How Do You Consume Music?

Featured Replies

I'm just generally wondering how people consume music around here since this is a music forum. Also how do you find new music?

(I don't know if this should be in World Of Music but I found it to be more relevant here since it's a pretty general question.)

pretty much done all of them.

i just got a new program to download music & i'm trying to figure it out

Well, I buy CD's in a store and listen to CD's. But I also listen a lot to the music channel VH1, Danmark which is playing non-stop music, also a lot of U2 and Coldplay. And I listen to the radio. That's how I consume music.

I usually buy my CDs in stores...

I find out about music on the radio, internet, magazines, TV

I usually don't bother with CD's unless I like the band/artist so much that I'd like a physical copy of their work,

otherwise I just download.

Most of the time I illegally download them, but every once in awhile I buy off itunes.

I used to buy all the time from itunes, I pretty much $400 on music. Then one day I lost it all and never could get it back after that. I just can't be bothered to pay whole loads of money for music that can easily be downloaded online for free. I know it may be illegal, but they'll never catch me. :cool3:

I buy cd's or download ilegally.

I mostly buy CD's. I do some online purchasing, but I really enjoy getting cd's.

To me it's just aesthetically pleasing to go to a cd store look at the artwork wait online, and then come home and look at the book while listening.... the simple things in life

Oh, lol, I do a bit of everything I guess, I have a few songs from friends and CDs and stuff, but I mostly buy them off iTunes. :D

THIS.

And also discover new music thanks to WOM and my friends.

All of the above :D

I normally download illegally. If a cd is worth buying, then I will actually buy it.

I discover my music on the internet, mostly on Youtube. Once in a while, I will watch vh1 Top 20 Countdown, but it's all junk. That's where "Later...With Jools Holland" comes in. That show always has some sort of great music on it. Oh, and I get all of the classical music I like from movies and from seeing the symphony.

On either youtube, mtv, vh1, or storytellers, or the radio.

I use youtube downloader.....but yea i think it's illegal now.

I used to use limewire but it totally destroyed my hard drive soo i lost all of my songs :(

^

That's totally how I am. I love getting phisical albums, digital just doesn't cut it for me. If it's a band I really like I make an effort and get their stuff as soon as it's out, if it's a band I'm just getting to know I wait until I know a little bit about them to see if they inspire me into getting their stuff. And when I've illegally downloaded stuff, I've found myself buying the album if I liked the music, even if I already had an illegal copy  I'm also very keen on getting cd's just because I'm drawn by its artwork :uhoh:

I love cd's too! too bad cd's here are expensive, you can get half price cd's in Argentina :wacky:

I always try to buy CDs of my favorite bands as a matter of personal perspective. It may sound kinda ridiculous but I feel as if I have contributed to the band, even though I know it envolves record label's profit and etc.

I used to download lots of stuff, but since my hard drive went totally destroyed by of all kinds of virus, I decided to give a better look at it. Now I download consciously, trying to choose reliable source. I try to avoid it, but how would I get, for example, special Coldplay covers like the ones spread around here? I have to take ilegal download sometimes... :blank:

Besides that, albums here can be pretty expensive. I think it's not fair to pay an absurd for 8 songs when brazilian salaries are so unjust. Sometimes, for me, the price of some albums demonstrates a lack of respect.

I do a bit of everything, really.

I buy the albums of my favourite bands because I know that I like the groups already.

If there is a group that I just got into, I'll download some stuff (illegally :shame:) first or listen on youtube before I buy anything. If I do like the artist, I might buy a few songs from iTunes. And if I really really like them I will for sure buy the album!!

I normally either download from iTunes, buy the CD's, borrow them from a friend, or borrow them from the library.

I try to avoid downloading illegally, but I have done it a few times before:uhoh:

And I tend to lurk in the World of Music to find new artists and whatnot.

i thought the title was like 'how do you eat music?' well... metaphorically.

If I'm trying something new, I'll download it from Itunes, but if I'm getting an album by a band or artist that I really like, I like to get a physical copy... I'm a bit of a geek, I like reading the liner notes

I forgot to say, we don't have itunes music store (just apps store) here, so no one buys digital music
