Yeah, but that's EXACTLY my point. You behave in a way you don't want him to behave. But anyway...I've said enough. It was just my opinion, nothing more.

yes I know....after all it just might be a big circle.

yes I know....after all it just might be a big circle.

Yeah, it looks like it.

One more day.

a few days ago i read someone (don't care who) was trying to insult mark by saying he was gay. and not a single person reacted to sth like that?. guys, it's 2009. how can people still walk around and call people "gay" in order to express that they don't like them and nobody doesn't even give a shit?

So, this thread should be deleted because one person (don't care who) called him gay?

I probably didn't react because yes it is 2009, and a remark like that is so insignificant it shouldn't even be acknowledged.

But here we are.

On the boards demise, there were some really harsh threads long before you joined, and there have been since.

Although he hasnt done it in a while (because I havent been posting in a while) he would often make snidey critical remarks towards me, a lot of the time when I hadnt even posted in the thread.

And if I wasnt online it was 10 times worse, if he had one of his newbie minions to bounce off of, I could log on to a random thread which he somehow would turn into pages and pages of slagging me off, and its only a matter of time before he starts doing it again. I can look for one of these threads if you wish.

This.

I didn't even know who Reilly was until I started reading offensive comments from Mark about him across all sorts of random threads (when as far as I know Reilly hadn't even posted for months or even years, having not seen his posts).

He does (has done, we shall see?) the same to me for a long while. Even when Ian stepped in and asked us to put each other on ignore (and basically told us to SHUT UP about each other) because of the arguments I did, but people PMed me telling me he was still being rude about me across the forum. So I had to take him off ignore to defend myself.

The guy is the very definition of an internet troll. He revels in it. In fact, in my humble opinion, the attention he gets here from his unpleasant behaviour is the highlight of his life. I detest him but at the same time pity him.

Same thing happened to me. Almost word for word.

Exactly. I heard he was saying things about me over the past few years when Id only log on every 3 or 4 months and very briefly scan the lounge, so I had no idea he was doing it.

As far as I recall people mentioned they missed your posts on a thread and he then went on a near-maniacal spree of slagging you off in just about every post I read from him for a good few months (his random one-line 'puns' - can we really call them that, doesn't it give the word 'pun' a bad name? - aside).

So, this thread should be deleted because one person (don't care who) called him gay?

i believe we can have different opinions on this and i respect what you're saying.

it's just that - from my point of you - it's better to take notice than to ignore, no matter what year we're in.

and no, of course it's not just this what caused me to say the whole thread should be deleted - it's the fact that the arguement is going in circles and will never ever stop until people learn that there's an ignore feature.

for people like me, who don't wanna get involved, it's sort of sad that we nowadays have to ignore the whole lounge.

you understand what i'm trying to say? it goes for many threads i come across.

but then again - and most important of all - it's just a messageboard. so as soon as i don't like sth, or someone, i can switch off the computer and get on with life. maybe that's the only solution for this.

it's just my opinion and there's no offence intended.

Reilly, that's how I 1st knew of you. Mark's little slagging off rants. They weren't so much rants, as multiple puns, but with hatred behind every character.

First off, Im not taking offence because youre having an opinion, and its not even a wrong opinion, it just seems a bit exaggerated like Hogy's earlier opinion.

for people like me, who don't wanna get involved, it's sort of sad that whe nowadays have to ignore the whole lounge.

The whole Lounge? Its one thread, the only one on the 1st page of its kind, you know whats inside it, if you are that sensitive towards it then I suggest not clicking on it.

I ignore plenty of threads that are always on the 1st page because I have no interest in them.

I just feel the same way as when I reacted to Hogy, its not as if we're constantly abusing him, swearing, insulting him mindlessly. Most of the points mentioned in this thread have been constructive, and as you say it is indeed better to take notice then ignore, and we're acknowledging what a pain in the ass Mark can be and for what reasons.

Again, there has always been spots of arguments and abuse, and in my opinion, when I first registered here it was actually a lot more intense and frequent (Often because I started it but hey, others got involved). I don't think things have changed and I do enjoy a mix of things on this forum, arguments are inevitable and I don't mind them.

Yep. Me and Julia talked about that earlier in this thread. Mark would often influence newbies to his way of thinking, and even PM them when they were online to help him in arguments with me.

It hasnt happened so much lately (Co-inciding with how the board seems to have turned on Mark) but it wasn't rare that I'd get an odd or dispondant response when meeting a newbie, then Id figure out they were behind Mark and their opinion of me had already been made for them.

Yeah. I think I was already in the "Doom Crew" when I first heard of the myth that was, Reilly. So, he didn't really influence me at all at that point. But hey, you're not a myth, you're an actual man, that may like a bit of a cuddle.

I think reilly is the person who mark hated the most on this board (even more than nathan). I know most people didn't get to see that because all this happened before you joined this board but i saw it all. I even bumped reilly's thread a bunch of times and mark would post there just to mock reilly( even though good old reillo wasn't even around) and say that we all should get over it because he (reilly) would never come back.

I still remember the days when i used to argue with mark and James was friends with him and he wouldn't understand why i disliked mark but a few months later he understood my reasons because something similar happened to him. It's not like some people are bullying for nothing and i haven't seen real insults here just people having a kick with his predictable replies.

I know some of you said that how can someone dislike him if you've never met him? Well, i know several people met him in real life and they didn't like his rl personality or something so they ignored him and they have the right to ignore him if they want.

He pretty much threw a party when nathan was banned and kept calling him "victor" so i don't know how he was the bigger man here. And for the record, i told him every single thing i'm saying here when he was able to post so it's not like i'm talking behind his back because i know he'll get to read this. I also told him i'm tired of fighting and arguing but i'd debate him any day and i'd speak my mind with no insults and i'm keeping my word.

i understand why people feel the need to act this way - i study psychology and all this behavior is based on many boring theories i have to deal with in my life ;)

nah, i wouldn't say i'm sensitive. i'm interested in what's going on because of what i wanna do with my life - that's why i started to follow the argument every now and then, whenever i feel bored.

but what i'm trying to say is that this has become less interesting and more annoying by now, because it's going in circles. everything that's been said - from both sides - has been said like a 100 times before and i don't really understand why people don't get bored and still feel the need to say it again and again. if sth like this would happen in a relationship, by now the couple would have split up because it's so annoying and pointless ;) lame example, i know, but again, it's just my opinion.

so if the intention of the people involved is to argue just for the fun of it, the way they're dealing with it is the total right thing to do. if they want to sort things out, it's not gonna happen because both sides are not very... let's say clever.

i hope you didn't fall asleep while reading this ;)

I still remember the days when i used to argue with mark and James was friends with him and he wouldn't understand why i disliked mark but a few months later he understood my reasons because something similar happened to him.

Mark will always be someone's best buddy until they fail to support him when he wants them to - I've heard that countless times from people in real life.

And for the record, i told him every single thing i'm saying here when he was able to post so it's not like i'm talking behind his back because i know he'll get to read this. I also told him i'm tired of fighting and arguing but i'd debate him any day and i'd speak my mind with no insults and i'm keeping my word.

Yep, that's my attitude - tell him face to face, like a man. Not insult people across numerous threads that they'll probably never read. If I have a problem with Mark I tell him on that thread - he prefers to spread lies and stupid puns about them all over the forum (even when they don't even post for a long time like Reilly). Pathetic.

Anyway, I've said my piece, more or less. Let's see what happens when he comes back, if he has such a lack of shame to do so.

And I do wish people would read the whole thread before they say that any of this is bullying - it's the simple truth, posted by many, many users, and all easily backed up by previous posts on this board.

Good post Ren, straight to the point. From searching for an example Ive just found a thread Id never seen before, made when I must not have been posting for a while, and Marks responses are just ridiculous: http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/showthread.php?t=51082

The first few pages are the only ones worth seeing, but I scanned the whole thing, its weird how hes so intent on making his voice heard at the start and middle and then sortof drifts away and gives up because not many were agreeing.

so if the intention of the people involved is to argue just for the fun of it, the way they're dealing with it is the total right thing to do.

Yeah thats exactly what we're doing. Im not the only person to try and reason with him, it doesn't work. I'm not posting in here to sort things out (Unless it results in a permanent ban which would be great) but more to satirise.

you see, and that's why i'm saying it's pointless. that's what i told mark, that's what i'm telling you and that's all i really have to say to this. it's simply a waste of time, but then again, everyone can decide for him/herself what to do with 24 hours each day.

anyway... i said much more than i actually wanted to and it's really late, i'm off.

goodnight!

That page and the one after it just show how terribly full of shit he is, avoiding any useful sign of debate with irrelevant crap. This is the worst part:
2. wht the freak does james being a russell brand fan and putting salt in his food have ANYTHING to do with what he said. You cant roll ur eyes and make a pun out of anything.
Why not? There's nothing to say you can't. :dozey:

Hahaha, thats him defending his entire character on this forum. Why not.

Well thats the last link I'll post, but I encourage others to share!

you see, and that's why i'm saying it's pointless.

You did say that if we're arguing for the fun of it, then we're going about it the right way. Surely theres a point there then? I do find it fun, parts of it are funny.

Besides if your problem with this thread is ultimately that its a waste of time (Which has changed from the your original problem) then go the Lounge Games sub forum where they are currently playing games that include, counting! And, writing the name of the previous poster! You'd have a field day in there.

Goodnight!

like i said - we seem to have different opinions on this and that's fine with me.

bye... need. sleep. ;)

it just so happened that i read through this thread a couple of times during the last week but so far i didn't feel like posting, because... well, this board doesn't mean half as much to me as it used to in the old days. it changed a lot. so i didn't bother (and am still not bothering) to take sides in an arguement which is so very pointless. there will never be a solution that pleases everyone on here. never.

but now that i come here again i feel like saying that hogy is the first person in this thread who's actually talking sense. finally. so i'd like to say that i agree with her.

it's sad.

the whole thread should have been deleted a long time ago because it's so embarrasing.

Fuck off.

Lounge games are far from being a waste of time... they can be pretty enlightening. :awesome:

Okay, okay, not really. :shame:

To the people here who are not trying to work out many years of frustration, abuse, and manipulation, I ask that you look up the last few threads Mark posted in before you judge either side too quickly.

The definition of an internet troll is someone who is disruptive for attention or personal amusement.

Apparently, a large group of girls who were tired of arguing got the message and finally learned how to ignore Mark completely. This is the first time I have ever seen that happen on this board. Normally when people ignore him it doesn't last very long for many reasons. So I payed very close attention to his behavior once an entire group had finally succeeded in doing the seemingly impossible. It was a group of mainly teenage girls who had set up a thread full of -basically- pure girl talk. Something he had nothing to do with. He interjected non-sequiters every few posts. When no one reacted to these he went into other threads and whined about how unfair it was that he was being ignored by these girls. His behavior in the girls' thread became more and more erratic up until the moment he was banned.

I can only assume that either they finally reported him or he reported them for ignoring him. Either way, I think this ranks as conclusive proof. Mark needs attention.

This makes him by definition a troll.

Unlike your usual bored teenage troll however, he seems to be genuinely trying to get something out of this place that he needs in real life that we cannot give him. He is trying to interact with all these teenagers but expects them to act like his version of what adults are. They are not adults, they are teenagers. They cannot and will not conform to his world view. The fact that he seems to need them to, and the way he inappropriately acts towards them and pries into people's lives leads me to believe that although he may be benign, he is in fact the sort of person your mother warned you about- older men trying to pass themselves off as a teenagers on the internet for their own agenda.

I don't agree with the way much of this thread played out. But everything said here has pretty much been said to his face at one time or another. (Some of it by me though he never seems to be able to comprehend that.) This thread has allowed people to finally compare notes in public without interruption to piece together the bigger picture. I get the impression that many of them are counting on Mark reading it hoping that he will finally understand what they have been trying to tell him for many years now.

It's easy to think of a character like a piece of old furniture. It's just always there so you put up with it. I've even defended him on that basis many times. But this week has made me realize just how inappropriate his behavior has actually been. There are children on this board and for lack of a better term the way he treats them can be very creepy. Frankly, I think it might be best if anyone under 18 avoids giving out any personal information that he might see.

Mark, if you are reading this, I'm saying this because I'm worried about you: perhaps you should look into seeing a good psychologist or counselor. This board is not a substitution for one.

I don't want to debate this any further. Be wise all of you, please take the higher ground, (especially the mods who really ought to attempt to act neutrally on the matter) and remember. Don't feed the troll.

This is where people jumping into the middle of a debate they know nothing about, goes very wrong and gets annoying.

Yup.
