Clocks or Speed of Sound?!

Featured Replies

Because it's not good when performed live in huge arenas.

It's quiet, ambiental, intimate, etc.

He has to sound "bored" when he's singing it.

Do you see where I'm going with this? :D

It's all about the details and different sound effects.

Clocks is much more stripped down and simple, yet breathtaking, that's why it's so perfect. It's also faster than SoS.

But again, Speed Of Sound was the first CP song I heard when I was a kid, and it will always be the definition of Coldplay for me. ;)

Clocks, definitely. It has a brilliant structure (a shame for the radio edit and more recent live versions, which rip this configuration apart) and great lyrics. Amazing live performances of this song are all over the Youtubes. It shows Coldplay at their peak.

As for Speed Of Sound, I was hyped about it when it came out, it was my favourite song. But I lost interest in this song later and I discovered that it's really not THAT good (Clocks-good, that is), lyrically nor musically. I still think it's a good song though.

I'm actually surprised that so many people do prefer Speed Of Sound over Clocks. Just surprised I mean.

It's an age thing, and when you got into Coldplay.

If I were old enough to be introduiced to CP in the AROBTH era, nothing would come near to it.

And nooothing else compaaares...

I feel the same about people who started listening to them during VLV.

That's not classic Coldplay to me. It's not the first thing that pops into my mind when I hear their name.

But, Coldplay=Coldplay. So, whateva...

The fans seems to love Speed Of Sound. But in the Howard Sten interview when Chris was asked if there are any songs he doesn't like to perform he said it is Speed Of Sound.

If the fans like it why not playin it?

Chris said they hate this song, he thinks it's their worst song ever, that's why they never play it.

The bitch says that about everything. :awesome:

I love the fact that they're so humble and grounded...
