Heyyyy! I'm Naomi, your mixtape maker :D

I found it quite hard to make this mixtape because we seem to have a lot of fave bands in common - Killers, Snow Patrol, Kings of Leon etc. I even had to steal some music from my sister :laugh3: And when I had to stalk you and I saw DOM in your avatar I think I squeed lol :P

want me to reccommend further listening, just say :)

 I can't believe I couldn't tell the difference between QotSA and TCV... I have them both on my iPod. And it's Josh Homme so my mind becomes addled with him anyway.

I didn't even realise John Frusciante did solo things! Ahhh, I am so excite, going to definitely have to look up some more stuff

I also love the fact that I know The Reindeer Section but didn't know this song-- I guess minus Gary's voice I completely flounder and fail on recognising them

Thanks once again, and I will be checking out some of the bands for sure.

Also, you have superb musical taste then  (Maybe that's me being biased :laugh3:)

^^ hehe thanks :D Do you like Arctic Monkeys? Because I was going to put Alex solo on the tape but I was worried you would know it :\

"Through With You" is a great M5 choice, Naomi.

Thanks! :cheesy: I didn't know which one to choose because I love that whole album ! :)

This is off-topic - but this whole discussion about Keane - have you guys heard this song? They performed it a few times last year and I really love it :) I think it sounds a lot more like "classic" Keane - no rapping etc :laugh3:

And I watched a recent-ish interview with Tim and he said he's trying to make the lyrics for the new album more "universal". He also said the sound might be more like UTIS  yay!

Mixtape maker: review coming in next few days :) I'm really sorry I'm taking ages:embarrassed:

M5 have been one of my favorites for a long time. They were the first act I really got into when I started to listen to popular music.

Oh, God, what did Tom do to his hair!? D: That's atrocious. Having said that, yes, it has a lovely classic Keane vibe to it. Thanks for sharing the vid!

^^ I do like the Arctic Monkeys, but I've only heard a few of Alex's solo tracks actually. I should probably look at more.

Oh gosh, that haircut  didn't he have long-ish hair? (Or am I just confusing them with, oh idk, every other indie band of the age) I like the track though. And people were right, I started at the beginning and worked my way forward and remembered why I haven't listened in a while. The dramatic shift confused me. It's like different bands.

Maroon 5 are good, I still haven't got Hands All Over though. I might have to see how much it is on iTunes or how much I can get a physical copy for. (I think though my brother got me an iTunes voucher for my birthday so I might use that :laugh3:)

^Alex's solo EP is magic, you should definitely listen to it!

yeah I'm sorry guys. You two are the only ones that are still waiting for their tapes. I'll send out PM's again maybe in a day or two.

Awww, poor Aussies.

Haha, wierd.

No, Tom had long hair (at least, at one point).

Yeah, exactly! The older stuff was great; why would you change it that much to where it just, for lack of a better word, failed? :\

YOU MUST GET IT. /biased.

Haha, wierd.

Maybe a little.

argh okay I meant to review my mixtape tonight, but apparently I'm going to a movie so I probably can't

I'll just say to my no-doubt eagerly-waiting mixtape maker: I like the middle the best, and have mixed feelings about the rest. Some of it is quite good! Some of it isn't to my taste. Mixed bag. Nice tape overall. (I've listened once in broken-up sections, but I'd like to listen again before reviewing.)

To whoever made my mixtape.... I won't be able to review it til after the weekend. Not at my computer/going away for the weekend.

Sorry!

I'll review my tape asap.

No worries mixtape maker ;)

Here is my review!! I am so sorry about the lateness!:embarrassed: But I always give it quite a few listens to get the feel of it:)

TRACK 101-nice little intro.

TRACK 102- Good song to start the mixtape with – mid-tempo with multiple harmonising male voices. I like this.:)

TRACK 103- The voice sounds familiar – is it Doves? This song is really sad.

TRACK 104- hmm, not sure about this. I’m not that big on female vocals and I find this a bit annoying. Especially the wailing bit at the end! I can’t understand what’s she’s saying – is it “come on daddy”??:laugh3:

TRACK 105- I wasn’t sure at first about this at first– the vocals are quite different- but when it kicks in at around 1:25 I started to love it and it’s probably one of my faves on here. I have absolutely no idea who it, my sister says it sounds like Smashing Pumpkins (but I don’t really know what they sound like!) Gets better at every listen.

TRACK 106- This is U2. Don’t know the song, but Bono’s voice is really nice in this. 3rd listen – I think this is a slow burner – really love this! Just remembered I don’t own any U2 albums!:o

TRACK 107- This song has me intrigued. I want to hear more of the vocals because I really like the singer’s voice but the music is really good as well.

TRACK 108- Not really sure what to think of this one. It kinda sounds like a song from a musical at the beginning, and the voice seems somewhat familiar but I don’t know who it is? I found this going round and round and round my head!

TRACK 109- Radiohead-Separator! I love this song! One of the highlights from TKOL, I think. Just perfect.

TRACK 201- a quiet one. I can imagine listening this to relax, it’s really beautiful.

TRACK 202- slinky female vocal. Not really my kinda thing but I still prefer this than 104!

TRACK 203- ooh piano intro! Sounds like it should be a soundtrack for a film. I love the vocals – male, maybe American? I really love this – simple but lovely.

TRACK 204- ooh promising intro, wicked bass , guitar etc. I feel like I’ve heard this before somewhere? Like the distortion on the voice, I think this may be a grower.

TRACK 205- !!:D:D I think I squeed when I heard this! Keane-The Iron Sea! Ooh, and it’s Magic Shop Version! Yep I’m a Keane geek! Haven’t heard this in ages. Mixtape maker you must be a Keane fan? :D :D

TRACK 206 - This has a country vibe. This guy is singing with passion! I like the unpolished feel, it sounds like a live take.

TRACK 207- This guy has a good voice! Has a classic feel to it and I like the lyrics.:)

TRACK 208 – I love this – I’m a sucker when it comes to piano. Yep this definitely my kind of thing! It has a haunted feel to it..but what is it?

TRACK 209 – perfect ending to this tape, an otherworldly instrumental..

Well...I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this. I love the variety of stuff you chose and I can’t wait for the tracklisting because I want to check some more out! :D I hope my review was OK. :D

Review for my tape nicely titled 'The sound of a new dawn'

1-Cover of Bon Iver's 'Skinny love'. Girl singing (she seems young?), dunno who this is but she has a pretty good voice, she's only accompagnied by a piano. It's a very moving cover!

2-Mellow track piano driven, kinda jazzy. Male singing, dunno who this is. I really like the lyrics. Nice track.

3-Still 'mellow'. I like the violin cripping from now and then, still dunno who is this male singing. Nice but I'm not a big fan of it.

4-Accordeon for starter and then wosh of sound! Harmony of voices singing. This song has a positiv feel through it! The vocals are gripping and the melody is joyfull! Nice one.

5-Some electronica/weirdo song with female synthetised/whispering vocals. It could be featuring in a SF movie. Not a big fan of it but I reckon it's catchy.

6-Pretty catchy pop-rock song. Dunno who this is but it's very easy to the ear and radio friendly. Like it.

7- Old french song (30-40's I guess by the sound of it)! Is the mixtaper french?! I am, so no problem to understand that one :) Don't recognise who is singing. This could be part of my grandmother disc collection, I like it.

8- classic music tune. Seems like either a ballet extract or a movie track. I tend to think of the former. Love it.

9-Piano track with female singing, the song becomes more epic as it goes on with powerful drum beat. I dunno who is singing but it's a cool song!

10-accoustic guitar/folky tune. Sounds kinda like Bon Iver and I like it!

11-Mellow rock/ballad track. Dunno who this is (again XD). It's radio friendly and could easily featured in a TV show or movie. Nice one.

12-Nice pop-rock accoustic song. Easy to the hear but it didn't make quite an impression on me...

13-Soft track with female singing. Her voice rings a bell, but I can't put my finger on it. It's dreamy and melancholic.

14- Aching duet between a man and a woman. Sounds like a musical track. It has a 'Fantom of the Opera' feeling (never seen it) but I guess it what it could sound. Nice.

Overall, a very nice tape, I really enjoyed it!! Curious to know all these artists I don't know!! Thx mixtaper!

impatient teenager

Here's my review! :D

Track 1 - Fun opening track. All guitary and shit. Didn't like it much at first but I'm a little more into it now. Good decision to make this the first one.

Track 2 - White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane. Jefferson Airplane's cool, my dad has a vinyl of theirs from the 60's that I've listened to once or twice. I like this song <3

Track 3 - Doesn't do much for me. Just feels kinda like another boring guy-vocalist-guitar-rock song. It isn't bad or anything, it's just that the lyrics aren't special, the instrumentation isn't special... it's just blah for me.

Track 4 - I really like this song! I'm not sure why cuz it's basically just beeping, haha, but I really dig it. Makes me wanna know who the artist is in case they're a prolific beepy-track composer that's all good and shit.

Track 5 - SAD PANO  IN A MINOR KEY :( I think I like this song too. I know I like the background instrumentation, it's kind of hypnotic and I like it. Jury's still out on the vocalist but he isn't bad, I just can't decide how much I like his voice (it usually takes me forever to decide if I like guy singers' voices or not).

Track 6 - Weird to have this upbeat track after the last one. But it's all cool. It has whistling at the beginning! :cheesy: Actually the whistling sounds weird, they must have done something to it, because at first I thought it was a theremin >.> (I really like theremins fyi). Kinda funky track. I like this one too I think.

Track 7 - Can't decide what I think of this one. Kinda weird song. There's definitely a theremin at the end when it all breaks down though, which I heavily approve of. The talking at the end seems a little pretentious, though. Then at the very end they start singing again? And it just cuts off? Kinda weird. S'all good though. I like it overall, but it's weird (which isn't bad)

Track 8 - Vocalist reminds me an awful lot of Guy Garvey, but I don't think it's him (the accent isn't right, plus the rest of the song isn't really like an Elbow song). Slow balladey type song. I'm not very partial to it but I've been warming up to it since I first heard it so I might end up liking it more later.

Track 9 - The singer has a weird voice. :wtf: I don't think I like it. (Like I mentioned, I can be really persnicketty with vocalists.) Not a bad song but I don't like the vocals, so. If I get used to them I bet I'll like it, though.

Track 10 - Lyrics in this song are wtf. "Under the eaves of that old lime tree/I stood examining the fruit/Some were ripe and some were rotten/I felt nauseous with the truth/There will never be a time more opportune." What??? Hahaha. Eh song.

Track 11 - Creepy-sounding song. I like the "aaaahaahhahahhwoahh" stuff. (Haha, I'm unsure how else to put it.) Good track, I like this one, and the creepy vibe it has going with it.

Track 12 - I like this one too. The instrumentation is interesting, there's some brassy instrument (I can never tell my brasses apart ) and violins and all sorts of interesting shit like that. Good song.

Track 13 - I like this song also! It's pretty short but in a cute way. I like how it's all about seasons and stuff. It's super cute. <3

Pretty good mix. I wanna know who a lot of the artists are and who made it and stuff. This'll be exciting!

Sara, I believe you meant Guy Garvey, with a G. Having said that, I kinda really wanna know that Track 8 artist now. I love me some Garveh.

EDIT: HAHA, Will. I was wondering when you were gonna show up. xD
