This is hilarious...  I posted about Julien's Auctions in that post from 2011, and today I am COO of the company.   Blacky is sitting behind me in my office right now.  ? Jason

2009 and the Obama era really feels like a lifetime ago ? I wonder what it would be worth now..

Does anyone have any pictures of Chris playing his painted Vox Teardrop guitar during the X&Y tour?

From what I know he played an unpainted Vox Teardrop during some of his perfomances, but I never spotted the painted one during the X&Y tour?

PayPal issues update:

For all of you that have been asking in this thread and via PM, between Monday and Tuesday I have attempted to resolve the issue with PayPal. I have called PayPal directly, and on each occasion they gave me different reasons for why PayPal wouldn't proceed with the checkout process. The most recent reason they gave me (and I'll just go with this one), is that PayPal has an automatic security software at checkout, which screens for unusual transactions. Since my account is brand spanking new (and also probably because the seller is new to ebay), the large purchase got flagged. So even though I went through the process of getting verified through PayPal so there would be no spending limit, and even though I called them to tell them it's okay "it's really me making the purchase", they apparently can't override the internal software.

BUT, here's the good news:

I attempted to contact the seller, Kids Company, and Debs Wild directly via e-mail. I received a response from Debs, which made me breathe a HUGE sigh of relief. Basically, even if you run into problems with PayPal, it will be fine.

Hi

Don't worry... I'm pretty certain it does say within the p&p section that bank transfers will be considered. Also, as it's Christmas you'll have to forgive the fact staff have taken time off and are therefore not always available to answer queries. I'm checking every so often but I do know that a lovely lass called Gemma from Kids Co will be contacting winners so I will forward her your email and then she can handle the issue but as I say don't worry, it will be fine!

Many thanks for your incredible winning bid and out of all the lots, that is the most coveted and what a great piece of history you'll have there. It was the only one that brought a tear to my eye when we were getting it all ready!

Debs

Thanks for the update Carrie, we have been confused and worried as well :)

Yes, and this was my response to Debs... tee hee...

Thank you so much Debs, I appreciate you taking the time to respond, and this is quite a relief. Many of the other fans on coldplaying.com who are bidding on items have also shared concerns about PayPal, so it is good to know that everything will be fine.

As the globe brought a tear to your eye when you were preparing the items for the auction, it also brought me quite a few tears of joy when I realized that I was the winning bidder. This is indeed a great piece of history. In terms of album covers, I liken the Parachutes globe to that of the prism on the cover of Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon… except the prism is artwork, whereas the globe actually exists.

Thanks again for your help, and I hope you and the boys have a lovely new year. And if they happen to swing by Michigan at any point during the next few years, they are more than welcome to stop by and visit the globe, as it will reside less than 10 miles from both of the Michigan venues in which they have performed. ;)

I can't believe the autoharp is going for so little (in relative terms, of course).

I mean, seriously... you can play LIT at home with that thing.

Well, so far the boys have raised about 160,000 british pounds for Kids Company (about 90,000 in completed sales, 70,000 in items yet to be finalized). Way to go! And it will only get higher...

^that is great news :D

and congrats to you :p

That is fantastic!

And it must make you feel good to know that you have contributed quite a substantial amount to that :)

Only wish I could join you there! :disappointed:

Nope... maybe it was painted after the X&Y tour, kind of as "practice" for painting the guitars for the Viva tour? "Viva" was written on the left side of the guitar...

Yep, it's written in the description

Chris played Yellow on this guitar during the X&Y tour. It was the first guitar to be hand-painted by the band's personal assistant Vicki Taylor.

lo&loud..are you planning on bidding on this one too? :stunned:

Also... didn't Chris use this when performing Yellow during the Viva tour?

Chris used the Vox during Yellow on the X&Y tour. He started out with this one, but broke the neck on it while popping a balloon at the KROQ 2005 christmas show. :P Hoppy was pissed I am sure. :laugh3:

The rest of the tour he played a cream colored tear drop. I'm pretty sure it is the cream one that was repainted with the VIVA stuff that is in the auction.

That picture of him with the broken guitar is so cute. Even when things go wrong, he's still got a smile on his face. :D

Watching the bidding in the last minute of the auctions is so entertaining!

Wow, Jonny's signed platinum disc went for more than Chris'.

Maybe he can celebrate with....... CAKE. :freak:

Any coldplaying board member picks today? :)

Yeah, haven't heard anything, I'm curious too. I would have gone for Will's drum from the Talk video, but I um, already got something the other day when "Bidder 18" retracted their bid.

I just got Will's Drum from Talk :)

Ha! That's too funny! What a coinkiedink. Well congrats to you. Makes me wonder who would have gotten it if we were both going for it. :D
