November 15, 201411 yr He'll everyone. I made this thread to answer anyone's question about anything Coldplay. Tabs, tours, equipment, anything.
November 16, 201411 yr What kind of delay was Jonny using in the Ghost Stories era? I believe it's a Boss but I'm not too sure which model it is.
November 16, 201411 yr Author Jonny still uses his Line 6 Delay, actually. But I also think he still uses his Boss DD4.
November 16, 201411 yr Author Also if you have any more questions about the GS Era, I'd be happy to answer your questions.
November 16, 201411 yr Do you happen to know which pedals Guy uses, im pretty sure he uses something during Square One
November 16, 201411 yr Author Yes, I think you are referring to his Tone Bender Distortion pedal. Feel free to ask more questions.
November 17, 201411 yr Sweet, thanks! Possibly a bit of 'noob' question, but on Jonny's board there's a large black portion with lots of silver buttons - what actually is that? What does it do?
November 17, 201411 yr Sweet, thanks! Possibly a bit of 'noob' question, but on Jonny's board there's a large black portion with lots of silver buttons - what actually is that? What does it do? i think its a sort of midi control for other effects
November 17, 201411 yr Author Yeah, jonny and the cake is right. Instead of stepping in the pedals he has his signal chain organized and. The he presses on those buttons. The buttons control the pedals via MIDI.
November 17, 201411 yr Author I believed of unless you want to use a capo. But to check if it is make d chord in the 5 to 8 fret range and use your thumb and leave the 1st string (e not E) open for sure.
November 18, 201411 yr A D chord with an e note....sounds like a Dadd9 to me man. haha. i'm joking. yeah that tuning works i was playing around with it today. there are about 34 different ways to play The D and E chords with the A passing chord between with this tuning. I've also just used a standard tuning and let the b and e string ring open and use barre chord formations at the 10th and 12 frets on the sixth string. Magic as a song is very flexible for ways to play it, it turns out. The sound of the B tuned down to A and left to ring open sounds good and there are also options for fretting the second string to make the passing chord sound as it should. It's not a simple Amaj, it's more of Asus2 or an Esus4 depending on what you wanna call it.
November 18, 201411 yr Author Oh yes... I'm feel dumb you are right. But I'm glad you figured out with our knowledge. Ask me any questions you have people.
November 18, 201411 yr Author I can tell the world what gear was used on the GS tour if they don't already know.?
November 20, 201411 yr What kind of delay was Jonny using in the Ghost Stories era? I believe it's a Boss but I'm not too sure which model it is. Jonny still uses his Line 6 Delay, actually. But I also think he still uses his Boss DD4. Actually, the majority of Jonny's delays come from either his TC 2290 or Line6 Echo Pro in his rack, just as most of his reverbs come from the Eventide unit in the rack. His board has a loop controller (the stepped thing with switches) that switches in loops that contain the pedals (1 pedal per loop). Each piece of rack gear is in it's own loop too. I spoke to Mike Hill who build Jonny's board a few years back when I was building my own board (I play guitar in a CP tribute). Here's a pic of my board.
November 20, 201411 yr Author This is strange but I have a question for Deano. Does Mike Hill make the same MIDI pedalboards for everyone artist?
November 26, 201411 yr This is strange but I have a question for Deano. Does Mike Hill make the same MIDI pedalboards for everyone artist? Mike builds boards for a number of top artists. They are all different as each artist's requirements are different. It looks like he uses some of the same things on a number of boards. but they're certainly not all the same as Jonnys. I don't think it's a midi switcher either. I'm pretty sure that it's just a loop switcher. Literally 1 button switches on one pedal.
November 26, 201411 yr I know this might be a harder question but the Oracle and Matt aren't answering me this week. Do you know what pedals/distortion/overdrive was used for Shiver?
November 26, 201411 yr Author Haha yes I can this for you though. Jonny uses his Pro Co RAT Distortion. He might also use his Fulltone OCD but I'm pretty sure it is his RAT.
November 27, 201411 yr Ahhh yes back in the day when he used the rat for almost everything, of course! Thanks :)
November 27, 201411 yr It's almost certainly the Rat, he used that and an MXR Micro Amp for most things in the early days. The Fulltone OCD was on his board for the Viva Era but MX onwards he has used a RAT, Ibanez TS9 and 2 HBE Powerscreamers.
December 10, 201411 yr How do the backing tracks work? How are they started and how are they always in time with the playing (e.g. Chris starts The Scientist on the piano but later on strings are played too; or Paradise)?
