FINISHED! SOUTH AFRICA 2010 WORLD CUP!!

Featured Replies

yeah, I can't stand Maradona, even if he is legally insane.

I remember in my music appreciation class, my brazilian classical-guitar playing teacher once made a joke about Argentinians. Nobody got it or laughed, so he started to explain how Argentinians are notorious for looking down on other south americans and modeling themselves after Europeans.

Some of them don't consider themselves americans. In fact Buenos Aires is known as the Paris of America.

But really there lots of excellent coaches in Argentina, but they had to put Maradonna, an arrogant and vicious dude. A

The most arrogant teams are definitely Spain, Portugal and France! So glad two of those three are already out

Spain?! Arrogant! I think they're quite modest for arguably man for man the best team at that world cup!

BUT oh look what we've got here! If you thought they are arrogant think again Josh. Phillip Lahm has effectively stated that Argentina are bad losers. Bad mistake Phillip. Just because you bet a downright rancid England team doesn't give you the right to start pointing fingers at other opponents. The German's inexperience will show through eventually, and I suspect it will be against Argentina. If you Germans get battered then we all know who provided the team talk for them.

Here's the article from BBC Sport.

Geramny captain Philipp Lahm has tried to step up the pressure on quarter-final opponents Argentina by accusing them of being bad losers.

"We know South Americans are impulsive and temperamental and cannot lose.

"We'll see on Saturday how they'll lose and how they'll behave after a defeat," said 26-year-old Lahm.

His comments came a day after team-mate Bastian Schweinsteiger warned that Germany must not be "provoked" by Argentina during Saturday's match

Midfielder Schweinsteiger claimed Argentina's players set out to unsettle opposing teams and influence match officials, saying: "It starts before the match. You see how they gesticulate, how they try to influence the referee.

"That is not part of the game. That is a lack of respect. They are like that. We should not be provoked by them."

Schweinsteiger and Lahm were part of the Germany squad when they beat Argentina 4-2 on penalties at the same stage of the last World Cup after extra-time ended with the sides level at 1-1.

That victory was marred by ugly scenes after the match, when players and coaches from both teams clashed on the pitch.

Tevez puts Argentina into controversial lead

There was also a heated exchange between Argentina and Mexico benches at half-time in their second-round match on Sunday, after the South American team's first goal was allowed to stand despite a clear offside.

"This behaviour shows their character and mentality," added Schweinsteiger.

"I hope the referee will pick up the feeling of who is provoking whom. We saw that again in their match against Mexico."

Unsurprisingly Argentina coach Diego Maradona made a forthright response to the comments and said: "What's the matter with you, Schweinsteiger, are you nervous?

"I'm not worried about what they say about the penalties, the kicks. We're going to go and beat them in their half. We don't have time to think about Schweinsteiger. The players are thinking about going onto the pitch, in getting their revenge."

Meanwhile, Germany coach Joachim Loew said he had detected weaknesses in the Argentina side which he hoped his side could exploit.

"They have great qualities - for me, they are one of the favourites for this tournament," said Loew.

"They have a lot of experience, they have an impressive attack and not just through forward Lionel Messi alone. We have found weaknesses in their side, but I will keep that information for my players."

Lukas Podolski and Mesut Ozil missed training on Thursday as a precaution but are expected to be fit to play the quarter-final.

Podolski did not complete training on Wednesday as he had a minor muscle problem, while playmaker Ozil remained in the team hotel because he was feeling unwell.

"Sometimes it is maybe better to skip a training session instead of extending the fatigue you have," said team manager Oliver Bierhoff.

But striker Cacau looks unlikely to recover from an abdominal muscle strain in time for the game in Cape Town.

If GERMANY WINS THE WORLD CUP, then maybe Paul the octopus should be made a GERMAN SYMBOL or MASCOT for the GERMAN FOOTBALL TEAM - like the bear is a symbol / mascot for Berlin. :D

I think they already have a mascot named 'Paule' hes a bird or something

Sorry, but they shut England out. I have to root against them.

Paul the octopus is back... and he predicts a German victory on Saturday! (He's been right 100% so far during the World Cup!) :D

Spain arrogant?!

Portuguese are not arrogant, don't judge the whole team because of Ronaldo. And I don't find french arrogant either.

Germany vs. Argentina:

It may be a match where both teams are afraid of giving chances away - the situation is tense.

My result prediction is 1-1 (maybe 0-0), also after the prolongation.

Which team is best at penalties? Nerve-wrecking match ahead.

Netherlandssssssssss!!!!!!! :awesome:

But they'll be playing against Brazil. Die. :bomb:

Sarah, is it correct that the German team already has a mascot named 'Paule' - a bird? Or is Paule the octopus oracle / Paule, der Oktopus Orakel already themascot of the German team?

I think germans win in penalties, Argentina to win needs to do it in regular time.

Schweinsteiger is such an awesome name. :wacky:

:lol:I agree :D

It would be ridiculous and low.

It was completely Argentina's fault. Yes, I'm biased, but heck that was low.

They first tried to provocate and distract the German players during the penalty shootout and when Tim Borowski (blonde, tall) gave them an angry look, one of the Argentinans attacked Per Mertesacker (blonde, tall) after the shootout out of nowhere. He confused those two.

yes.....as far as I know an argentian player attacked Mertesacker first....ugly scenes...german players do still have this in mind...

Blonde and tall? That is not a good reference :P

I just saw the brawl, not who started, but knowing Argentinians I'm sure it was their fault.
