I love both; I don't think I could pick one over the other.

 

For me, musically, each have different "moments", but have a different pace and changes. Clocks is a little more mellow for me, after the intro, while SOS has more of an anthem quality (like you want to play it loud). I also think SOS showcases the full band's sound more while with Clocks Chris and the piano really feel much more prominent to me. I love the intro to Clocks though - for me, it just screams Coldplay...

Speed of Sound is one of my favorites of all.

SoS is not even in my tope like 30 CP songs, it's very empty and weak imo, although it sounds incredible live!

 

Clocks however, the melody is jut incredible, probably the most important CP song for many reasons, and it just rocks! :D

they are nothing alike and Speed of sound just doesn't have the same spark as so many of Coldplays songs have for me.

CLOCKS is the better song of these two for me, but I really love both Speed of Sound and Clocks (my no. 7 and my no. 2 of my Coldplay favourite songs).

Speed of sound don't make it in my top 20 coldplay songs my no 1 has got to be Swallowed in the sea ,

For me it'd be Clocks, but I love Speed Of Sound a lot. Both are in my list of ''perfect'' CP songs.

I don't think these two songs sound alike at all...just my opinion :shrug:

 

I like Speed Of Sound but Clocks has to steal it for me. I absolutely love it, have done since I first heard it and I never get sick of it. It would definitely be in my top 5 Coldplay songs :D

It's funny the thread starter should say that, because a friend of mine mentioned this when X & Y first came out. At the time I disagreed but I came to see they were both very similar in basic construction, if not "sound".

 

That said, I'm one who wouldn't have Speed of Sound in my top 20 songs. I never really listen to it at all, despite my initially liking it very much. Clocks was never as big to me as it was to others, but at the same time I think it is an amazing song.

Both/impossible to choose.

Clocks has better music, Speed Of Sound better lyrics.

And they're not THAT similar.

 

I want more X&Y songs on the MX tour, even though I understand why they left them out.

They require a different kind of stage production.

But at least add SoS!

I'd say the same if C(l)ocks was the first CP song I heard. I first heard SoS, so that's why I can't decide. :stunned:

But if I had to name only 1 perfect CP song, I'd chose Clocks. :)

It's true that they are similar. When I started to listen to Coldplay, I never knew which one it was at the beginning. :lol:

Glad I'm not alone in thinking Clocks is just perfect! I've listened to it so many times over the years and it still send shivers down my spine! :o

The fans seems to love Speed Of Sound. But in the Howard Sten interview when Chris was asked if there are any songs he doesn't like to perform he said it is Speed Of Sound.

If the fans like it why not playin it?
