No.499

No.2 Rock It - Little Red

and i think we now know who the No.1 is. haha

I was wrong! Again!

Congrats to Angus + Julia. Unless for some bizzare reason Big Jet Plane did even make the countdown and we're treated to a National song or something.

A man can dream...

51 Australian songs though! That's quite impressive I've gotta say.

Post No.500 :D

No.1 song for 2010.

Big Jet Plane by Angus & Julia Stone.

^Is that a record or something?

I think it might be.

51% Australian, for an international poll that's pretty impressive I think.

the record is 52. set twice. in 2006 and initially in 1999.

51 is a brilliant effort and shows that triple j are doing an incredible job of supporting australian music. they are an institution in this country and something all aussie music fans should be very proud to have as a part of our music scene.

tomorrow is another big day for the station. they'll hopefully be broadcasting live sets from the big day out. now im not sure whether that means live performances broadcast a few hours late. full sets or just a song or two? we'll find out tomorrow.

51 songs is a massive effort. I applaud. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to my first hottest 100 all day today. I look forward to tomorrow.

ooo awesome. i remember my first hottest 100. it was the 2007 edition. in all honesty i actually had only been listening to triple j for about 2 months at that stage so i didnt recognise a lot of what i was hearing but i sure did learn a lot.

i'm slowly drifting away from triple j. i think every aussie music fan goes through a little phase with the station at some stage of their lives. you spend a few years listening to them religiously, learn as much as you can about the alternative music world and then find your own way after that.

Well, personally, I don't find time to listen to the radio much, but I still identify with them more than any other radio station and they play more of the music I listen to than I could hope to imagine and they do a great job supporting local acts and live music. I get most of my music from this thread, WoM in general, and other review sites in general such as Fasterlouder and Pitchfork especially. Triple J do have their place though and I have greatly enjoyed Australia Day.

i think through most of 2008 and a bulk of 2009 i would have triple j on around 8 to 10hrs a day. so i was a really dedicated listener. without them i dont think i would love music as much as i do now.

Happy Australia Day everyone!!! I hope you've all had a great day of celebrations/radio-listening.

Also, I can't remember the last time this thread was so busy!

Today was the first time I've listened to the Hottest 100, as well. Very impressed that over half the songs that made the list are Aussie songs! And also that the entire top 5 is made up of Aussie music!

There are a few disappointments on my part, I was hoping to see a few more of my voted songs on the list, or higher up. But I am SO GLAD that neither Fuck You nor Barbara Streisand won. SO GLAD.

Was surprised to see that Angus & Julia won. Not sure why though :P

Sad that I won't be tuning in to the Big Day Out recordings tomorrow. I guess I'm not a huge fan of any of the acts though.

Edit: 8-10 hours a day, Jamie??? That's madness! :P

But I am SO GLAD that neither Fuck You nor Barbara Streisand won. SO GLAD.

Saaaaaaaaame.

I was surprised about Angus + Julia. I knew it would probably end up in the top 10, but #1? It's a good song don't get me wrong, but it was never a track that screamed #1 to me. Too mellow, not catchy enough, something like that.

^ It's definitely a "melts everyone's hearts" kinda song though. Australians are really just big softies, apparently :P

The people on twitter were going off about how stoned they were and how they shoudnt've won.

That's a pretty poor excuse as to why a song shouldn't win :P Plus I don't think I've ever heard Angus singing or talking and NOT sounding stoned.

Fact is, the people voted it in and I guess that's it.

So, only two months after breaking up Powderfinger have come out with a new single, with all proceeds going to the Flood Relief Appeal.

Just realised I'm on my 2006th post :awesome:

woo congrats on passing 2000!

its only natural that people are hating on the hottest 100. people love to hate the stuff at the top of anything. why? simply because it's popular and disliking popular things makes you feel and seem superior those who enjoy popular things.

loving triple j's BDO coverage. only been listening a couple of hours so far but they've had a ton of interesting interviews with the big names and now broadcasting Sia live to air. unlike channel v who have spent the last 4hrs showing ads. gotta love it how their coverage worsens every year. i first watched back in 2008 and it was a good 8hrs of almost non stop live performances with the odd interview. now its a shitload of shit interviews with shit artists then shit performances by those shit arists.
