I think when both parties are under the age of consent, it is assumed there is nothing to suggest that one has "taken advantage" of the other, as both are regarded as "innocents" in the eyes of the law.

 

Yeah this kinda confuses me... but eventually a case will pop up where we'll have to rethink the whole "two parties underage are both automatically innocent" thing. I think so anyway. But that might be meandering a bit off topic.

I think that if a Dr,Teacher etc wants to be involved with someone under thier care and the other person is an adult then it's ok if they no longer accept them as thier patient/pupil and maybe even transfer to a different facilty altogether.

 

I'm not sure exactly what the age of consent for gay/lesbian couples is either, I know it used to be higher at 18 for gay guys but I'm pretty sure there wasn't one for lesbian coupes until recently.

I think the "half your age plus seven" rule is good, it'd be disgusting to see a 50 year old man dating a 18 year old girl in my opinion.

A teacher at my secondary school was arrested for possessing child pornography, luckily I didn't have him as a teacher. He seriously didn't look the type though...

One of the teachers at my school was caught having an affair with a student last year. Since she was 18 at the time, he only lost his job (and had a wife, so I figure he'd lost her too). I think they started the affair when she was still underage, though. They probably couldn't just prove it or do anything about it or something by the time they got caught.

You're probably right about the assumptions, especially as said person was known by a member of the board, I shouldn't be so harsh. My apologies, but I don't place the blame entirely on the teacher (the law does tho).

I'm employed by the British Council and they told us that we need to be very careful with those kind of things. You could easily lose your job if the pupil's parents complained to the school. One of last year's assistants apparently got in trouble because she went for a meal with her pupils (they didn't even drink alcohol).

Hahahaha! One thing I must applaud him on, his knowledge of the laws on consent and statutory rape are impeccable. He's taken such an interest in this thread, what a nice guy, he shows how much he really cares about the kids.

I think the teacher/pupil, Dr/patient etc relationship is highly unethical wether both people involved are over the age of consent or not.

 

In my opinion 15 or 16 is the right sort of area to have the age of consent, I think in most states of the US it's 18 which is too high.

In the UK it's 16,although I didn't feel the need to wait that long, if you're both under 16 then I don't think there's much legally they can do either.
