That track flowed better with the theme of the mix tape, I guess.

But why don't you particularly like it?

It's not that I don't like it. It just doesn't appeal to me as much as most of their other tracks.

i'm going to be sending out PM's tomorrow to people that haven't sent me mixtpaes yet

He does have quite the voice... I didn't like it at first either. Than I gave their albums a full listen and now I absolutely love them.

Thanks for listening. I can see that it's not a lot of people's kind of music, but I figured I'd give those songs a try because you never know, maybe people would like it who generally wouldn't listen to that type or genre. As I noticed ivet didn't listen to any of those bands, but I wanted to do that just in case she may like something... but obviously not.

I say good on you for doing something different.

^What he said.

You put a mixtape together that you thought someone would like and also tried to open them up to something not in their library.

Not your fault they reacted that way.

woops! have been so busy with school that I forgot the deadline was yesterday. Gonna make it up though. I'll send it in tomorrow ! Promised

I can go through each and every song if you would like me too, and review separately.

I understand the just one paragraph was kind of unfair. But I wouldn't mind doing it if that's what you want.

No it's okay, as long as you enjoyed the tape that's the main thing.

1. This song is in a commercial here I think, I dont know the name but I’ve Heard it before. Good piano song, I feel like this mixtape will be very relaxing… I guess :P

2. The National! One of my favorite bands now. This is Slow Show. I love the lyrics, specially that part “you know I dreamed about you, for 29 years before I saw you”, I’m cheesy like that.

3. The voice sounds kind of familiar but I don’t know this song. I like it… Elbow maybe?

4. Another song that I don’t know, not even familiar with the voice, sounds like the songs I like to hear in the morning, a happy sound :cheesy: I think this will be for some time in my itunes library :P

5. Happy song. I like the ermm trumpet? I suck at music I can barely recognize instruments :shame: I know it’s not Travis but sounds like Why Does It Always Rain On Me a bit.

6. It’s not a band song but sounds like a lot of other songs I’ve heard before, the weakest track so far in my opinion :blank:

7. The Postal Service – Such Great Heights This song also was on a commercial here, I like it :wacky:

8. Oh man this is Radiohead, high and dry right? Is this a cover or what? the voice is not so annoying :P.

9. A girl’s voice Sounds sweet :wacky: Is this Feist? I always wanted to get some of her music but I haven’t :P I like this, it fits with the rest of the mixtape

10. This is a lovely ending for a great mixtape. Sounds like part of a soundtrack, I don’t know why.

Overall, I really like this. My favorites: 9, 2, 4. Looks like a summer mixtape, a lovely one, too bad the weather here is so cold or I’d go outside to listen to the mixtape just enjoying the sun :P

Hi Lore! I made your mixtape, luckily you haven't heard my last mixtape, cause this one is almost identical (I'm sorry but I didn't had much time to make it...) But I'm glad you liked it!

I see your also a big Arcade Fire fan, so I had to replace "Deep Blue" for another song :P

Mixtape maker - I have enjoyed Photographing Raindrops the last few days so now I'm enjoying Photographing Cherry Blossom :D

Actually I'm probably ready to review part 1 but I guess I'll post my review when I've done both?

Lore had mentioned to me that she thought either I or someone with similar taste to mine made her tape. It looks like she's right. The National, Elbow...you even put Satie on yours. :awesome:

Hi mixtape maker... Sorry this took a while, I've had work, deadlines, revision and a flooded kitchen to contend with since I received it!

Track 1:

Placebo right? I went through a phase of not listening to anything but ‘Meds’ when my friend first leant me the album… But I never really went beyond that. I think this song is alright, it’s definitely an appropriate mixtape opener. But I don’t think it will make me go and listen to more.

Track 2:

I love this track! It kicks straight in with the guitars and the drums and what I think might be a tambourine… And it just keeps going that way. I love when songs kick off on this umph and just keep it going. Okay, so there is a little ‘bridge’ in which things mellow out a little which I’m not overly fussed on, but it works in the context of the song. It’s real indie rock at its best. I could listen to this all day.

Track 3:

Keane- You Haven’t Told Me Anything. Oh gosh, it’s been a while since I listened to the album… Or any Keane in fact. I think I may just have to go and dig them up and listen to them all over again.

Track 4:

Ohhh hello synths… With guitars? Oh man. I can literally feel myself loving this song without even listening to it too hard. I can see myself dancing and swaying along to this for years to come—because it is a total me track. I also love the vocals on this; like there’s definitely two guys singing together in verses and then in the choruses there’s points where only one person is singing and then what sounds like three. Gosh, this is so me.

Track 5:

Recognised this instantly. Goo Goo Dolls, and classic at that. Hate this Place (I think) from Dizzy up the Girl (I’m certain of the album at least). I really have a thing from the heavier guitars on this and the way it sounds a little grimy. Unfortunately, I think Goo’s have lost their spark with their most recent offering—which is a sad thing indeed.

Track 6:

Razorlight!! From when Razorlight was good too. I love this song, I love this entire album and it reminds me of summer and learning to surf (it’s the album my family played the year I learnt to surf in Newquay) so it’s definitely one of those songs. It’s guitary and yet very simple. And Jonny Borrell’s voice at this point is wicked. All this being said, I’m going to give their fourth album a shot anyway.

Track 7:

QotSA. I am obsessing over these guys so hard at the moment; just because Josh Homme is the ultimate definition of cool and mysterious. This specific song is a killer one because it’s got some real nifty guitar work and it’s not overly heavy or overpowering. Damnn.

Track 8:

At points I want to say this is Biffy Clyro, but then at other times I have no clue at all because it sounds a little Foo Fighters-ish. I like the way it packs an almighty punch straight off—but then it sort of tones itself down for a long time that I sort of want to fast forward through. But yeah, I stuck with it and I’m pleasantly surprised because it picks back up to this heavy guitar and drumline. I quite like it.

Track 9:

Red Hot Chili Peppers—This Velvet Glove. Oh gosh, it’s been a while since I listened to any RHCP pre-Stadium Acradium; and I still don’t have a lot of their back catalogue (I do have this song though! :awesome:) I like this song because it feels like such a major contrast. The verses are a little kicked back and the choruses are really not  Right, this has given me the kick up the backside to go and get the rest of the CD’s—thank you!

Track 10:

Another helping of electronically done synthed up musics. This song is like a complete 1980’s throwback too—not the modern take on the synth revolution, which I really like. It’s extremely catchy too, and it has chemicals and molecules which just made the geek in me squee. Definite thumbs up here.

Track 11:

Maroon 5, from Songs for Jane I believe. Not that I can put my name on the song right now.

Track 12:

Is this guy Scottish? He has a really cool intonation on his words—he sounds like a UK Julian Casablancas :laugh3: At first I thought it was a complete change of pace because it starts off very acoustic but then you get the drums and the other guitars. The guys voice is still getting me no matter what though, the lyrics seem to be a little bit like the drunk man in the corner of the bar rambling on to himself. I do enjoy that though.

Track 13:

This track sounds a little country and a little bluesy I guess. The verses to me drag on for eons and I’m not overly swayed by it. I have to say that beyond the 2 minute mark the song sort of becomes a bit more powerful… Something I could listen to, but I don’t think I would choose to.

Track 14:

I'm not sure if I quite like the singer's voice on this one because it is so low and deep that it just sort of rumbles in my headphones. However I really like the music behind it-- the guitars are superb and the piano is used sparingly and really in a clever way. So I could quite happily listen to the instrumental version of the track. Or I could do a trade off and listen to the guy just for the music.

Track 15:

I love the use of distortion on this track. It really makes the track its’ own and a song that could otherwise become repetitive and uninteresting really quickly. All the little added layers of sound also give this a real other worldly sort of sound which I’m also really loving. Want to check out more for sure!

Track 16:

This track doesn’t immediately grab me, but I really do like the guys voice… So I continued to listen. I’m really glad I did. This is a nice chill out track with a nice acoustic guitar going on. The definition of mellow.

Track 17:

I’m a little meh with this track. I’m pretty sure I’ve heard the voice before, though I can’t put my finger on it. But yeah, it’s just there. There’s no hook that gets me to listen again.

Track 18:

A nice closer of a track with another voice I recognise but I don’t know where from. This track is nice because it’s mainly guitar at the start and then you get the addition of strings and all sorts of other instruments during the chorus which I really like.

Overall I like the first half of the mixtape better than the second half. The second half definitely calms you down and chills you out—so I can see why you did it. It’s just I think it would take me a much longer time to get in to the artists presented here than the ones in the first half.

But that being said, a very good mixtape that I thoroughly enjoyed. :nice:

^ MAROON 5.

Hey, Natt, if you do decide to pull up Keane again, please start with "Hopes and Fears" and go forward. If you start with the more recent stuff, you might get disappointed.

^I have all their albums on my shelf, so I think I will take your recommendation. If I remember rightly, they went from some relaxing, alt to synth pop, no?

Just as a little update...

I'm waiting on 6 people to still send in mixtapes. I've got a few PM's letting me know that they're going to be a little late. So for those that are still waiting sit tight. I'll send out PM's to people that haven't sent theirs out yet later today.

Quite right. To me, it seems like they get weaker with each release. The "Night Train" EP just makes me sad.

They used to be so good. I haven't even tried to listen to their most recent stuff and I was a big fan, I even saw them live twice

I saw Keane live last June and they were BRILLIANT, but, yeah, I have to agree their new stuff is no way near as good as their old stuff. However I have read that their new album is supposed to be a lot like Under The Iron Sea!

It took me a while to where I could even tolerate it, really. :\ It's too bad. "Hopes and Fears" is so beautiful.

I sure hope you're right. I love that album.
