I've only bought about 5 CD's in my life. Mostly download :/

As for concerts, I go to as many as possible however it is hard to find people to go with me as many of my friends don't enjoy the same music I do!

i have the same issue. my gig list is dictated by what my friends enjoy. but ive developed a knack for convincing friends to go with me to see bands they barely know. it was particularly fun talking mates into going to U2 360 with me. "the stage is 150 feet high dude!!" "they'll be 95 000 people at the show!" etc etc :D

i convinced 4 people :laugh3:

wow... that's great you can do that

for me I find that many times I'll go to shows alone because no one is interested in the band.

My parents ask why I would go alone, but I tell them that why should other people not wanting to go stop me?

I love going to concerts...honestly it's one of my favorite things to do.

I buy more CD now than few years ago. I didn't download music since I had a job and I can buy CD. Plus I'm afraid of those dematerialized things that can be lost at any time. I'd rather have an old scratched CD than a lost file.

And I go to too many concert (If I could there are 16 gigs before the end of the years :shocked2:) . But that so good.

i made an exception for laura marling earlier this year when i went alone. my parents found it a little odd too but the thing is even when i do go with mates to a gig i usually get separated from them in the pit. for me a concert is very much a personal experience, between me and the band. but it is nice to talk about it with friends afterwards.

aside from watching my beloved man utd play (from the other side of the world unfortunately) going to concerts is my favourite thing to do. it's where most of my pay goes and its well worth it. like today i spent over $200 on clothes and couldnt help but wonder how many great shows i couldve seen for that much money.

I don't see what's wrong with going to shows alone. I went to one a few months ago and I ended up meeting some people who i would later on become pretty good friends with!

This.

I don't see why you should let your friends decide if you go to a show or not. If you want to go, just go. I often go to concerts alone but also fairly often with a friend who has decent taste in music. Even though I enjoy sharing the experience I sometimes prefer going alone because it's such a personal experience.

Yup, exactly. I'm going alone to see a-ha this weekend. Because I fucking love that band so much I know that I won't regret it one bit. Their gig will suck me up and I won't even notice that I'm alone.

One reason why I like to go with friends is because if a gig is over at 1:00am or 2:00am I dont like being by myself downtown.

But I've never had problems going to shows with friends. I have a core group of concert going friends that are always up for show if they are around.

I don't really buy cds anymore. MP3s and Vinyl are more my thing.

And I go to many, many concerts. This year, I've seen so far:

Porcupine Tree

BigElf

Yes

Peter Frampton

Iron Maiden

Dream Theater

And I'm going to see Muse live on Monday, and Sarah McLachlan live in November.

There's something more satisfying about having a physical cd in your hand than buying mp3s. Concerts will never go out of style.

Buy CD's regularly. Try and have my fix of the Manics live when they are touring and the occasional other band, depending on who it is!

I go to shows all the time by myself. In fact, it's my favorite way to go. There are several reasons. First, if you using an automated ticketing system, an odd single in a fantastic location will often pop up when a pair is way further back. Also, I buy a lot of tickets from scalpers, and it's always easy to negotiate down a single ticket to a low, low price.

I also like to go really early to get in on all the pre-show hype and stay really late to see if I can meet the band. Not too many people I know are willing to put in that kind of time. Also, a lot my friends simply don't like the same music as me. It's either go alone or not go at all. I usually choose the former.

What often happens is a group of my concert going friends and I will meet up at a venue. We will all try to find ourselves an odd single ticket (good price and location) and meet up after the show. To me, I am most interested in seeing the band. I try to take everything in so that I can give an accurate account of the events I witnessed. I go to movies, out to dinner, etc. to be social, but I go to concerts to hopefully have a spiritual experience.

I still buy cd's, not all the cd's I'd like to buy though... it'd be too expensive.

I go to every concert I can go, since we live far from everything I just get the chance to go to around 4 or 5 concerts each year. I don't like local bands so that's all.

of course I still buy CD's. But I never had much of an opportunity to go to concerts.

I go to as many concerts and buy as many CDs as my budget allows! Which has been a fair bit this year but that will become less and less

About 1/4 of the music in my iTunes is music I've bought :\

That's what they all say...

I know exactly what you mean! I've probably gone to more (or at least as many) concerts by myself as with other people. My first ever concert I went by myself. I have a few friends with similar music tastes, but they just don't want to spend the money on gigs like I do. I don't really care though, I love meeting new people at concerts, and sometimes you can make some really good friends!

Going to concerts is one of my favourite things to do too, it's become my 'release' since I've been forced to give up the sport I love. I think that's why I've become so obsessed with them this past year. I think I've kind of shocked/surprised a lot of the people I've grown up with :P

its refreshing to see that there are so many people still buy cd's and appreciate their worth. but i wouldnt say this forum is a true microcosm of all music fans. a great bulk of the people i know find it rather humourous that i still buy cd's regularly whereas they just download it for free. nevertheless the heavily touted death of the cd is in my opinion no where in sight, if the industry handles things properly digital and physical music can co-exist.

i have a love/hate relationship with the current state of live music. i absolutely love it how bands do such massive tours, visiting places most bands wouldnt have 20yrs ago. artists are also putting way more effort into their stage shows which really has the ability to make an average act look really good. but i hate it how quickly shows sell out these days!!! really kills me.

I think that only a certain type of people respond to this thread, so it's not a good measurement of what's going on in the whole Coldplay community. Heh. but I think you guys can tell as well ¬¬

And now for someone who is not as strong as the rest of you...

I'll be honest - I don't really have the will to attend concerts alone, and I truly envy those of you who do. Heck, I almost sold my Arcade Fire tickets last week solely because I had nobody to go with (but I ended up having to sell them anyway since I had a school project going on that night). Even in that instance, I had the opportunity to nail a single pit ticket for the second night (a bunch were released the night before). Couldn't bring myself to do it and I'm now devastated and deeply regretting passing it up.

On the bright side, that may have been the very push I needed. I'm currently leaning toward buying a single ticket for Stars next month, even though tickets have been available for 3 months now, and the only reason I've held back is because none of my friends know who the hell they are, and the last time I introduced somebody to a new band by taking them to that band's show, they were a total killjoy the whole time. So I may do it.

On the topic of CD's, I bought a bunch up until about a year ago, and since then, I've bought maybe 5 CD's max, and those were only for bands I really, really like and likewise wanted physical copies of their material. Kind of a shame, but CD's can get expensive. Not as expensive as gigs, of course, but they're obviously different experiences.

You should try it, especially because you live in Southern California. We get so many great shows here that it's a shame to pass them up based on someone else's schedule or willingness to go.

Like I said before, I do other activities in order to be social. I go to a show because I am a die hard music fan, and that's probably the case for anyone who takes the time to post on a music message board. I guess I don't necessarily treat concert going as a social activity. I only want to go with other people who are interested in having the same type of experience as me. I do have some friends like that, but I can't track them down for every show I want to go to.

I really don't like going to concerts alone, because even though most of the times you end up separating from your friends during the concert it's still nice sharing the experience afterwards. Unfortunately, very few people I know share my taste in music and are not interested in spending that amount of money in going to a concert of someone they are not really into, which is understandable. Therefore, if nobody can go with me, I'll go anyways. I didn't go to see Oasis last time they were here because I didn't want to go alone and I totally regret it. I live too far away to miss seeing one of my favourite bands when they finally come here. You get few chances and they are not to be missed.

What are they into, then? Lady Gargoyle?

Bring Me The Horizon...Cancer Bats...Architects...Trash Talk...

Heard of them?
