March 28, 201115 yr Any news on who will be playing at the Olympic 2012 opening and closing ceremonies? Aside from the obvious reasons why I'd like to see Coldplay there I think they should be invited because: - they're one of Britain's biggest ever bands - they have true international appeal, whilst being definitely British in character - I'd rather see them than some of the other names suggested - Chris has the self deprecation and humour that we'll need for our games ! :)
March 28, 201115 yr peter andre is the torch bearer anyway. Of all people PETER ANDRE! typical britain. We always have the quality but always end up going for the bottom of the pile of shit :(

But back on topic, i'd love to see Coldplay performing but I think Paul Mcartney or someone or another band of the same stature deserve to perform. Not that Coldplay don't deserve it but the likes of The Beatles influenced the music of today and I think it would be nice to give something back to the likes of the older bands maybe
March 28, 201115 yr They won't play as people see them as 'depressing' there'll probably have some pop singer and someone like Paul McCartney or some other big band like U2 I'm not really sure :\
March 29, 201115 yr - Chris has the self deprecation and humour that we'll need for our games ! :) Huh???
April 2, 201115 yr Author They won't play as people see them as 'depressing' there'll probably have some pop singer and someone like Paul McCartney or some other big band like U2 I'm not really sure :\ Coldplay often get stick for that in the UK, but I don't agree. Their last album -VLV is indeed quite dark in its theme - but it also has Strawberry Swing and Lovers in Japan, too decidely optimistic tracks. People forget the sunny optimism of Parachutes. Listen to it again. It's like the musical equivalent of strong sunshine. I've often said Chris has an uncanny knack of reflecting the mood of the times with the music he writes. They were young in 2000 and we were genuinely optimistic as a country in the UK at that time. By 2008 we'd grown disillusioned with two wars and the economic mood was darkening too. Coldplay reflect life and are not 'depressing'. They reflect life in all its moods.
April 2, 201115 yr Author Huh??? I have a feeling we'll need lots of self-deprecation for these Olympics and our good sense of humour. The Olympic countdown clock has already stopped....
April 8, 201115 yr Coldplay asked to perform London 2012 Olympic anthem COLDPLAY have been asked to open the London 2012 Games – performing a specially-written official Olympics anthem. The historic performance at the opening ceremony could reach a record TV audience of two billion. Bosses behind the Games have appointed arts charity The Dartington Hall Trust to commission the track – to be called Welcome Song. And industry insiders say Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, 34, is No.1 on Olympic organisers’ most-wanted list. An insider revealed: “Chris is at the top of the list to front the official record. He’s a huge star and a British musical icon, with an international profile. We’re pulling out all the stops to get hold of him, ideally with the rest of Coldplay involved, too. “Coldplay are the biggest stadium rockers in Britain today and their style of anthemic music would be perfect for the Olympics. It needs to be something inspirational. The hope is that they would perform at the opening ceremony, as well as produce a recording of the track, which could help fund good causes in British sport.” The’ opening ceremony on July 27, 2012, is being masterminded by Trainspotting and Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle. Others being approached are soul singer Joss Stone, electro-rockers Muse, and Britpop’s Damon Albarn. Olympics spokesman Richard Crowe confirmed the Cultural Olympiad was looking for a contemporary artist, such as Coldplay or Muse. But the final decision was up to the Trust. A spokesman said it was looking for the right artist – but it was early days. http://www.mirror.co.uk/
April 8, 201115 yr Contactmusic.com Rockers Coldplay and Muse, and fellow British star Joss Stone, are among the acts who are lined up to perform at the opening of the 2012 Olympics in London. The Yellow hitmakers are reportedly top of organisers' wish-list of acts to perform a specially-written track for the opening ceremony of the prestigious sporting event. Soul singer Stone, Supermassive Black Hole rockers Muse, and Blur frontman Damon Albarn are also in the running to join a star-studded line-up at the launch of the event in July next year (12). A source tells Britain's Daily Mirror, "Coldplay are the biggest stadium rockers in Britain today, and their style of anthemic music would be perfect for the Olympics. "(The opening song) needs to be something inspirational. The hope is that they would perform at the opening ceremony, as well as produce a recording of the track, which could help fund good causes in British sport."
April 8, 201115 yr I thought this was guff talk to begin with. Didn't know it may actually happen! Too right as they are and always have been a London band but also an international one as well. Obviously they should write the song themselves but for a band as big as them I don't think any band in the world will have had as big a gig as this one. Performing in front of billions around the world and world leaders within the stadium. I'd be shitting myself!
April 8, 201115 yr How about a Coldplay with Muse performance. That would be orgasmic and would rip the roof off heaven.
April 8, 201115 yr I really hope it's not Coldplay... or anyone else I like for that matter. Cause then, that'd mean, I'd have to watch the Olympics. :uhoh:.
April 8, 201115 yr Ooh! I thought this might happen :wacky: I bet they're honored to be asked, and I think it would be awesome, because I'm an Olympics nerd, and to add Coldplay into that would be awesome for me. I wonder if they'd accept it? I feel like they'd be fools not to, and get bad press for it, but imagine the pressure...I see Chris absolutely freaking already, haha.
April 8, 201115 yr I'm sure they will, they really enjoy sport and competitions... And they're not afraid of doing something huge I would also like it - I hate Olympics, but whatever can get me a new Coldplay song is welcome
April 8, 201115 yr they shouldn't...is going way too much into mainstream... I don't think it is mainstream. The Olympic opening ceremony is a spectacular world wide event which brings all countries together. I think it's an honour of what is a very multi cultural event is the Olympics and what Danny Boyle (opening ceremony director) and organisers want is the best of British for the opening ceremony. That's a compliment to Coldplay.
April 8, 201115 yr And whoever it is performing it can only be better than the official handover ceremony at the closing ceremony in Beijing. Anyone remember that? A double decker bus with children dancing around it only for the top to blow open (remember this was 3 years after the London bombings when one bomb was placed in a double decker bus blowing the roof clean off!) to reveal David Beckham kicking a football into the crowd and Jimmy Page and Leona Lewis singing a unheard distorted version of Whole Lotta Love. Disaster.
April 8, 201115 yr I really hope it's not Coldplay... or anyone else I like for that matter. Cause then, that'd mean, I'd have to watch the Olympics. :uhoh:. You would only need to watch the opening ceremony my dear, you don't have to watch anything else.
