What's the best british band at the moment?

Featured Replies

A fanboy would say something like The King Of Limbs is the best album released by anyone since In Rainbows as you stated on The Suburbs v TKOL thread. That seems pretty fanboyish to me. Could very well be what you believe but it's just your opinion and not a fact. You seem to have difficulty realising your opinion from fact.

I don't think you know what a fanboy is.

In my opinion it is the best album since In Rainbows, incidentally.

As for realising opinion from fact go look over your posts.

If that's what you think so be it.

Four Tet was a good call.

Gorillaz are doing well.

An Antony & The Johnson's Mercury music prize win makes him eligible too, but I'm sure people wouldn't be happy for me to throw him into the ring haha.

Chemical Brothers.

Massive Attack.

Euphemism ahoy?

Superb Mark.

Actually, who won the last Mercury Prize (The XX wasn't it?), according to that reputable awards committee it would have to be somebody who has released an album since that was awarded or them themselves.

I don't think The XX (if they won it) are the best British band of the moment, by the way.

Superb Mark.

:smug:

The Mercury Prize is extremely overrated. :dozey:

Burial was nominated for the Mercury prize :surprised: Which is amazing considering the album was made by some lonely guy on a shitty computer :P

The XX are pretty cool but not too amazing. I also REALLY hope they don't release anything more. It's perfect the way it is. Just like the Young Marble Giants.

I tried to like Burial. It didn't work :(

I reckon you're digging your own grave by calling yourself Burial..................... :dozey:

or putting yourself in a fridge if you're called coldplay

or sticking you head inside of a radio if you're called... nah forget it...

Why hasn't anyone said Fearn Britton's gastric band yet?

They are a great contribution to the music scene particularly in the 90s and their first two albums but after that they only seemed to satisfy hardcore fans with albums like Be Here Now (an overblown drug induced mess), Heathen Chemistry, Standing on the Shoulders of Giants and Dig Out Your Soul. Their best album other than their first two is undoubtedly 2005's Don't Believe The Truth which sounded like a Kinks album that never was. It was so much more refreshing than anything they'd done since (WTS)MG. Noel Gallagher is a fantastic songwriter and one of the very best to have come out of Britain. I'm glad he's gone solo now so he can sing his own songs and produce his own songs without the standard rock n roll template he felt the needed to serve with Oasis. His solo album (apparently being recorded alongside The Future Sound of London aka Amorphous Androgynous) should be pretty good.

But in the 90s they were great icons and the leaders of the Britpop movement. Can't fault a band who produced in my view the greatest debut album of all time. Immense live band as well but if you caught them on a day they couldn't be bothered then bad luck. But yeah iconic and great. Although you can't help thinking they could have done even better.

but if you caught them on a day they couldn't be bothered then bad luck.

Or if you had tickets to see them on a day Liam was incapacitated for whatever reason (happened to me twice).:dozey:

Therefore I never got to see them.
