Do you steal music or buy music?

Featured Replies

Both! If it's a band that I absolutely love, I collect the physical albums so I will always purchase them. If it is a band that I really only know one or two songs from, I steal the songs until I hear more from them and decide whether I like them enough to purchase the album.

I also love NoiseTrade - you can download music for free but it is 100% legal.

I buy music. If I don't buy it then I stream it online. The only time i'd download is unless it it's songs that I cannot purchase or stream (like live songs)

Both.

I'm a firm believer in buying CDs but usually new releases are really expensive here. So I download them first and then buy the CD when the price of it goes down. Unless it's from my favourite band and I buy it the first day it's released. :P

I think there are only a handful of album songs on my iPod that aren't from CDs. It's either because I haven't bought them yet or I can't find them.

I illegally download all my music. IF I am in love with the album, I'll buy it. If not then I won't.

I don't have money to be spending on CDs and vinyls just because. They have to be pretty special for me to put forth a few dollars YANNO.

There's only so much a broke college student can do!

I download everything pretty much, then If I love it, I buy the album.

I wouldn't have any money if I bought all the songs I have.

There's simply too much music I want to hear to buy it. So I download and listen to it and if it pleases my ears, I buy it. If I love it, I probably buy the special edition stuffs and vinyl too.

I know that without downloading the music first I would listen to waaay less music and therefore miss out on a lot and therefore also buy less.

My 'stealing' helps them sell it.

you can't be for real

I am sorry :) just mainstream music is such s*** right now that i have to stay in my own little bubble of music!

Coldplay and Oasis are pretty mainstream though.

And it still wouldn't explain why then you wouldn't listen to not-mainstream music such as .... hm ... let's take Paavoharju.

wow i went to listen to paavoharju cause i forgot about them and apparently i deleted them from my music library

 How can you! (need it back?)

Well i used to be more open to music but ive just been surrounded by rap and country that everything that plays on the radio is usually pretty bad :/

I have yet to successfully create a Pandora station that doesn't make me listen to a Beatles song every 10 minutes. No disrespect to The Beatles who are cool and all, but I would create a Beatles station if I wanted to listen to them repeatedly.

Not that I use Pandora these days, anyway.

It's called YouTube. Look stuff up. Explore. Don't let mainstream radio define what you (don't) listen to.
