Transcripted from the tiny text there:

"Coldplay star Chris Martin has fought a secret 10-year battle with the crippling ear condition, tinnitus. Chris, 35, was told the agonising (?) ringing in his ears could end his pop career. The singer, who now wears earplugs on stage, said "I wish I'd thought about it earlier"."

If this is true, I feel very sorry for him :(

It's very annoying, like a high-pitched electronic tone that's constantly there.

Yeah, I think most of the people know what tinnitus is. IT SUCKS BALLS to be precisely

It could possibly be true, but I'm skeptical of it due to the media's knack for blowing things Chris says out of proportion

It's the Daily Mirror after all :dozey:

Why shouldn't it be true?

It's caused by constant exposure to loud noise. That's how I got it.

He's had loud music blasting his ears for about 15 years.

A lot of professional musicians have at least some degree of tinnutus. That said, it's less common among performers who use modern in ear monitors, which Chris (and the rest of the band) have done from the start of their career. I call BS on this one based on the fact that there are Parachutes era photos where Chris can clearly be seen with proper ear monitors which offer a good amount of protection. Some tinnutus, yes. Crippling Tinnutus, probably not.

Daily Mirror it's the same kind of newpaper that The Sun Magazine.

I will not believe anything until this is not Chris himself who says it.

or they want a summary of conditions of exposure of tinnitus.

Poor Chris if that's true. Tinnitus must suck, especially for a musician. Hope it's not true :(

That's why I said 'it's possible'. The problem is with a lot of these online articles declaring things that celebrities supposedly said, they offer little to no proof of what they are trying to say. As fakfak has said, it's probably a case of he has got it to some degree, but it might not be as bad as they say. Articles like this almost always exaggerate their headlines to get readers, so I've just become very skeptical of them :P

Oh my god...What the hell this must be a joke.. If this is a joke ..is not funny at all..poor baby Chris!!!

It's probably from having to listen to Gwyneth all those years.

KIDDING.

I actually remember an interview with Chris who mentions he has had a problem with his left ear for a long time. I'm racking my brains to remember where I heard it. It may have been an Australian interview and I think he was talking about surfing.

:laugh3::laugh3: surfing.

I dont know. Could be true.. But i hope it isnt.. Chris... :(:cry:

But seeing how it's The Sun, i'm don't think it's true..

Exactly, he almost certainly has it to some degree, so do they rest of the band, and their crew for that matter. It's an extremely common condition among musicians. I just doubt it's going to cost him his career. That line smacks of tabloid sensationalism.

I can vaguely remember reading about Chris insisting that little kids without earplugs be moved to the back of the venue during a Coldplay concert.

That's just common sense IMHO. I always wear ear protection when going to gigs, and I haven't been a kid since longer than I care to think about.

I'm fine without earplugs but I'm old as well:). I was very close to the stage at my last Coldplay gig and Guy's bass seemed to be playing down my throat.

It's a habit I picked up working for a concert promotor several years ago. When you're attending 2-4 gigs a week and standing quite near the speakers, you learn to be aware of such things.

^Agree! He probably has minor tinnitus which most musicians have. But not anything like the article said.

This is weird.. I have been watching Glastonbury 2000 for the last few days - and I could swear he has something NOT an ear monitor in his left ear during this performance. Now I am not an expert, but it looks more like an earplug?? There are no wires or anything coming from this?

I was wondering why and what this was. Do you suppose it's to do with this? I DO hope he doesn't have this as badly as the paper suggests.. :(

Tabloids though.. I hope they are wrong.. :dozey:

Caroline.. ! LOL :laugh3:
