How often do you make a back-up?

Featured Replies

Imagine this:

You go to turn your computer on and nothing happens, the hard drive has given up the ghost, pictures, documents, videos, music, all lost.

Something silly happens and you get attacked by the Cryptolocker virus which encrypts your computer files and demands money to be released?

So how often do you backup your computer?

Whenver Row's computer crashes.

Whenever the bloody computer does it by itself without asking :|

Thrice a year. And I've got an external hard drive on which I save the most important things.

Same here

How do you back up? How long does it take?

Depends on how much you've installed on your backup. If it's just a few basic programs/drivers it takes maybe 5-10 minutes.

Never, I like to live dangerously.

DAMN! I came here just to say that... -.-'....

I have an external HD though :)

my laptop is starting to die on me but i'm just too lazy so i'm going to be doomed pretty soon and it's all my lazy ass fault

I lost ALL my stuff two weeks ago when my hard drive on my laptop died. Fortunately I am married to a geek and he managed to get all my stuff off the fried hard drive. My laptop still needed a new hard drive. But I can now re-install it all, thanks to him. I have hundreds of photos and lots of downloaded videos.. it would have been tragic.

I have an external hard drive that I back up infrequently on. Two days before my hard drive died, In a fit of brilliance I wiped the external drive, ready to back up again.. :embarrassed:

you guys make me wanna back-up my cpu now :p guess i'll do it tomorrow :)

what's the easiest way to back up like 250GB of data

Started doing it more after to harddrive crashes the last couple of years. Bought an external haddrive.

I haven't done a backup for the laptop yet but I have to set up some proper maintenance for it once classes are over this week.

Um, once a year, consindering my hard drive failed last year. I haven't done another backup since but I've been thinking about it....

Normally 7/8 hours to do a complete back-up (just shy of 500GB of data), I normally allow it to copy and paste overnight or over the day if I'm out/computer is available.

I backed a ton of files using the amazon cloud and it won't let me download all them at once. I have to individually select each one...for thousands.

That's the problem of uploading to the cloud, is being able to get the files back again.

Is that a common problem?

It is, as you will need to keep paying for the service if it's not free, or you are banking on the company not going bankrupted or being raided by the FBI.
