November 10, 201015 yr Yo Beatles I'mma really happy for you and I'mma let you finish But Coldplay is the best band of ALL time OF ALL TIME!!!! :laugh3: dude will never be able to live that down will he?
November 10, 201015 yr Well put, thank you! :nice: +1 BEATLES WILL ALWAYS BE NUMBER ONE for the reasons given by footyfan !
November 10, 201015 yr ^+2 I Love Coldplay, I'm a pretty big fan but even I wouldn't go as far to say Coldplay were greater than the Beatles.This. Also, the Beatles were just named the greatest artist(s) of all time on that VH1 poll, and that was a poll taken of musicians, not just random people. I suppose Kanye did say "in 30 years", so we won't really know until that time. But again, as much as I love Coldplay... I don't think so. They wouldn't have existed without the Beatles' influence anyway.
November 10, 201015 yr I totally agree with Kanye. I already think Coldplay's music is more emotive and powerful than The Beatles. I think in the future they will definately be classed as musical greats.
November 10, 201015 yr I totally agree with Kanye. I already think Coldplay's music is more emotive and powerful than The Beatles. Hmm... Sorry, I can't agree. Coldplay (being one of my favourite bands) are of course very emotionally attached to me. However, I think that the Beatles have so much more than just emotion. They were groundbreaking and innovative. I definitely put Coldplay with them in terms of greatness of British bands but since Coldplay (as Carrie said) wouldn't exist without the Beatles that kind of makes them... Inferior, somehow. I think in the future they will definately be classed as musical greats. Now, this I can agree with! :nice:

Well yes I agree that the Beatles have a lot more than just emotion, but i don't agree that Coldplay wouldn't exist without the Beatles. All bands and artists have influences, even the Beatles. So for me, Coldplay have created their own style and I think they need to be judged fairly.

November 10, 201015 yr the idea of comparing the first real band with anyone who follows is honestly pointless. people always do this - so an so is better than the beatles. well the thing is, the beatles made music like this first. and the beatles, to this day, were more experimental than i see coldplay ever being. if you want to compare pure songwriting ability, you'd have to compare mccartney to chris, and that to me is still the same thing - the beatles did it first. obviously, i think coldplay are very different from the beatles, but they evolved from them just as almost any other modern band has. i wish some would also consider how prolific the beatles were in their short time together. coldplay have been around about as long as the beatles and they've made 4 LPs. the more real comparison for a band like coldplay would be U2 - NOT MUSICALLY CRAZY U2 HATERS - just in terms of impact and general quality. and honestly, i don't see coldplay being remembered as better than u2. they've got to do some serious work to be in that league of remembrance. UNDERSTAND, i like coldplay more than u2, there's nothing biased about my statements. <-- I only say these things because there are some people on this thread who flip out at comparisons. as for a coldplay/kanye ALBUM collaboration...please no. if coldplay actually want to be remembered, they'd be best not to do something like that. fortunately, i don't see them doing anything like that. a track here or there is the nice sort of throwaway to show they're open minded without throwing away their musical credibility. I understand what you are saying, but when you said that Coldplay now has been around as long as the Beatles were, and have only made 4 albums, remember that the Beatles rarely toured. Coldplay has spent years on the road over the last 10 years. Not saying that's bad, but the Beatles music was so innovative for their time, that a lot of their sound simply could not be recreated on stage - back in the 60s, the technology just wasn't there to translate a studio sound to a live stage. So they had way more time to write and record. The Beatles released their first album in 1963 - 47 years ago! Just because the Beatles did something "first" shouldn't discount the abilities of those who have followed. Yes, they were great, they opened the doors (and minds) for countless musicians and fans, no one in the world will dispute that. But to me, it's almost like saying, for example, that the Model A (the first car ever sold in the US) was a great car that no other car will be able to match simply because it was the first. How can you compare a Model A with a luxury car of today? Also, U2 has been around for over 30 years. I saw them way back in 1982, when they were the opening band for The J Geils Band. Hopefully, Coldplay will have the staying power that U2 has had, but we've all read/heard the interviews where Chris says they won't record past their 30s or so? U2 has been working on their fan base for years, and they are still being "discovered" by the later generations. Going to a U2 concert is like going to any concert of a band that has been together for that many years, you have the "mature" audience who have been fans since the 80s and the teens and college-agers who are discovering their genius now. The wider audience leads to more ticket sales which is why I think the 360 Tour had such incredible ticket sales (and tix prices were so high). Ten years is a long time these days for a band to be around - so many one-or-two-hit wonders...but look at the greats, the ones who are still recording and touring...Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Bon Jovi, AC/DC, and of course U2. Coldplay is still "young" compared to them and still has plenty of time to continue to grow and evolve and experiment. I've loved to see their progression. And really, no one knows what they are capable of, I still think they haven't reached their full potential and great things are still to come.

All bands and artists have influences, even the Beatles. So for me, Coldplay have created their own style and I think they need to be judged fairly. Well, maybe I phrased myself badly. I think that the Coldplay that we know today wouldn't be the same we would know if Beatles hadn't existed. They did more than just influence Coldplay, I think, they changed an entire music scene. And of course Coldplay needs to be judged fairly - just as any serious band out there needs to be.

I'm glad to be part of a forum where people can express their opinions. I absolutely agree with this as well. I feel kind of torn now!

I have to agreed with this Coldplay is very good but like there is already said here The Beatles were one of the best bands we ever will know. Hopefully we can say the same about Coldplay over some years but we have to wait till then
November 10, 201015 yr I have to agreed with this Coldplay is very good but like there is already said here The Beatles were one of the best bands we ever will know. Hopefully we can say the same about Coldplay over some years but we have to wait till then I agree with all this too. The Beatles have influenced and have an inpact on music, musicians and people for generations. Coldplay is a great band and they have also influenced other atists and people, but the inpact they have had on the world of music in general cannot be compared to the one the Beatles had. I also believe Coldplay has a great potential and that they are still a pretty young band, if you compare them to bands like U2 and Bon Jovi, and so they still have a long way to go. We are being influenced by them now, let's see what happens in 20 years. I believe they can do great things. The Beatles are The Beatles, though.
November 10, 201015 yr Coldplay and The Beatles are my 2 favorites bands ever! But I know The Beatles has not comparation. I don't agree this time. :disappointed:
November 10, 201015 yr I'm glad Kanye does have this kind of respect on Coldplay, but this has gone too far. :|
November 10, 201015 yr Damn, thats quite a praise, but an album with Linking Park, Kanye and Coldplay? I think thats too many people to ever agree on something, but it sure would be interesting. Brian Eno would kill himself having to put up with them all though haha
November 10, 201015 yr thats is the best compliment...coldplay is the like the modern beatles but more coldplay-ish...so the beatles are better than coldplay like 30 years back...but as of today...its coldplay's turn :D Love coldplay til the day i die!
November 10, 201015 yr no... just no. I love Coldplay don't get me wrong, I think it's something more related to my feelings than to their actual talent but the beatles are just something else. If you listen to The Beatles you'll see they changed a lot over the years and you can find lots of different kinds of music in their albums, but Coldplay is a bit repetitive in my opinion and that's why they will never be the greatest band ever. Probably Coldplay will be forgotten in 30 years while there are millions of young Beatles fans everywhere and i'm sure their music will still be remembered in 50 or 100 years from now. Coldplay's music more powerful than The Beatles' music? Best joke I've heard here in a while
November 10, 201015 yr But to me, it's almost like saying, for example, that the Model A (the first car ever sold in the US) was a great car that no other car will be able to match simply because it was the first. i agree with this. also, along with the argument that Coldplay wouldn't have existed without the Beatles, it's kinda like saying no child could ever possibly be better than their parents. :P
November 10, 201015 yr Although kanye west is the biggest idiot out there, he might have actually said something sensible this time:rolleyes:
November 10, 201015 yr i agree with this. also, along with the argument that Coldplay wouldn't have existed without the Beatles, it's kinda like saying no child could ever possibly be better than their parents. :P don't agree with that better things can always come , if ur not completely satisfied with what has been. It's strange to say that bands will never be better than groups like the beatles and Rolling stones .. because they easily can be with new instruments, technology, new music or simply more talent. Plus i dont think that if they wouldn't have existed that coldplay wouldn't have created their music.. because music constantly evolves .. maybe people get their influences but then you'd have to say that without elvis presley the beatles wouldn't exist ! i believe in individual quality and talent of bands/artists which can always be better or wors than the old ones .
November 11, 201015 yr I think i like Kanye a little better now... everyone just wait.. in 30 years they'll be on the same field as the beatles
November 11, 201015 yr Ha ha, the ad at the top of my page right now: The Beatles: The Original Greatest Hits Remastered (buy now on Amazon.com)
