)

the usual aussie hip hop crap.

So the lineup (in alphabetical order):

AC Slater

Architecture In Helsinki

Art Vs Science

The Aston Shuffle

Birds of Tokyo

Bliss n Eso

Cut Copy

Darwin Deez

Datarock

Drapht

The Drums

The Go! Team (UK)

Gotye

Gyroscope

The Holidays

Horrorshow,

House Of Pain

The Jezabels*

Nina Las Vegas (triple j)

Sampology (AV/ DJ Set),

Tim & Jean

UNKLE Live

Washington

The Wombats

With more local and triple j unearthed artists to be announced.

It's funny, because it's almost the same as the Parklife lineup from last year, with Darwin Deez, cut Copy, The Wombats , Washington and The Dandy Warhols. Wouldn't mind seeing The Wombats and Deez if they do sideshows.

LOL @identical line up to parklife.

if The Drums sideshow is less than 50 bucks i might go.

It sucked it sucked it sucked it sucked. Though I'm sure your Laneways will be fine.

a tip though, If you aren't planning on seeing Ariel Pink I feel sorry for you and if you are planning on seeing Yeasayer I feel sorry for you.

It was mostly ruined for me because of Deerhunter having all of the problems.

here is my very informal review that i did for tumblr.

I was in the front row for the first 4 bands. cooooool. Ariel Pink were first. They were great. He was wearing a “christmas fairy costume”. Which is what you would expect from him…anyway, they played the best songs from the new album. Synths/harmonies were very similar to the way they sound recorded. Cool live band. Round & Round is the best song ever.

Beach House? They were pretty good. They were really nice. I felt like the drummer wasn’t doing much to their sound though, when they already had the synth drums.

Blonde Redhead? haha. They were such rockstars. It was awesome. Kinda sounded like a more sophisticated Metric. lol.

DEERHUNTER. One of my favourite bands. Great…but not great. Bradford was setting up in front of me!!!! except he looked very tired and was getting frustrated with the sound guy. This is where it all started going down. They soundchecked for 20-30 minutes, having a lot of problems. Then they finally started. Hoorah! It was a song I’ve never heard before, but I’m confident it was just a noise jam…

Now, ‘noise jam’. Deerhunter are great at controlling noise. But it was just too fucking loud. I couldn’t hear anything other than BCROE:IFME”REKGP”C>?RFTP”B>:RR and the rhythm section. Ugh. then Desire Lines! Lockett!!! But, I couldn’t hear anything. Seriously, you know the chord sequence? I couldn’t even fucking hear that. It was just noise. THEN, A really really really loud buzzing noise came from the left speaker, which just happened to be the speaker I was near (left ear is still ringing…) and Bradford just got really pissed off. They stopped playing. They were talking to eachother and bradford looked like he wanted to leave the stage. But the crowd were really great. They were cheering and shouting “BRAAADFOOOORRD!” so he said “I’m really sorry guys…lets play it again”. Then they must have played the punkiest version of Desire Lines…sound still fucked up though. Next was some other song I don’t remember. But it too had terrible sound. And guess what, near the end, THE BASS AMP STOPPED WORKING! woo! after a few minutes trying to get it to work, Bradford played a rather beautiful version of Sailing. I liked this. I could actually hear what was going on!

bradford talked to us!

“This is definitely the most fucked up show I’ve ever done…It’d be okay if it was in someones living room but…this is a nice place though. Does the governor live here or something?” lol.

Next was Memory Boy? I enjoyed it as much as I could. Still really couldn’t hear it though :( Then they played Nothing Ever Happened and Helicopter. My two favourite Deerhunter songs. ugh. I’m glad they played them but it was upsetting to SEE them playing riffs that i knew, but only hearing noise.Arghhhhh then came the worst part. Bradford started playing the riff for He Would Have Laughed but they had run out of time. The rest of the band had to stop bradford :( This got a pretty big reaction from the crowd. But they couldn’t play any more. “We didn’t make the cut…”

kind of upset, I went upstairs to see Ladyhawke. Who was really fucking terrible. I was expecting atleast boring indie music? Instead I got boring, loud 80’s Bon Jovi-ish rock music. It was awful.

THEN it was Yeasayer, who were also pretty terrible. Imagine Animal Collective but really dancy/poppy/mainstream/whatever. Booooring. left after 2-3 songs.

that’s the end of that. Really upsetting. Not worth the $90…

yeah i can't quite decide between yeasayer and ariel pink. i know a lot of yeasayer songs but i've been hearing a lot of bad things about them but i don't know any ariel pink songs and i've been hearing great things about them. i think i might just be boring and go with yeasayer so i can get an awesome spot for Foals.
