A (s)C(h)OOL question

Featured Replies

So it was discussed and mentioned before, but i don't remember we have debated it properly, so here it goes:

What kind of school/high school / university you have attended?

You liked it?

You think people get different knowledge depending on which kind of school they've been educated?

You think it offers you different chances in the future?

You get in different social circles/ambiences depending on that?

You would prefer to have attended a different one?

Debate and answer the poll.

I went to a state school... I did quite well, am in a happy position with a lot going for me... I wouldn't change it for the world... cos i met some lovely people, and some of whom I'm still friends with!

To be honest I hate the posh school kids... their noses are too high in the air... and they just come across so ignorant and arrogant!

I don't think where you go makes a difference, it's what you do with the chances/opportunities that come your way.

:)

To be honest I hate the posh school kids... their noses are too high in the air... and they just come across so ignorant and arrogant!

I work in a grammar school and most of the pupils are friendly. I can't stand the teachers though, most of them are very arrogant and incredibly rude. They also seem to think they're superior because they don't have a Northern accent.:dozey:

Trust me down here the high school kids act like they're something special

What kind of school/high school / university you have attended? Public High School.

You liked it? Absolutely not.

You think people get different knowledge depending on which kind of school they've been educated? Of course.

You think it offers you different chances in the future? Yes. People who attend private schools are generally more successful later in life.

You get in different social circles/ambiences depending on that? Um...what?

You would prefer to have attended a different one? Yep.

:D

I go to an All Girls Catholic school, obviously...i'm irish, a girl and baptised catholic :P

where else would i go.

But there's a big mix of religions for a small school.

If you go in and say you don't believe in god, they down mind. :)

And they have great respect and openess for other religions.

I wouldn't even count myself catholic :laugh3:

I don't think that this school system can affect anyone's grades.

I'm doing pretty great in school if i'm honest.

That depends on the person :)

Public High. It's not fantastic, but at least it's better than Public MIDDLE SCHOOL. That place sucked. I hated it.

Yeah, definitely, people get different kinds of knowledge depending on where they're educated. If they happen to be in a public school, they learn more about the dark side of this planet we live on.

Offers us chances in the future? Yeah, to the people who don't do drugs or get pregnant before graduation.

Social circles? No, not really. People take me as I am, regardless if I went to public school or not.

Mmm I have to say...no. It's not a good school, but it's okay in my book. It's just something to pass the time while I work on other things. Plus I get to meet my friends there.

And I have to admit that a couple classes like French, Ceramics, and Lit are good. :) Also, there are the clubs.

Me...

Private High school

Public University

What kind of school/high school / university you have attended? Public high school. *go freshehs!*

You liked it? Yea I guess...still getting used to it :P

You think people get different knowledge depending on which kind of school they've been educated? Definitely.

You think it offers you different chances in the future? While higher class schools do help you become more successful in the future, I think anyone can be successful as long as they try

You get in different social circles/ambiences depending on that? Honestly not really...

You would prefer to have attended a different one? No I love my school <3

private school for me..

i was at a waldorf school (rudolf steiner school).

such schools (their system) exist all over the world.

it has a slightly different system but in the end you have the same graduation..

i think it was nice to go there.

I went to a public school for as well. 1st and 2nd year, I couldn't stand it, partly because I was in a class which was very poorly behaved and it was full of life wasting dick heads. Since I'm at university now, I look back on that class of around 23 pupils and I learn now that I and another person from that class are the only two people at university.

What kind of school/high school / university you have attended?

You liked it?

I go to a small public school and yes, I  it!

You think people get different knowledge depending on which kind of school they've been educated?

I don't think so, imo it's not depending on the school, but on it's students and how they're willing to learn or not...

You think it offers you different chances in the future?

Probably!

You get in different social circles/ambiences depending on that?

Yes. i.e., in my school everyone knows everyone... it's roughly 400 HS students and we all get along 88% of the time.... There's really no defined social circles we all just blend in.

You would prefer to have attended a different one?

No, I love my school and would not trade anything for it :wacky:

What kind of school/high school / university you have attended?

You liked it?

I attended a public elementary school (that's the first 8 grades) and now I'm in a public high school.

You think people get different knowledge depending on which kind of school they've been educated?

I guess it's easier to learn in a private school.

You think it offers you different chances in the future?

Depends.

You get in different social circles/ambiences depending on that?

I think not.

You would prefer to have attended a different one?

A private one? No, because they cost a hell lot. :P

What kind of school/high school / university you have attended?

I went to a public secondary school and I now go to College which I presume is public as well, although you have to get certain grades to get in.

You liked it? I loved my secondary school :P

I supposed it helped that most people there weren't such dickheads as I thought they might be. I was also with a group of friends in most lessons so we always had a laugh together.

You think people get different knowledge depending on which kind of school they've been educated? Of course they do. In private schools there is so much expectation on the pupil to perform, whether it be from their parents or teachers. At my school a lot of people were quite disruptive and that kind of effected the lessons an the teachers attitudes towards the pupils as a whole.

You think it offers you different chances in the future? Erm... I suppose in some ways yes but in others not so. To get into Oxford or Cambridge University, you would need something like 3 As. They don't care about your background or whether you went to public or private schools. The opportunity is there to get in, you just need to be a motivated person to get there.

You get in different social circles/ambiences depending on that? Well I dunno. Personally I have friends from all sorts of backgrounds.

You would prefer to have attended a different one? No. I think I did very well at my school. I enjoyed it (although I did find the first year a bit tough) and I achieved the grades I needed to get into the college I wanted.

Most Ivy League universities in the US admit students that have been in both a public school and in a private school.

What kind of school/high school / university you have attended?

i went to state schools like most people in Switzerland do. The last school I went to was very selective as it is the only school in the area where you can do A Levels. (not a lot of people get to do A Levels in Switzerland)

You liked it? I hated it.

You think people get different knowledge depending on which kind of school they've been educated? To some extent. All schools are supposed to teach you the same things but you'll end up leaning less if you go to school in certain areas.

You think it offers you different chances in the future? It was the only state school where you can do A Levels in my area.

You get in different social circles/ambiences depending on that? You do. A lot of people were quite arrogant because you are constantly told that only the best people get in. The school was very selective which made a lot of people selfish. Everyone was worried that they might drop out and more than half of my class did.

You would prefer to have attended a different one? Most certainly, it was a nightmare. I wish I had done my A Levels in the UK.

Trust me down here the high school kids act like they're something special

I'm sure it happens. :)

The people I went to school with were like that.

What kind of school/high school / university you have attended?

You liked it?

From kindergarten to yr 10 I went to a small school which I really enjoyed. It was a private catholic school.

Then for college (yr 11 and 12) I went to a much larger school in a different place that was also a Catholic private school.I hated it at first, the students were so bitchy and rude and a few teachers are quite pretentious and think that they are in a league of their own.

It got better this year and I only have 2 more weeks and I'm finished for good!

You think people get different knowledge depending on which kind of school they've been educated?

Well I think the curriculum varies in different states, so some of the stuff they did back in yr 9 and 10 I hadn't done and vice versa.

I guess to some extent, yes. But if your smart you will do well anywhere I guess.

You think it offers you different chances in the future?

To some extent, yes.

You get in different social circles/ambiences depending on that?

Yeah, the school I'm at now I have totally different friends then what I did back at my old school.

You would prefer to have attended a different one?

even though there was another school I could have picked that had a lot of nice people I knew, I'm glad I stayed at the school I'm at now even though I don't really like it.

So it was discussed and mentioned before, but i don't remember we have debated it properly, so here it goes:

-I'm studying in a private catholic university (In some other ways I like it). And I was studying in an exclusive private school (this one sucks bigtime. I hate it, I hate the system, I hate the teachers, the good ones are gone and are replaced by incompetent ones, the crowd sucks, but atleast I still have friends there).

-Yes, but still it depends on the person.

-Yes, especially if you are to seek for a good stable job.

-Yes.

-I would really, strongly prefer to attend to a different highschool. I probably would be more prepared at college. Just because it's an exclusive private school dosen't mean that the quality of education follows.
