April 7, 201115 yr Not really, but if you enjoy him then good for you. I don't enjoy him I just respect him. Yeah I'd like to see the bass come out more in Coldplay but it doesn't keep me awake at night because Chris Martin's songwriting is that good.

Arguably the best three personally were the 60s trio of The Beatles, Rolling Stones and The Kinks. Sublime stuff from all three. What gets me is how The Kinks are never mentioned by music fans today. They don't know what they're missing out. They are undoubtedly up there in that exclusive group with The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.

Don't think there ever will be. No band today can be compared with them or The Beatles contemporaries from the 60s for that matter. The only bands you can put alongside them are the bands that succeeded alongside them in the 60s and continue to succeed today such as The Kinks, Rolling Stones, Beach Boys. It was an enlightenment period for music as they pioneered and shaped music for what it is today. The bands today can thank and look up to those bands.

But Radiohead haven't revolutionised the music scene like those bands did in the 60s. U2 can be lauded for the same reasons for their creativity and innovation, more than any band of the past 30 years probably, but at the same time they're not revolutionaries (perhaps U2 can be considered revolutionaries of the live show though with ZooTV onwards) While you can rank them as the best of their era it is impossible to rank them higher than the likes of The Beatles (obviously) etc. Bands like Radiohead are sculptors but they are not and never were pioneers in the sense The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Beach Boys and The Kinks were. April 7, 201115 yr Right now of this very moment and currently going? Mumford and Sons are white hot, put out one of the best albums of the last couple of years, and reportedly play live better than almost anyone out there at this particular moment. That said, the British scene does seem to be regrouping at the moment. The big new acts have finally gotten a toehold overseas and the big trends of the past few years are fading. It will be interesting to see what comes next.

April 7, 201115 yr British bands have been extremely uninteresting for the past few years. HOWEVER, the electronic music scene has been extremely interesting! The 'post-dubstep' scene in London is probably one of the best things in music atm. Burial, Four Tet, Joker, Kode 9 ETC. Burial's first album was one of the most revolutionary/pioneering/whatever albums since atleast Kid A. Seriously, I rate this up there with those best albums of all time. It's just as good as The Beatles and I think it is even more interesting. Music is evolving. FUCK DAT OLD SHIT. what am i even saying burial is one of the greatest musicians of all time. and he knows nothing about music. April 7, 201115 yr Only problem I have w/ burial is from what I've heard from him sounds all the same. They had Burial on before Flying Lotus opened for Atoms for Peace and I swear it was like the same song for an hour. I don't mind his music after like 10 mins, but then to me it get a bit too monotonous.
April 7, 201115 yr Yeah I get what you mean. I guess this is because he does not actually know much about music and as far as I know he uses just one piece of software. Far more restrictive than guitars etc. I dunno, I can't see him changing his sound. His new tracks are a bit more clubby/four tet-y than his older stuff but yeah.
