GAHHH! Gig tonight!

Featured Replies

So apparentally I have a gig tonight that I was just told about 6pm yesterday. It's nothing major, just a coffee house type of thing, but I have NO IDEA what to play!

I think I might have a drummer playing with me, but I'm not sure...I'm thinking about playing UATW, Oasis's Stand By Me, maybe foster the people's pumped up kicks or blue spotted tail by the fleet foxes. Possibly an acoustic version of Blur's Tender. In other words I have no clue!

So, my question is what should I play? Songs should work well with or without drums, and I'll be on acoustic guitar. Any suggestions?

Wonderwall, U2's One, Green Day's Boulvevard of Broken Dreams, Blackbird, The Verve's Sonnet or Lucky Man...Good luck to you :D

I actually just did The Scientist last night at my school's talent show; chills and the adrenalin kicked in, it was awesome. I'd say do a crowed pleaser you know out of the songs and good luck :D

An original song.

I concur. As a musician, I like playing my own stuff much more than a cover of something.

It went really well! Turns out I was performing with another vocalist and had to do songs we both knew (we only had like 3 hours to get the whole thing together.) I had a lot of songs lined up, but in the end there was a confusion on the bill and our time was cut. We ended up doing a Beatles medley of I've Just Seen A Face, All Together Now, and Hide Your Love Away then led into stand by me by Ben E. King. I finished it off alone with a few bars of the Fleet Foxes Blue Spotted Tail. People seemed to really like it. Shame we didn't have more time. Thank you all for your suggestions, I think I'm gonna play some of them next time! Shame I couldn't fit them in this time around. My biggest problem with performing is choosing what to play!

The scientist and dont look back in anger!

I actually played these last time I did one of these! They work very well on acoustic!

I agree, this is always a good idea. I couldn't get one together, but the crowd usually won't know your song and you can't mess it up if it's your own song. They have nothing to compare it to either. They'll think anything you play is how it's supposed to be!

That'd be cool! It was no where big, some place down in Northern VA. Unfortunatlly I don't know the name of the place (hadn't been there before). It was like a Rec Center or something, but people were eating while we played. Nice audience though, they quited down when we came on.
