Rush of Blood to the Head - Coldplay (Parlophone, 2002) Proving that their debut was no fluke — and that there was more to them than “bedwetters” emoting — the likes of Politik and Clocks pushed them into the world’s biggest arenas. God Put a Smile . . . remains, arguably, their finest song. 17. Viva la Vida or Death & All His Friends - Coldplay (Parlophone, 2008) Scandalously, only on their fourth album did Coldplay discover the joys of writing and playing in a room together. Under the direction of Brian Eno, though, they sound reborn — Chris Martin’s death-fixated meditations countered at all times by the restless, rhythmic undertow of a band who many of us didn’t think had it in them to sound so life-affirming. The Escapist
Viva La vida 17!! Im suprised. I love Viva though. Arobtth shouldve been higher though.
Zeya
17 and 71. Nice. Edit: But VLVODAAHF beats Funeral? Weird.
getithom
AROBTH was Coldplay's 'debut', huh? Haha. As much as I love Viva la Vida, I think AROBTH deserved that spot.
karenc
I think they meant that AROBTTH was a massive hit as was Parachutes, so their first album being so good wasn't a fluke...like they weren't necessarily expecting the 2nd album to be as popular ;) I'm not sure I explained that very well :S lol Anyway, that's fab but I agree that AROBTTH should have been higher than it was. PolarMonkey
nah, i think you got it spot on, Karen. it's normal for ppl to judge how good a band really are on their subsequent albums, especially the 2nd album. cos that 1st debut album could be a fluke if the band falters at the 2nd album already. but what is with the positions? 17 & 71...it's like someone decided to just swap the numbers around & assign them to Coldplay. :P
LauraLaura82
I think that VLV is the most popular coldplay album at the moment, and that's the reason why he's higher than AROBTTH. It doesn't mean VLV is better than AROBTTH... (VLV is great....AROBTTH is awesome too...:\) In my opinion X&Y is among the best CP albums, in fact I voted "Talk" as best song, but I really can't say which is the best CP album above all....
Zeya
^It's 100 BEST pop albums, not most popular.
LauraLaura82
in fact, It should be "BEST" pop albums....:( I just wanted to say that probably lots of people voted VLV just because the knew it better than AROBTTH.... if everyone vote only "good quality" music, in this chart you wouldn't find "Girls Aloud", "The Prodigy" and "Britney Spears". Still wondering why Norah Jones is not even mentioned....
juliejulle
I thought that they would have higher positions.. They should have.. but it is fine too :) A bit funny that they made it to number 17 and 71... those numbers :D
Corkus
Hmm...I wouldn't consider half those albums to be "pop", but "pop" has so many definitions these days that it's so inconsistent. *waits for VLV bashers*
rudy_o
17 and 71 :o Wow. Wowww.
coldplay_is_louve.
I don't agree with AROBTTH being 71, but still cool stuff. :D
EmmaLouiseSmyth
I prefer A Rush Of Blood To The Head as an album. But I think as a "Pop" album, Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends is higher. Oh i hate the word Pop :bigcry: :laugh4: But you know what i mean. Mimixxx
Viva after AROBTTH? :o Outrage :P Great though :D Seems it's only the NME "too cool" to recognise them in the decade lists.
mrman78
Great news... I was kind of surprised in the order, but I guess VLV gets points for the whole 'taking risks' part... I partially agree with the GPASUYF comment, I love, love, love that song!
Juanma
nice :D
Guest howyousawtheworld
Woo! Viva La Vida at 17... but AROBTTH at 71?? What the fuck? Britney Spears at number 5 - enoughs enough. And two Radiohead albums in the top 3? Comparing Kid A to The White Album?? Bit far. Bias methinks! Although like one of the comments says, they've scored highly for creativity. Very traditional british bias. I'm shocked The Seldom Seen Kid is not in the top 3. At the end of the day - these top 100s are pointless. Us individuals will choose for ourselves what we think are our best albums. Oh and God Put A Smile Upon Your Face Coldplay's best song?? Don't get me wrong it's an excellent song, but that is an ill informed statement!
Tnspieler1012
the order makes sense considering arobtth is not quite a 'pop' album in the traditional sense.
flickahidalgo
^Agreed. But, 17 and 71? That's a bit ironic!
notlost92
I disagree with all of the top 5- what were they thinking?! :wtf: But I'm glad that Coldplay got on there twice, even if the numbers are lower than they should be :mean:
nancyk58
I was surprised to see Coldplay's A Rush of Blood to the Head positioned ONLY at no. 71, but pleased to see both that album and Viva la Vida ... on the list. But both should be in top 10. And I was also surprised to see Britney Spears as no. 5!! And a bit ironic with no. 71 and 17, but okay. :)

tauiwi
Idiots. Who the f**k puts VLV in ANY top 100 regardless of whether it beat AROBTTH. And 71 for AROBBTH. Please. But, I guess this is a 'pop' 100, and I HATE POP.
Electric.Candy
number 17 and 71... those numbers :D I Know Right :wacky: 'Invaders Must Die' at number 69, yehess :wacky:
