Yay! I finally got a chance to download and listen to my mixtape. Thank you, thank you, Mixtape Maker!! I love it!! Lots of stuff I don't know and some songs I already know and LOVE! :D

Here's a brief and not at all technical review...

1. I know enough about the Killers to know this is them, but not enough that I know what song this is. I do like it, though... been meaning to listen to more of them. Brandon Flowers' voice can sometimes annoy me, but I really like the melody of this song... is the title "Can You Read My Mind?"...that line is repeated a lot. Like it!!

2. No clue about this one, though it does sound vaguely familiar. Starts off with really pretty melody and instrumentation. Singer's voice is very high and almost too sweet...."it's not me, it can't be..." like this one, too!

3. Another one that sounds vaguely familiar... I like the singer's voice alot. starts with piano and vocals, violins come in. "...Love burns brighter than sunshine". nice. The end got a little repetitive, but another good one!

4. No clue on this one. Singer has very high voice... can't really tell if it's a man or woman. Kind of electronica-y (not sure if that's the correct term, but it definitely involves synths!) Reminds me a bit of Erasure w/ its light tone. Nice chorus. interesting breakdown about 2/3 of the way in... is this the same song or does it kind of meld into another; the last section sounds a bit different from the rest of the song. Curious as to who this is!

5. More electronica (again, sorry if that's the wrong term). I think I like this one more than the previous, though. This reminds me of stuff I listened to in high school (in a good way!) :) "Such great heights..." Is this The Postal Service? For some reason I associate those words with them. I haven't heard much of their stuff, but I've been wanting to try them out!

6. :stunned: Precious Things by Tori Amos!!:heart: love this song; love this album! Haven't listened to it in a while... thanks for the reminder! :nice:

7. Don't know this one at all... interesting intro; lots of textures. Very interesting instrumentation and nice to listen to, but not one of my favorites.

8. Again, really interesting instrumentation (electronica-y again). Like the singer's voice alot. "first train home; got to get on it". Like this one a lot!

9. I know this one! Phoenix- Lisztomania! Love it!

10. Don't know this one, but I LOVE it! A Harp! A really lovely female vocalist. She has a really powerful voice. very nice! Can't wait to find out who this is!

11. Is that an accordian I hear? Two voices- a man and a woman. Like this one!

12. The Smiths! This Charming Man!! Oh, I love, love the Smiths, though it's probably been a good 10 years or so since I last really listened to them... I only have them on cassette!! Thanks for this one!!

13. Wow!!! Echo & the Bunnymen, "Bring on the Dancing Horses"! Mixtape maker, I love your taste! :D Love this song, though it's really the only Echo & the Bunnymen I know. I also have this one on cassette! :P

14. The Cure- Boys Don't Cry! Wow, these last three songs take me back! Haven't heard them in a while and really love them!

15. This one I don't know, but it also sounds vaguely familliar. "With my feet in the air and my head on the ground..." I like this one alot, too!

16. Sounds like New Order, but it's not... Joy Division? I don't really know Joy Division, but I know they have a song called "Love Will Tear Us Apart"! :) I quite like this one, too!

17. Don't know this one, either... "There's beauty in the breakdown..." wow! another winner!

18. Oh, I really like this one too. Nice and upbeat. Kind of reminds me of the Killers.

Thank you, Mixtape Maker! I really, reallly love this mix and you were right on with your choices... they are just outside what I'm used to listening to, but still really appealing to me!

I can't wait to "meet" you and find out the setlist! Thanks again! :nice:

^me, too! :P

Also, I can't wait to hear what my partner thought of his/her mix! :D

ok, this is killing me... please... someone?! anyone?! I know you're out there with my mix and a review for it and a tracklisting for me :(

^AdamScoales

Who again? :freak:

I'm not your mixtaper but...

2. No clue about this one, though it does sound vaguely familiar. Starts off with really pretty melody and instrumentation. Singer's voice is very high and almost too sweet...."it's not me, it can't be..." like this one, too!

This one is Mew for sure, it's 'She came home for Christmas' ^^

3. Another one that sounds vaguely familiar... I like the singer's voice alot. starts with piano and vocals, violins come in. "...Love burns brighter than sunshine". nice. The end got a little repetitive, but another good one!

Aqualung?

6. :stunned: Precious Things by Tori Amos!!:heart: love this song; love this album! Haven't listened to it in a while... thanks for the reminder! :nice:

Toriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!! This mixtaper has very good tastes!

10. Don't know this one, but I LOVE it! A Harp! A really lovely female vocalist. She has a really powerful voice. very nice! Can't wait to find out who this is!

Harp + powerful female vocalist....It very likely to be Florence+the Machine :awesome:

Can't wait to see the tracklist and here this mix!!!

Maybe we could make a list of people whose tape hasn't been reviewed yet? If there are others who like to listen to a mix tape, they can choose one or ours?

My name is on that list...

So, apologize for a delay,

Here is my review:

1. The pretty frisky began, a song is built around a amazing guitar riff, reminds me the first Radiohead album a lot :guitarist:

2. good mix of soul, ambient and alternative. Extreme ending was incredible! ::thumbsup::

3. It is just diamond! Obviously it is BAT FOR LASHES!!! I was lucky to hear them before Coldplay gig in Nijmegen:awesome: Vocal, performance, music, feelings – all is simply incredibly here! Seems their last video was shooting on this song. anyway thank you so much for this song, my mysterious mixtape maker!:pleased:

4. Beautiful, sad ballad about the tricks of fate. I’m really like lyrics and it seems that vocalist indeed very experiences about what he sings:thinking:

5. Song is full of wonderful sounds, which I even can not identify:stunned: But a singer is almost whispers here, so that I’ve hardly not fell asleep:sleeping::lol:

6. this one has reminded me Louis Armstrong “What A Beautiful World”. Such a great hymn to life and freedom!

7. Sounds like choral performance of somekind of legendary country hit. Pretty amusing!:guitarist:

8. I hear very simple upright piano on the background, good rhythm, but it is not my style of music honestly. Although I listened to this song for a whole hour without rest.. seems that its Craig David

9. Quiet male voice sings about love and parting, to be honest I’ve almost began to cry... it reminds me of last girlfriend. And I love the basic guitar riff here :shy:

10. Such an impression, that I made voyage somewhere in wonderland, super relaxing song:rolleyes2:

11. another relaxing track. my mixtape maker is a girl, it is obvious;) Well, it is a beautiful song about love, «honey, I will meet you”, if we’ll take only lyrics, it is very familiar to Coldplay Moses. And voice… mmm…. Maybe its Joss Stone?

12. probably this Norah Jones songs?! I liked rhythm and quiet flow of this song

13. And ending :awesome::awesome::awesome::awesome::awesome::awesome::awesome: I really love this one, so simple, easy and unpretentious. I didn’t get in who is sings, maybe it was Pixies.. but it seems something from 90th. I’m quiet intrigued...:whatever: One of the songs, in the style “I’m fine. I don’t care. Life is wonderful!”:escaping3:

So, mainly my mixtape is self-possessed in very quiet and relaxing style, music does not strain and helps to calm down. The best tracks are #2, #3, #10 and #13. Very recommend to listen. Thank you to my mixtape maker for excellent work, she/he (she!) seems to me spent a lot of time to choose these songs. And she certainly has a wonderful musical taste!

and one more thing

i'm looking forward tracklisting with impatience!

Who has btw not been online in a week...

Before I begin I must confess that most of my mix tape were in a foreign languages ;) so my review will not be as in-depth as others. FL= Foreign Language

Track 1: FL- To start off the mix was a live track from a concert, It is heavy with violin which makes it quite fun and the crowd in the background of the song are enjoying it! The lead singer also sounds like he is enjoying himself with what I presume are catchy lyrics? Fun track to begin with!

Track 2: This track begins with a mellow guitar rhythm with addictive lyrics of don’t sell me. Love the instrumental bit in the middle of the song. It makes you want to joke around with friends. Great song.

Track 3: FL- This song has a bit of a bjork feel in the beginning and then changes to a hard rock feel with heavy singing for the chorus, then switches back to the bjork’y’ sound, then back to the hard rock. Interesting song, not my favorite but it might help if I could understand the lyrics ;)

Track 4: FL- I must say this song is a bit weird but addicting even though I have no idea what is being said. It reminds me a bit of Muse with the music. The singer is singing in short staccato words emphasizing each bit of the word. The song gives off a hypnotizing feel to it.

Track 5: Every time I hear this song I think it should be in a James Bond Movie, It has this sultry feel to it and then it changes to rock part with heavy lyrics, all the while soft piano plays in the background. The singer has a melodic voice that works well with the song. Intriguing song!

Track 6: FL: This track has this way cool intro and then it jumps right into a chorus of fun, with this chime sound in the background. I think it is a French song? I can understand some of the lyrics: Mr. President, bloody? Different song all around, ends with laughing ☺

Track 7: FL : Err I believe this is a traditional German song, It is heavy with bag pipes and drumming! Way fun to turn up loud on speakers and scare roommates with!

Track 8: I’m guilty but when this song came up I shouted English! Hehe not that I’m not enjoying the FL songs but its nice to understand what is being said! This song has a mellow feel to it with a pleasant guitar and tambourine riff. The singer sounds so familiar!

Track 9: I love this track It sounds like the Flaming Lips? I almost sure it is them, it is such a happy track that you can’t help but smile :D

Track 10: FL-This reminds of a mix of Jack Johnson and an awesome blues guitar player. He has such a sultry voice that you can’t help bobbing your head along. I listened to this track three times before moving on to the next track on the mix tape.

Track 11: Great guitar, I’m such a sucker for guitar. This song is a bit depressing but still has great lyrics that make you see past its downcast sound, it has a sound almost like my chemical romance that have great lyrics in their songs.

Track 12: FL- My itunes says this Les Wriggles? The song is acoustic and the guys singing all have great voices and are in harmony with each other. Guitar is helping them along. I like this song, it was a peaceful song.

Track 13: FL- Ah this is my kind of music! While I have no clue what is being said I still enjoy the drums and the guitar. The lead singer is kind of reminding me of the singer from The Offspring. Wonderful track!

Track 14: The singer has such a cool voice! He has a little tweak to his voice that makes him unique; there is a girl in the chorus that helps sing with him. The song has a great beat that makes you want to clap along. Kind of reminds me a little bit of The kooks but much quieter!

Track 15: FL-This mix tape began with a live track and ends with one as well! This song has crazy awesome acoustic guitar in the beginning and then a man sings with a somber tone that changes a bit in the middle turning into a yearning sound. Finishes with loud clapping from the crowd, obviously a well-liked singer. It was a nice song; I wish I could understand what was being said though!

Overall I thought it was an interesting Mix, there were many songs that I liked and few that I didn’t like so much. I feel like I didn’t do the best with reviewing because 9/15 was in foreign languages so I had to comment on the music aspect more so than the lyrical part. But nonetheless this was a fun thing to do and I can’t wait until the next Mix tape exchange! Good Job to my mix tape maker! You gave me some different music and opened my ears even more!

As The Escapist said it's me, I'm glad you liked it even if there is too much foreign langague (but well there is not only English singing around the world :P) ;)

I will give you more info/comments tomorrow because now I'm tired plus I'm sick so it will be better tomorrow!

^ French mixtaper ahah. I hate the Wriggles XD

Yeap, you get me!

(Les Wriggles déchirent sa maman, non mais :P)

4. Tété – Ton Absence (A la Faveur de l’Automne) 4:18

 LOVE Tété!!! His in my top 3 of french artists. AWESOME live! Nice choice Deirdre!

Yeap, you get me!

(Les Wriggles déchirent sa maman, non mais :P)

I guess what matters the most with the Wriggles are the lyrics, but I dunno, I've never liked them... and I never will :D (cela dit je ne suis pas du tout chanson française... à part les Rita, Alain Bashung, Vanessa peut-être? et ça s'arrête là)

Woah, I said nothing about being angry with you, I was just afraid you wouldn't react at all. Take it easy.

  1. Nice acoustic guitar, and then, a powerful woman voice. A pop-rock song, nice lyirics and nice singing. Not bad.
  2. Man singing a dreamy song. It sounds oldie, a pretty nice track.
  3. I Fucking LOVE this song! It has a great house feeling, it's relaxing a so well flowing.
  4. Then we got moving! A rocky song.
  5. Eskimo Joe, Black Fingernails, Red Wine! I must check eskimo joe! Great song.
  6. K's Choice, according to album xD Another poppy rock song. Not bad, not great.
  7. This file doesn't work.
  8. Really nice song, slow, relaxing, and I hear a nice sax in the middle of the song. Lovely!
  9. Electro beggining, ambient sounds. Nice beat and overall an amazing song!
  10. Cool beggining. And then it gets all groovy! Pretty danceable.
  11. Electro again, and this is french. Nice track.
  12. Rock pop, really catchy!
  13. A lovely start! Nice chorus. And nice background voices. Good bass too.
  14. A rocky ballad, not bad. Kinda boring for me.
  15. Is this live? Great piano! Not the kind of voice I like, but it's still a good song
  16. This a ballad. Not my kind of thing.
  17. AMAZING! Great piano and great voice! And then it comes a lovely flute! Omg, really loving this one.
  18. A really nice ballad. Good way to end this tape.

This was overall a great mixtape which I really enjoy. Thanks a lot mixtape partner! :nice:

Here we go! Review time![/color]

Wow…incredible mixtape. This person knows what they’re doing. Also, most of it is very relevant to my tastes, despite the maker knowing nothing about me. Maybe I’m just very open-minded and enjoy a wide range of music, but most of the stuff on here fits in with itself; it’s not all over the place.

Also…this mix is LONG.

I’m super excited to see the tracklisting! :D

'ello Swallowed Seaman... :shocked2:

This is just to let you know, your tracklisting will be up soon! I only found out today that you are my new mixtape partner! There was somebody else asigned to me, but they failed to submit their own tape and were kicked out of the game. Pleasure to meet you! I was so thrilled to read your review!

As The Escapist said it's me, I'm glad you liked it even if there is too much foreign langague (but well there is not only English singing around the world :P) ;)
