January 4, 201115 yr How the fuck can Chris Martin and Coldplay go from collaborating with the likes of Ian McCulloch and writing songs for Jonny Cash and performing with Elton John on stage to singing duets with Beyonce, making crap collaborations with Jay Z (and I'm sorry Lost+ was just shit and the whole luvvy duvvy thing between him and Chris almost ruined the Viva era) and rumours of a further one with Rihanna?!! I'm going insane here! Just LOOK at yourselves for one second Chris Martin.
January 5, 201115 yr I wish I knew the answer myself :blank: I don't like JayZ either and don't really care about Rihanna that much, but maybe they do and that's why they want to do those duets. Even though it's not the kind of music I generally like, lots of people do like them.
January 5, 201115 yr I completely agree with you (even though I thought Lost was pretty good) I think they are doing this to appeal to a more mainstream audience  Jay Z wants to record a whole album with Chris, I really hope this isn't true. I honestly think that Chris feels he can't say no to his friend, so he just does what Jay asks. I hope Chris learns how to say no before the next album comes out!
January 5, 201115 yr I prefer lost+ to the VLV version. It's all about your tastes in music. I've never heard any of Jay-Z's other stuff but I like a lot of kanye so getting into Lost+ was easy for me. Music is so opinionated, but c'mon... It doesn't really matter. I mean, he dueted with kylie and look how that turned out. Lhuna is awful.
January 5, 201115 yr i think Chris is just a musical whore and so he doesn't really care as long as he's making music :P
January 5, 201115 yr I prefer the old Coldplay the one we all love and agree with!!! but it's true that they earned a lot of new fans with these. and lost a lot too, remember all these people who left CPing because of these collaborations!? I think Coldplay is WAAAAAAAAAAY better than any artist now but come on Coldplay back then you were better (2000->2005) Parachutes, AROBTTH and X&Y were waaaaaay better than VLVODAAOHF!! but just please I beg you...NOT RIHANNA
January 5, 201115 yr well we need to understand that they (or just Chris) enjoy other music too, except for rock, or pop/rock, whatever... Chris enjoys hip-hop,r'n'b and stuff, I'd say. So we have to understand these collaborations. See it is like a sort of a side project for him, like Guy has Apparatjik - honestly, could you imagine Coldplay doing some music like that? It's really different. If they started doing hip hop, r'n'b flavored music, that would be a bigger issue... although even then we would just have to deal with it - cuz people evolve, and artists do too. ;)

But I just feel that era was let down by Chris Martin trying too hard to get in with the American market (and in the process forgetting their home market and influences) so Jay Z comes into the picture. I don't mind Jay Z. I don't listen to his music or anything and I think the contrast is interesting but why stop collaborating with the people who influenced you like Ian McCulloch or Richard Ashcroft or Noel Gallagher (he pines to produce a Coldplay record!). I loved the X&Y era and previous because there we always got to see Chris and the boys performing alongside someone like Richard Ashcroft which was bloody cool. To me it just seems that Chris is only interested in inviting the likes of Jay Z and friends. I mean come on! Coldplay and Richard Ashcroft playing Bittersweet Symphony with Richard Ashcroft at Live 8 or Chris Martin playing Halo with Beyonce?? Chris and Jonny with Noel Gallagher performing Live Forever and In My Place or Coldplay with Jay Z playing Lost+?? The only saving collab from the Viva era was Chris playing Hunting High and Low with Mags from a-ha.
January 5, 201115 yr thought vlvodaahf was incredible, definitely my favorite...but who cares about who they write songs FOR or who the sing with on stage, songs that they write for other people are just one of many songs that chris deems not good enough for coldplay, and performing on stage with people is for the crowds enjoyment. i thought jay z did pretty good on lost but i dont want and hip hop artists or rappers on another song eithter, especially someone like rihanna. (wonder if theres a bunch of people on a jay z fansite having an argument like "how the f*** are u gonna collaborate with CHRIS MARTIN wtf?)
January 5, 201115 yr Chris Martin loves the attention. exactly and her son loves the songs from Jay-Z. so what ?
January 5, 201115 yr If they started doing hip hop, r'n'b flavored music, that would be a bigger issue... although even then we would just have to deal with it - cuz people evolve, and artists do too. ;) yes, when U2 sang One with Mary J Blige. it's not ridiculous the mix of musical cultures, that's fine, and gives good sounds
January 5, 201115 yr If Chris Martin duetted with Rihanna I would die inside. If he did that then why doesn't he just go the full hog and write a song with David FUCKING Guetta!
January 5, 201115 yr but it's true that they earned a lot of new fans with these. and lost a lot too, remember all these people who left CPing because of these collaborations!? I am very sorry. but it is not fans, is superficial fans be no more a fan, because of collaborations ? Viva La Vida is exactly like Parachutes .
January 5, 201115 yr I'm cool with Jay Z, I'm even cool with Beyonce but Rihanna would be taking it a tad too far in my opinion.
January 5, 201115 yr Is David Guetta a race? lol this made me laugh so hard! :laugh3::laugh3::laugh3:
January 5, 201115 yr This entire thread is based off a rumor that Chris is doing a duet with Rihanna? ....mmmmmmmmkay. I dont care for Jay Z much either but I also realize Chris can and will collab with whoever he wants ....the collabs with Micheal Stipe and Rom Sexsmith were nice IMO. Also saying that Chris collabs with certain artists purely for the attention is rediculous yet not surprising considering whos suggesting it. Chris obviously is from what I can tell extremely open minded when it comes to music, especially nowadays. The mash ups and collaborations he does with people who I and whoever else deems unworthy is the result of him not being half as musically discerning as I'd like him to be most people are. Having voiced my opinion on the matter I also thought I might add that complaining on this forum wouldnt do anything to change things if in fact he did want to collab with Rihanna. Which is a shame because if Coldplay stopped using their crew as a buffer between them and the fans I think they could benefit from what some of them have to say.
January 5, 201115 yr Just because we don't like certain artists doesn't mean that Coldplay or Chris can't appreciate them or collaborate with them.

I'm not at all saying that Chris Martin shouldn't be collaborating with these artists. Indeed it is good that he is doing so but why does it have to be with the same artist(s) for the past couple of years. Doesn't sound like variation to me.
